This morning I set my resource share for malariacontrol to 0 because I wanted to set the project as a backup project should the other project i was crunching went down (the other project was down when I did this). I saw the first few tasks download and start crunching and then I left for work.

This evening when I got home this computer had downloaded 680+ tasks that are in my queue and its all due by July 8th.

Any suggestions on what to do here? Should I just abort several hundred tasks so that other people can crunch them and they aren't waiting in my queue? any ideas why this happened? Been crunching with BOINC for several years now and I've never had this happen. thanks.

Other project is down and your cache is VERY LARGE, that along with a pc with alot of cpu cores would equal a TON of workunits being downloaded.

Sorry, I guess that I should have mentioned that this machine is an Intel 2500K quad core and my max additional work buffer is set to the standard 0.25 days.

What version of Boinc are you using? There are TWO cache settings, min work buffer and max additional additional work buffer. BOTH are important. If you upgraded from version 6 to version 7 of Boinc you should reverse the ver 6 settings to keep things working as before.

well I did upgrade from version 6 to 7 (7.0.25) but my min work buffer is 0 and then my max additional work buffer is 0.25. Seems to work with all the other projects I have run.

I'll abort most of the units so they can be run by other computers but I mostly just wanted to alert the admins that it happened in case they hear of other cases.

7.0.25 has a major work fetch problem. The operation of the work buffer settings was also changed in BOINC 7. Posts by Ageless and David Anderson in that thread describe the changes.

With your settings BOINC should be requesting enough work to keep your system busy for 6 hours (min work + max additional work) every time a project runs out of work (min work) for a project.

thanks for the link. I wasnt able to tell if the work fetch problem exists in all BOINC 7 versions or will version 7.0.28 possibly fix this? thanks.
