Sapindus against larvae?
(Message 20568)
Posted 218 days ago by Ananas
I've read somewhere that they killed mosquito breed with diesel oil in South America, after some invaded through planes and started to spread. Wouldn't ground Sapindus nuts be an option too? They contain saponine which relaxes the water surface. Afaik. the larvae need the tension to stick to the surface and breathe. Sapindus nuts shouldn't contain any long living environment poisons, people use them for washing cloths. They make you puke but they don't kill you when you eat them. It needed to be checked how this treatment affects other animals though, like water spiders, water bugs and beetles. I'm sure they at least have less side effects than diesel oil. p.s.: I don't know much about those things, it is just an idea. |

Long Run Times
(Message 19093)

The error on your box has been "Maximum elapsed time exceeded", which is exactly what I have been afraid of when I started that other thread : I just hope that no rsc_fpops_bound setting will kill it. It is a workunit setup problem, not a program failure on the hosts. |

Claimed credits or used-up CPU operations (those values are directly related). Those are a multiplication of runtime, benchmark results and a factor. Above that limit (I guess has a fixed ratio to some average value), BOINC doesn't grant any credits, below it does acording to the project rules. |

probably just below the limit. Check the other threads lately, others have the problem too ("Unusual result", "Errors Overnight" and "Long Run Times") |

That's the default reward for crunching long running workunits :-( |

My longest has been 48 hours on a slightly OC'ed C2Q 9450, it's currently "inconclusive" (there seems to be a Linux vs. Windows issue but some misguided weirdo doesn't let me see the wingmen). All other long ones have been valid and - no matter if there was a co-victim or I had it for my own - received 0.00 credits. A total of about 6 CPU days lost. Fortunately I had aborted the rest. I guess that this is an anti-cheating algorithm that is definitely in the wrong place here. p.s.: I had quite a hard time keeping my finger away from the "detach" button :-/ |

Work not reporting
(Message 18981)

Of course it might do, some day, but currently no. But if the GPU cache is empty and the BOINC client has been told to fetch work, it will accept GPU work if it's allowed to by your settings. If both (CPU and GPU) caches are empty, it will request both types of work, even if the project is unable to supply it. There are a bunch of GPU projects besides SETI, like MilkyWay, Collatz, Primegrid, afaik. even POEM has a GPU client now. p.s.: you can see if a project supports GPU work, it's listed on the "Applications" link of each project (here that would be : http://www.malariacontrol.net/apps.php) |

Work not reporting

Ah, so your client version has two cache handlers. That means that the local CPU cache has been stuffed but the GPU cache had still capacity and that's why it asked only for nVidia work. When you suspended the panic mode result, more CPU cache capacity has (temporarily) been freed. I often suspend work in order to enforce new requests but I didn't expect that it had a separate effect on CPU and GPU requests. |

I have just finished one more of those : wu_2952_317_742484_0_1337992814_0 CPU time 67,505.73 Validate state Valid Credit 0.00 What kind of nasty crap is this again? A new misconcept of the Berkeley despot? Some idiotic anti-cheating failure? Setting to NNW + aborting all unstarted results :-( |
