Will there be a version developed for x64 systems or is the need for that marginal. I belive that there are a substntional number of 64bit systems out there, and the number is increasing. Is there any figures if 64bit systems will perform better if a client softwere is beeing taylored?

It depends on what the app does. An app that uses a large percentage of integer operations will experience a large increase in performance from a 64bit version. Apps that use mostly floating point operations will see almost no increase in performance. Most of the BOINC projects use FLOPs almost exclusively.
