Surprise? Have we got a surprise? It may be a little cold around here, but no, I haven't seen anyone trying to hibernate...
Well, at this time, we're finally trying to put a beta release together here (we're on something like build 4 of this release now)! With this release we should finally be able to test out the mosquito part of the application with much larger simulations than we could possibly run on our personal computers here. (I'm sure I've mentioned the mosquito model in at least two status updates already. Trying to work out how many mosquitoes we should have in the simulations wasn't so easy; it's not like you can go out and count all the mosquitoes in an area!)
If all goes well, we hope to make a non-beta release late February or March. I hope within a similar time-frame we'll be able to start testing out some other components of the model too, although we're not expecting to be making predictions from these components too soon.
Over the last few months, we've been fitting parameters with the existing model code; this has been progressing nicely and some have now converged, leaving a few more which are also nearing convergence. We're thus hoping we can start the new fitting runs (using the new release) soon, otherwise there may be gap where we have no workunits requiring computation.
So, a big thank you for all the computation this community has helped us so far and we look forward to making use of contributions in our next series of publications.
