Wakes u[ and looks at the clock ... 01.30am it says Your clock is off a bit John, mine says 5:15am Monday morning and I am WINNING!! I was watering my tomatoes on Saturday and a yellow jacket bee, just about an inch or so long, was drinking the water as I was watering the plants. He decided he didn't like me anymore and got me twice!! Once in the arm near the right elbow, didn't ever hurt but the second time was in the right eyebrow and man it STILL hurts!! My oldest son was home by chance and he checked and there is no stinger, so just a hole in my eyebrow. I put ice on it and took a Tylenol but it took the 3rd Tylenol, with 3 hours in between each one, before I noticed any relief! Then it was sort of okay, with me putting ice on it, letting it warm back up, starting to hurt, me putting ice on it, etc etc until I took another Tylenol and went to bed Saturday night. Sunday morning I woke up and my eye was swollen!!!!! I immediately put some ice on it and the swelling went right down, all day yesterday I put ice on it, let it warm up, ice on, etc etc with varying regularity. This morning I woke up and it is only very slightly swollen, in fact I might be the only one to notice it, but it is still sightly sensitive to the touch. I am amazed how a little tiny bee can give that much pain and suffering when he didn't even leave his stinger in me! He just essentially poked 2 holes in me and flew away. I did hit him a few times as he was attacking me and swatted him down to the deck, I heard his little body make a sound when he hit. But he kept coming back, there is NO nest in the tomatoes, he was just after the water, which I was giving him when he attacked! Yellow Jackets nest in the ground around here and we were 10 feet or more off the ground. Today I have a dentist appointment, about a month ago I cracked a tooth and have been able to chew only on the left side of my mouth. I went in to see her, on the wrong day it turns out, and saw someone else who said I will need a Crown. I do not dislike Dentists, and mine is a good one, but I have gotten a Crown before and they are not alot of fun until they are completed. BUT I am STILL WINNING!!

It's okay they are used to it, alot of people are not happy with the first offer and go back for more, just be ready with some pictures of the car showing its condition and they should adjust it for you. Lunch time. Sounds like way to much work for me, I bought one of these a few years ago and use it around the house when I need to: http://chinagrabber.com/cheap-for-110v-ac-to-12v-dc-car-power-charger-adapter-plug---110v-12v-car-adapter.aspx It rained a little last night but nothing special, it looked really dark there for awhile but most of it just went around me. 8-(( My rain barrel could have used a refill, it is not empty but I don't like to have to fill it from the hose. More rain might be coming today but then the weekend is supposed to be nice with no rain until next week! Some of my hot peppers are getting very red now, that means it is time to pick them and send them around to all the neighbors! My second bush, the one the birds picked all the little flowers off of is finally producing its second round of flowers. I have been chasing the birds away and it should produce some peppers soon. My tomatoes are doing fine, the sun killed the tops of the plants off, way too much sun is bad and mine got days and days and days of 100+F heat and they just burnt up, but they are now coming back from the bottom up and I am still picking tomatoes every day. As for me, my eye feels better with no pain to speak of for a couple of days now but my tooth STILL hurts. I think the Dentist got the front and back of the temporary piece too wide and it is trying to spread my teeth out, making it hurt. It has been 4 days and it should NOT still be hurting!! I am going to call today and get some advice, my next appointment isn't until 7 Sept!! JohnC my RAC has finally started to nudge up some more, I am now at 356,973 after being stuck in the 353,750 range for more than a week! I changed some of my pc's away from Malaria and over to PrimeGrid and I think that is what did it. I am still WINNING though!

Sounds like way to much work for me, I bought one of these a few years ago and use it around the house when I need to: http://chinagrabber.com/cheap-for-110v-ac-to-12v-dc-car-power-charger-adapter-plug---110v-12v-car-adapter.aspx Same type of thing, only how much current can yours provide. The one recommended for the fridge puts out 5A, although the fridge says it only uses 3.3A or 40W at 12VDC. Even the small computer supply can handle that no problem. It is somewhere 200-250W type, standard supplies as with most computers. It is a spare from one of the upgrades to a larger supply. My rig was cheaper than buying the 18 buck one, also it reuses old equipment and I like that. It too will have a second use in the future. There are some other devices round that area on the sales desk, a calculator, credit card machine and maybe my shipping scale. These all use a separate power pack. When I order some plugs to convert the other power supplies we use, I will have plugs to do these types of things to. I can run all three of those plus the fridge off the one old computer supply, thus reducing power packs plugged in from 4 to only the one power supply. I have to plan out what parts I need to complete the whole project. I started one day but it got busy. I did take a list of the part numbers I bought for home, so at least I've already done the research for parts and no where to get them. The only negative is the computer supply with wires hanging out does not look as "pretty" as a power pack, but it is hidden under a counter so it makes not much difference. Also too I have not destroyed it, so it could be removed and used to run a computer. Same for the power packs, they can be plugged back in and run the equipment if needed or equipment needs to be moved. All in all the whole experiment is kind of fun and reminds me of my younger, more creative days. If you're more interested in the molex plugs and power supply conenctions, I found a very good source was the wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molex_connector It told me all I needed to know about the plugs and how to jumper the green wire so the supply stays on without being plugged into a computer. --- Picked two more orange bell peppers this morning, these will be a gift to one of the store owners near ours, she saves boxes for me sometimes when i need extras. I've been giving her some fresh peppers and tomatoes as a thank you. I've got more orange ones for myself to use this weekend. I'm getting lots of orange ones, a few red. Haven't seen any yellow this season. I suspect I get more orange from having the orange sun gold tomatoes planted one pot away. Prior to that i got few colors other than red. The yellow may have come from the yellow pear tomatoes, but even those became orange this year. --- Oh well off to work and another day of .... ...WINNING !

OK as requested. Oh it has worked just fine on other machines, I think there must be something in the machine it just didn't like, some component that was incompatible or something. I do not upgrade anymore, although I do have a version of Win7 32bit that my son gave me because he did not want to upgrade his laptop that I MAY try to upgrade my main pc with. I have not decided yet, it is still running Win XP Pro 32 bit and is doing just fine. New 500gb hard drives are down to the $50.00 range, so I may just but one and do a fresh install. JohnC my RAC is movin on up to 358,433, so it is finally on the move again! I am still looking for an unused machine of mine that has AGP on the MB, if I find one I can bring up another card, albeit an older, slower one. What I am trying to do is find the best of the bunch and keep them running, while saving the others for cooler weather. WINNING!!

My youngest daughter and crew are planning a pool/drinking party tonight for friends (granddaughter is NOT invited). Car keys will be locked up until driver is shown to be unimpaired or is a designated driver. Love the idea Randy, wish more parents would do it that way, lock up the keys I mean. They make a really inexpensive portable breathalayzer, here are some examples, http://www.portablebreathalyzer.net/ I am sure the kids will find warm things to do and have lots of fun doing it. I am also glad your daughter agreed to the conditions, it shows maturity on her part. JohnC my RAC is now up to 362,005, so climbing steadily right now. Right now it is in the low 60's outside and it is 6am my time. It is supposed to get up to about 90 today and then warmer as the week goes on, topping out in the mid to upper 90's with some storms by the end of the week. Speaking of '2-fers' my tooth STILL hurts and I am mad my dentist did not call me back on Friday, I WILL be calling the office this morning and trying to get in this week. She is quite busy and it can take months to get a regular appt but I go on vacation next week and shouldn't be having to take a Tylenol every 4 to 5 hours for the next 3 weeks!! I also have to mow today, uggghhhh! It is already 73F with 75% humidity and the temp is supposed to hit near 90 today! And Keith you were winning but now I am WINNING!!

And Keith you were winning but now I am WINNING!! I'm think I'm WINNING. It hit 99.9F here today, again, no rain still. I was thinking since April 1st i've probabbly captured less than 33 gallons total this year, 1 barrel full. Last year I had 3 barrels full, and every time I emptied one which took about 5 days and started on the next, it would rain again so I always had three full barrels. I would say I was capturing 33 gallons a week at least with plenty of excess. I finally watched all of my classic Doctor Who, well at least the ones I have on DVD. I started April 1st with story #1 and finished story # 159 this morning. This time around I was watching all the extras and then going back and watching the program again wit hthe commentary. I actually have a bunch on beta tapes in the garage, and it appears 6 of them are ones not available on DVD yet. I may have to dig those up and see if I can still play them. With that note, I'm WINNING again.

Also JohnC my RAC today is at 355,352, so actually down a couple K. 8-(( The weather here is supposed to be in the UPPER 90's both today and tomorrow! They are talking near record heat for both days then right now they are saying some rain might move in for the rest of the week. My rain barrel has been kept just full enough to not force me to use the hose to fill it back up yet, I really hope that continues! And Keith I never was a Dr Who fan, he probably would have been fun to watch but I just never started and by the time I thought about watching him I was waaay too far behind. Did I tell you I was WINNING? Well I am!! ![]()

pc I went to see the dentist today and she did a root canal on my tooth. Oh fun! I had my own encounter with some Novocaine today. About a year or so ago I had a growth removed from my upper left jaw just above the gum line. It apparently didn't heal properly since there was a little flap of tissue that would develop a blister and then pop. I went in today and they jabbed me with the Novocaine, then took it out. They also painted it with the worst tasting stuff I've had in a long time. Yuck! Supposed to keep it from getting infected though.

pc I went to see the dentist today and she did a root canal on my tooth. I HATE Novocaine!!!! They me in the right rear of my mouth, waited about 20 minutes and stuck some clamp thing on my tooth. I said O-U-C-H and they took it off and jabbed me again with more Novocaine! After another 20 minutes they stuck the clamp thing on my tooth and I said O-U-C-H again! They said I HOPE you are kidding, I wasn't. They continued on and after alot of filing with some teeny, tiny little files and then taking some x-rays, she filled the tooth back up and said I was done. THEN the Novocaine started to kick in!! All this happened starting around 2:30 or so and it wasn't until after 8pm that I was feeling un-numb enough to eat without chewing my cheek! This has been a long standing problem with me, I normally make them work on me with no shots, they just don't take effect until after they are all done anyway, so what's the point?!! But this dentist, I really like her, won't do Root Canals or Crowns without giving patients a shot, or two, first. I put my foot down on fillings though, I told I would find someone else if she insisted on giving me a shot for those. I do not think it is her technique, I think it is just me and the way my nerves work or are routed. She did put a stick in my mouth, right where she was going to inject me before she gave me the first shot though, it tasted REALLY bad, I wonder if it was the same stuff. WINNING while sitting in front of the air conditioner!!

Whoo, we had a nasty thunderstorm blow thru just before the end of work. Hard rain and lots of lightning. I got nervous and turned all the work computers off, even though the backup supplies ahd not even beeped any yet. We had what looked like some nearby strikes. I left them off because another storm is on the way. Storm only lasted 30-40 minutes. It's pretty serious when I turn the computers off.

Remind me to look for a woman dentist with little dainty hands. Sure makes the going easier! I had a Doctor in the Navy tell me that many years ago, I think he could have been a guard in the NFL. I was getting ready to get discharged and was tired of my knees hurting from Osgood Slaterus Disease, calcium deposits, and went to him to get them shaved off. He showed me his hands and said I can do that but the scar will go from mid calf to mid thigh, I said no thanks and still have them. And yes the knees still hurt! I did not turn the pc's off but we had some serious storms come thru today too! I did not get any rain this morning but DC got some serious rain and wind and traffic is a mess. This afternoon is when I got my rain and we got wind too, alot of it! My rain gauge shows we got almost an inch of rain in less than an hour and my rain barrel is full. WooHoo! WINNING!!

There have been games that have lasted less than 50 posts, not here on Malaria though, and some games that have lasted over 3,000 posts, again not here at Malaria. The length of the game and or a trigger point has always been left up to the individual game organizer, I ran one for 159 posts one time because that was my number when I was a firefighter. It is raining again, I JUST checked the rain gauge and it is up to 2 inches right now, and that is just since yesterday morning. It is supposed to rain most of the day today I think, but I think it will be more spotty than that according to the radar on the tv. Yesterday morning a darned chipmunk was on my deck eating some tomatoes! I got my air gun out and popped him a few times and he just jumped and went back to munching!! I ran out on the deck making alot of noise and he ran down the steps to the ground level and then just stood next to his burrow entrance, where I popped him a few times, again making him jump. All he did was jump and not like being hit with the plastic pellet, so I decided I was going to go out and buy me a cheapy Walmart CO2 pellet pistol. I mentioned this to a guy I take to lunch every week and he says 'I got one you can have'! I went into his home, I have been there MANY times in the past helping him with his pc's etc, and he reaches into a drawer and pulls out this Crossman CO2 pistol along with 14, 14 CO2 cartridges, 2 things of metal bb's and hands them to me and says 'here you go'. I came home put on some safety glasses and tested it out, it is noisier than I thought it would be but is pretty accurate, the rear site is missing and instead just has a screw in its place, and has quite a pop to it. It also will shoot quite a ways, compared to my battery powered plastic pellet shooting one. I think the squirrels and chipmunks are in for a rude awakening when the weather clears, and I might even have to find me a fiberglass handled shove to leave outside in the weather so that when I hit them they aren't left laying around the yard. I am definitely WINNING now!!!

True Krunchin, but then you are ... As are you right now John, sorry about that but it is my turn to be WINNING! Dune I posted on the boards. Keith do you install all MS updates as soon as they come out? I went around and updated all of my pc's the other day, but usually wait a few days to make sure the updates aren't in fact downgrades, as MS HAS done in the past, before I do them. And yes that is how a couple of mine were not crunching for a day or two. I do NOT upgrade at the same time they crunch, too much potential in my mind for 'issues' to develop. And I forgot to reboot one one day and one the next day while updating them, my RAC is STILL recovering!!

I update when I have time to reboot. On most of my systems I reboot one day a week. Some of the remoter systems maybe once a month. I've never had any problems installing the patches to patched patches while running boinc. The updates don't usually take effect until after you reboot. My home systems have been beeping at me a few days now so they will get updated today or tomorrow. I have problems with most of my XP systems, if I don't reboot at least once a week, the work computers i use a lot i reboot every morning. The problem is after some time, the screen will get a patch of some window in the wrong place, then when you open new windows they don't fully fill in and sometimes even the border is missing in spots makeing the new window useless. It can be any program or even windows folders that will do it. It seems to me the more times you open and close any windows the sooner it happens, then count might be something like 250 but I don't really know. There are four or five programs I didn't install on the twins here, because I though it might be one of those, but they still developed the same problem, and it happens at work and at home, some of those being common programs to both locations, so I think it is in windows. It seems to me long ago I never had this problem, it was like after ie6 or 7 came out maybe, whichever one was a big update requiring uninstall of the previous version I think. Because ie is also part or windows explorer or the other way around I now figure that it is where the problem is, internal to windows and not some add on software. --- Checking my plants this morning I found Alamanda now has 9 seed pods growing. Wow, I've never seen so many. I hope out of those I can get some babies to grow. No rain scheduled for at least another 3 days. Today is clear, mild hot, humid and good windage.

You might try updating the video drivers for those systems. I once had similar problems on a Linux system and a driver update cured it. Obviously, Linux is not Windows, but the idea is the same.

No its not video drivers. They have been updated many times since this problem began, and it happens on several systems with differnet video boards. I haven't had time to fully investigate this problem, but at least a reboot cures it and more frequent reboots keeps it from reoccuring for a while. Not the biggest problem on my todo list. I did solve another problem today, rather cleverly I must say. This is not the korrect way, but it works and i'm happy. I have an internal kard reader that came in the komputer. My usb hub also has a kard reader. Ya know you end up with 4 drives in my komputer, well for me it is 8. I guess i could unplug the internal but i figured it might come in handy for some kopy fuctions someday. On my now dormant Sony komputer, I could rename these drives, and after roboot they would stay renamed. Well on these Gateway komputers there is something that resets the names to a default on every boot and i kan't figure out what it is. Ya see I want the CompactFlash drives nameed as "KompactFlash External" and "KompactFlash Internal". The SD drives as SD/MMC and not MMC/SD and so on. My solution was rather unique, I found in the registry the keys where these names are stored. But just changing them and rebooting they get set back to this default, but only on the 4 internal drives that came with the komputer. My solution was to rename them and save those registry keys to a file, then add to the startup folder a command to load the registry keys on every bootup, which the command in the startup folder come last, so they execute after the system has already done is reset to default. Problem solved and I get the names I want. Plus too I was able to assign icons to the external drives, using the same ones as the internals so they all like like little media cards and not a box like the default was. "I don't take no [bleep] from machines" I'm WINNING. Now to go see the Doctor.

Okay they moved things around so I had to go looking for it but I found what I was looking for: In Win7 and probably Vista too go to Control Panel, System and Security and then Administrative Tools. Once there click on Computer Management, once there click on Storage and Disk Management. This will show all the drives on your pc and you can right click and change their drive letters, names, paths whatever you like AND it should stay thru a reboot! In XP go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Storage and then Disk Management, then do the right click as above. It is a pain to get to and no they don't make it easy at all! Keith if you go to the local plant nursery they should be able to give you some tips on keeping those babies alive. Since the one grows so well I'll bet it is something simple but required that is preventing the babies from maturing. Maybe you just have to go 'mom school' to learn to be a better mom. Like when people grow cacti they often forget it grows well in low water situations and they need to dry out between waterings. It is Sunday and my neighbors grandkid is getting Baptized today, along with his mom, and they are having a brunch afterwards. The Church is so small that only family is going to the actual event so the neighbors are going to the brunch held at their home afterwards. It should be fun, then hopefully we can get out of there and let the family enjoy their visit. Their son, the babies dad, grew up and went to school with my son. The kid is still in college and is unmarried and has a 6 month old kid! Life just got really tough!! CONGRATULATIONS to Team TFFE on making it to 1,000,000,000! As for me I am WINNING too!! ____________ ![]()

...[SNIP]...Okay they moved things around so I had to go looking for it but I found what I was looking for: I know about that. I make shortcuts to these functions and put them in a separate folder in my documents kalled 'my shortcuts' and then a link as a toolbar in the windows bar to my shortcuts. Makes finding them much easier than six klicks thourgh windows' start bar. I have a direct shortcut to drive management. No that is not it. These are removable drives. I can change the drive letter as with your suggestion and had already done that. That change remains after reboot. What i'm talking about is the name of the removable drive when no media kard is inserted, this is what appears in the 'my copmuter' or 'portable media devices' windows. When you insert a mdeia kard, the name will change to the name stored on the card, but when removed it reverts to a default. I wanted them named so I could more easily identify which was which and have them separated into groups by name. Also too you can only enter about 10-12 characters for a name if you try to rename the device in windows by right click and selecting rename. In the registry you can enter longer names. Default names on the internal media slots. CompactFlashI/II MMC/SD MS/MS Pro SmartMedia I think the external slots had no names, just drive letters. I reassigned the drive letters to match as best I could the name, with the internals one letter after the externals, except Z which is a backwards S Here are my names B: Boinc USB V: DVD-RAM Drive W: DVD-RW Drive E: External HDD 465GB C: Internal HDD 228GB WDC O: Internal HDD 931GB Seagate 72 P: Internal HDD 931GB Seagate 59 K: KompactFlash External L: KompactFlash Internal M: MS/MS Pro External N: MS/MS Prto Internal R: Recovery S: SD/MMC External Z: SD/MMC Internal X: xd/SM External Y: xd/SM Internal I named the Smart Media as xD/SM because that is the way it was on my Somy for xd picture disc and smart media, i don't even have any of those media kards but i have some of the others KF,MS,SD types. In my computer, when viewed in groups sorted by name the lsit becomes more klear. The only other entires are Control Panel, Owners Documents (aka my documents) and Shared Documents. The list is easier to kwickly find a particular drive, at least to me.
The one growing was nursey bought, i didn't grow it from a seed, that is why it survives as it was already an adult. I only have 4 store bought plants. The Alamada, two Oleanders and an Amaryllis. I also had an Easter Lilly but that has passed away, but I still have an offshoot from her. Everything else is from cuttings or seeds off other plants or out of vegetables. The aloes wern't even store bought, they were given to us from someone and they were from someones elses plants, not store bought. The snake plant was part of a plant my dad had given to him and we broke some of it off and i brought it up from florida. All of the vegetables i grew from seeds or cuttings, i never bought pre-started plants on any of them. Heres my garden: Indoors now: Aloe, Chives, Avacodo Outdoors now: Oleander, Alamanda, Amaryllis, Easter Lilly, Snake Plant, Sweet Basil, Sweet Potato, White Potato, Pineapple, mini Sun-Gold Tomato, mini Pear Tomato, Musclin-Mix Lettuce, Bell Pepper, Red-Hot Pepper, Clover and some kind of flower. Most of those there are more than one plant. In the past I also had mini Grape Tomato, mini Red Hybrid Tomato, Elephant Ears, Air Plant and various herbs in the Aero-garden. Yeah, i'm sure its my fault. I plant a lot of things and some survive. At one time I had two Aloe plants left me by my former housemate. One was to be mine and after she got settled iin her new twon, I was to give one back. So after she left, ka'boom they started multiplying. Eventually I gave on of the originals back to her, but the ones I was left with kept multiplying up until there were more than 300. Then A lot started dying, i'm down to less than a 100 still going mostly down hill, but I see some new shoots on some this year, so maybe it's time for the cycle to reverse again. Amazinly the original is still alive, although it is very small. It's also a combiantion of water-light and air. Somethings do good outside and then suffer when i bring them in for the winter. Then i've got other things that do well inside during the winter, but suffer inside in the summer. Same with my Snake plant. I had three pots full. One was over 6 feet tall. Then poof, they're almost all gone. I do sometimes have luck cutting off leaves and just sticking them in new soil. I did this with three, two died and then suddenly the third is still going and two new plants grew next to it, so maybe too that is on a regeneration path. Oh, Alamada now has 11 seed pods going. My Oleanders have seed pods starting too, even some of the ones I put in the ground which were some babies I grew from seeds and one of those is a pink one. Strange how i got two different colors of pink from starting with two white trees. Some of the babies came out with lite pinkish flowers and a couple ahve a deep full pink going toward crimson color. I did not plant many seeds this year, but i've got two babies left. It will be funny if next year I get orange Oleander and Pink Bell Peppers. I think its time to go look for some more Sweet potatoes. Some of the pots are bulging or have dirt hills in them. One vine I think is over 25 feet long and getting about as fat as my pinky finger. I'm not even sure i'll be able to untangle these things as they wrap in and out around the railing and through various pots. I didn't keep good control on some things this year.
Ditto. Does team USA have kompetition now? We'll have to work harder to regain our position, as I fell soon TFFE is going to pass us. The race is on to 2B. As for me I am WINNING now, at least at this game.

Mikey Sort of, I have like 10 altogether that can crunch, but only had 8 of them on line, recently I saw some numbers that showed me maybe I didn't have the best 8 crunching, so I put an old one back online. So far the numbers I saw appear to have been right and I did not have the best 8 running. I put an Nvidia GeForce 9600 GSO online recently and yesterday got 14,972 credits from it. That is more than the Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT card that got 14,799 yesterday! But the GT sometimes only gets 5k or 6k per day, while the GSO has consistently gotten near 15k per day. Both cards have 512 meg of ram and the GT is in a quad core while the GSO is in a dual core machine. Both pc's are using all of their cpu's at PrimeGrid, while both gpu's are at Collatz and both pc's are running 64bit Win7. As of this morning my total Boinc RAC is 362,493 and still climbing! Keith you have a very extensive custom computer configuration going on, I hope you write all that down so you can reproduce it! I would never even remember all that, and I do have problems sometimes remembering which drive is which! RandyC Oh what fun, all those coffee tables etc that have edges are about to become both good and bad things, both at the same time! Good things because she will learn to hold on to them as she toddles around, bad things as she loses her balance and her head heads right for them! Just remember how your kids did, kids are remarkably durable and resilient! And soon they will learn to have balance and the agility of an NFL running back, making them impossible to catch! My youngest was playing soccer and the coach and he were playing a game on one one one keep away. They stand in one spot facing each other and each tries to take the ball away from the other. After only just a few seconds my son got the ball and the coach could NOT get it back. My sons legs were shorter and when he picked them up he could put them down quicker so he had much more agility and quickness, not more skill, just quicker feet. JohnC I had a power supply die yesterday on one of my pc's with a video card crunching away in it! My RAC went down overnight to 357,540 and I don't know if I will be able to fix it before I come back off of vacation next week! Mikey, Sorry to hear about the power supply. This is one advantage I have with krated komputers, that is parts replacement. No cover to open and no screws to remove. I can swap parts in a lot less time. It turns out the fan was just stuck and it is a 'Cooler Master' brand power supply, that means swappable fans! I however have a can of CRC that I used and it is now working just fine. CRC is for electrical stuff making it very similar to WD-40 but specifically for electrical stuff. I am up and crunching again, WOO HOO!! We got some rain yesterday evening. Very little but I captured 2 gallons which ain't much. Yeah I too do not like this time of year, my allergies are bad as usual. It rained all day yesterday but this morning I had to mow and it is not raining today, but might tonight. It is supposed to bright and sunny tomorrow, the day I leave of course! Then I will be down past you Keith in Oak Island. I'm catching up to the new season, but will have to wait for it on DVD to watch. As for now i'm almost to the end of the third season. I can go through about 1 season a week. I still have a large pile of DVDs to watch and catalog. Somehow I didn't think it was going to take me 4-5 months to watch all the classic who. There are 26 seasons of it, with about 70% of it available on DVD, 5 more DVDs to be released later this year. There are about 36 available on VHS as used, but some of those are pricy. Some episodes can never be seen again because they no longer have any films or tapes to make them from, a lot were destroyed before the invent of home viewing. Even some of the DVDs I have have parts of the lost episodes as special features with only 1 to 5 minutes of an episode, the rest all being lost. I knew you were going to say that, so I must have been in the correct future. Mikey, heads up, heavy rain from black klouds and nasty loud thunder and lightning heading south towards you. The storm just blew threw. It thundered for 20 minutes this morning, keeping me awake in the dark, except for the flashes of lightning, then the rain hit, hard. I missed some but then got up and went out and put out some rain buckets, except not all because 4 of my buckets are full or city water. I did manage to finde a few of my housemates too and put them out. I had to keep emptiey some of the smaller ones, in the rain. I managed to capture 30 gallons of water in about 20 minutes. Then just as kwickly the storm passed, i saw a little grey sky with some blue holes in it. Well i won't need to do much watering today, half the plants are done and me too.

We went up to meet some friends at Surf City, a little over an hour North of me, and after dinner we could see all the clouds and it did rain for a few minutes on the drive home, we did see a LOT of lightening on the drive though. We didn't get any real rain though until after were home and snug in the house, then it POURED for over 30 minutes with thunder and a ton of lightening. It was even still raining when I went to bed after the 3rd quarter of the football game. This morning it is 5:30 am and just dark! JohnC my RAC went up again, it is now at 363,416! Truth be told sometimes the computers do better when I don't tough them every day. Unless they crash that is and since they are made up mostly of refurbished parts that happens much more often than I would like!! I generally buy a new motherboard and cpu and sometimes memory if what I have won't work and then use old cases, drives, fans etc to make one and get it up and running. Of course now I also end up buying a video card to crunch with too! All that means that computers are not as cheap to make as they used to be!! I think my next few upgrades will be to better video cards to increase my crunching power that way, instead of thru the cpu's. I am now WINNING!!

I am now WINNING!! That's right, keep on thinking that way. That way, when the winning event arrives and someone else's post is positioned on top you will just feel even worse. ;) j/k Keep on keeping on...we ARE in the final stretch!

Thank you for any help I can get. The only thing I can think of that would work, is to format the drive and reinstall Windows. Dune since it is a display issue I would go thru and uninstall the ATI stuff, then get the program going around that makes sure all is really gone, then install it again. And yes you will have to put your screen on the crappy onboard thing to do it and maybe even take the card physically out. I am not at home so don't have the program or the name of it, sorry. OOH, OOH I found a link to it!!!!!! http://downloads.guru3d.com/Guru3D---Driver-Sweeper-%28Setup%29-download-1655.html Aren't you just about the luckiest guy around today, now I hope it works for you!!! That means I am WINNING!!!!! for now at least

I am not so I am winning. Not sure what you're trying to say here, but I know I'm not winning. I've done all the stuff necessary and still no go. Pictures, and photographs look fine. But everything is lacking.... body and color. Some webpages are lacking color and clarity. And where there used to be buttons, there is now just text. WTF????? Is it possible to reinstall Windows using the repair feature? It'd definitely be my choice, as I don't want to loose what I have saved. I sure hate to reinstall from scratch, but that means backing up everything NOW. I kind of wanted to wait for a bit, but this is driving me nuts! ____________ ![]() Click Me The Final Front Ear

I am not so I am winning. Like I said I know not a thing about windows seven, excpet that I don't have it. It sounds to me like you theme is messed up ? While you guys argue over who is not winning, i sneek in for some WINNING.

It sounds to me like you theme is messed up ? How right you are!!! Today I went to pull the video card, and revert back to the onboard video to see if that helped. I've never had to deal with this computer until I had to pull out the card. So I uninstalled Catalyst and all the drivers, and shut down the computer to pull the video card, and that's when I found there was no onboard video. ![]() But I finally cranked it up again, desperate for a solution. I'm new at Windows 7 so I started poking around. I saw in the desktop "Personalize" the Basic and High Contrast themes, that somehow I was set to High contrast! So I reset it to Windows 7 Basic. And lo and behold!!!! I'm back in business again!!!!! I'm running right now on the Windows native drivers, and I'm wondering if I even want to install the ATI Catalyst program. I don't really game, as a game of Solitaire is as heavy as I get. But BOINC may crunch better if it really sees the card. Right now I'm as happy as a pig in (you know what). So the next round is on me! ![]() ____________ ![]() Click Me The Final Front Ear

Well THIS has been a bummer of a day. My primary system has crashed 3 times in less than 24 hrs. The most recent, just as it was starting to record a TV show off the cable box. Luckily the show repeats two hrs later, so I just re-queued it for the later time.

With any luck...problem solved! Apparently many problems solved today! I've finally got everything running as usual and it looked great with the Windows native drivers for the ATI card were looking good, so I assumed that everything was good. But I finally looked at BOINC and found that I wasn't doing anymore GPU crunching. So I relented and installed the ATI Catalyst program and now I'm finally crunching 4 cores and GPU also. So we're both winning! ____________ ![]() Click Me The Final Front Ear

With any luck...problem solved! I see you figured it out, there is NO CRUNCHING on the gpu unless you install either the ATI or Nvidia drivers, depending on the card you have. I am also glad you got your video working again too, I would not have thought about the 'theme' as I always use the default. I would have scrolled thru on mine, but not thought to check yours. I am just glad it is working again!!! Now get yourself a backup drive and USE IT!!!! There are several free and pay program out there to do backups both manually and automatically. Personally I would buy a WD drive and use the free version of Acronis, Seagate makes a version too I think. You MUST have at least one of those types of drives in the machine in order to use their program, it does not have ot be the backup drive though! JohnC my RAC is down to 355,529 but I think it is because DNETC is having problems at the moment! RandyC heat is by far the worst of the fixable pc problems we have and the least fixed! I too tend to let mine get dusty and slower before I do anything about them, but there are some people that blow out their pc's on a regular, calendar basis! Today is my last day on vacation, I head home in a few hours and will be home by mid afternoon or so. It has been fun, it only rained once during the day and that was yesterday. Night time rains I don't worry about because you are inside anyway. Yesterday it started raining around lunch time and continued raining until about 3pm or so, then it cleared up and it has not rained since. My son actually got in 9 holes of golf after the rain yesterday! Today I am winning because I am on my last day of vacation and it had definitely been a good one, WINNING!!!!!

I've got a backup drive, and I'm way ahead of you. The last backup was when I had XP, so it probably wouldn't have helped. But this morning, I've backed up the important data, so I'm good again. I've got a 1 TB WD My Book Essential external drive, so I've got plenty of room.

Well I had bad luck with backup drives. They work until you need them. So don't depend on a single drive ! At home I now have 5 drives for most data, 1 primary with 4 backups, not counting some data on the 2 main drives of the twins. I also have 3 more drives I use as media drives, those are copies of the master media collection on the primary. At work I use two drives, but i'm thinking of increasing that to 4 also. At one time I had network drives, those failed, two at the same time, I lost a lot of stuff, some was safe on an older backup, but it has taken me about 1-1/2 now to get back to about where I was, restoring and double checking what I could from paper. That is why I have more drives now, i'm paranoid and don't want to trust a single or pair of drives. I also had some network drives at work, a differnt model than the ones I had at home, but I was paranoid at the time and removed them from service and repalced them with just usb external drives. Plus now these days 1TB drives are so cheap it is much easier to have more than one backup drive.

It really is time to go to sleep. I am still not w*&king, so just kind of hanging out, going to lunch, doing stuff, watching tv, you know retired stuff! ;-))))) Randy and Keith I too have had a backup drive fail but I don't worry about it as much anymore since I am not in a business. If it goes, it goes, I put hours into trying to get back a drive once and then my wife said 'it's okay I didn't really want that stuff anyway'!!! I actually have very little I can't recreate or do without, except my genealogy! And that IS backed up in several places on several drives and at my dads too! Right now though I am WINNING!

It really is time to go to sleep. No, I DO NOT know RETIRED stuff, I still have to go to w&*k like other people.
Good, several copies of what's important to you is all you need. I have many thing I don't want to loose but if I did I'd get by some way, start over maybe. Ya and a lot of it is junk no used and should be deleted anyway. There were some projects lost in the last crash, and it was just impossible to recover and others would be too time consuming to continue and reconstruct so I just abandoned them. One thing lost was all my boinc backups, no big deal really, but when I was very active alpha testing, sometimes I opened those up to look at past logs searching for clues to a newer problem, it sometimes helped. I also lost my entire stats spreadsheet which i had for some projects for my computers. I lost every result. Again there is no way to get it back, I cut and pasted them off projects before they zapped them from the databases. I had all sorts of neato times related to my systems. Oh well, they still krunch without it and I don't even try to figure out any kind of performance anymore, I've not done any of that since the loss, which all it does for me is give me more time to watch movies. There were some other things I worked on for a while, but then gave up realizized I would never get caught up and recovered so i just abandoned it.
No time for WINNING now, i've got to get off to W&*K.

I am still not w*&king, so just kind of hanging out, going to lunch, doing stuff, watching tv, you know retired stuff! ;-))))) Now THAT is the way to do it!!! I first retired in December 2001 after 2 foot surgeries forced me to give up my career as a firefighter. After 2 1/2 years of laying on the couch and getting fat my wife sent me an email saying 'you have a job interview next Thursday, my friend is on the panel don't embarrass me'! Turns out it was light computer repair and alot of inventory management stuff and her friend was one who I had fixed two different pc's for her, I was back working before the interview was over!! 8-((( RandyC the disk will be in tomorrows mail! Keith we did not get to stop by the store maybe next trip, I will be looking for those calendar girls. I like September, all 3 of them!! JohnC my RAC is fluctuating because DNETC is having 'issues', so don't worry about me catching you for right now. I am still trying but it is hard when the project keeps going up and down. WINNING!!
