Hi,

according to server status page, there are 2000+ WUs available, but I'am (SUSE 11.0; BOINC 5.10.45) getting
"no work for your type of computer" messages? Beta work is allowed; just checked my pref's.

Problem on my end?

Michael

My gentoo 64b PC got several Wus.
So I assume there are tasks for Linux.

May be you need to update your BOINC version.

Actually, we did this on purpose, since we currently have a few incompatibility problems with linux builds (to clarify, it was working on some computers but failing due to lib versions on older systems). So, to avoid problems like this, we have currently disabled all linux clients -- hopefully, however, we can soon fix this.

Thanks, Larry

Version 6.10.43 was pulled because of problems, the Official version is now 6.10.56. I do not know if your problems are related but they could be. I am using 6.10.18 on most of my pc's and I am getting work. Version 6.10.43 had 'scheduling' issues.

Is "Run openMalaria test application" enabled in your project preferences? You might need to have "Run test applications" enabled too.

Yes; unfortunately it is too easy to mess things up when creating binary applications for so many different computers :/

This particular issue (no work for linux) I think we have fixed (though of course there can be delays when we deploy new app versions). Validation problems are the next to sort out!

Hello Everybody

A few more words about the issues we were experiencing with the linux applications (32 and 64 bits).

As mentioned in other places, we rely on a number of third party software libraries in our application to help us with tasks like generating random numbers or parsing input files. These libraries make our lives as programmers a lot easier - we don't have to re-invent the wheel.

Unfortunately, one of the libraries we started using recently would not work with the systems we used previously to build the linux versions of the science application. Getting working linux applications turned out to be a lot more challenging than we were hoping - despite the fact that the application ran fine on all computers we tested on here, it crashed very frequently on hosts connected to malariacontrol.net.

With version 6.36, the failure rate on linux is now a lot lower. A small number of hosts is still unable to run the application, and we hope to get to the root of this as well - any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regarding the recent non-availability of workunits for linux hosts: We are now using homogenous redundancy to address some validation problems. Because the number of workunits for download is low most of the time during testing, it happens that all workunits which are ready for downloading are reserved for Windows hosts (i.e. another instance of the workunit is already assigned to a windows computer).
