Wakey, Wakey.

Oh , its time for some early morning movie watching before I get into the day where i'll be busy kleaning and such with the daylight.

Thanks for the win.

Yesterday was double win day. Not only did I win here, but I kompleted my modifications to my new physical inventory kount, including some testing. Any changes now made will be logged, which means when viewing inventory history for each item, it will show up as an entry. At some point I can add a report, if there is not already one there, that will summarize physical kounts and the value differance. I had to take some shortcuts in the scrpit due to the fact I don't have total access to the program code, also i don't have a way to pass variables to the script other than they would have to be soemthing in the database somewhere. So for instance I hard koded in one element for a lookup, which is fine since at the time we only have one kompany, one location and one workgroup and always have, so I don't see it changing. It works for now but could cause problems in the future. I got it done, but for a while had trouble, every time I got my brain back into koding mode, another kustomer walked in or the phone rang, causeing me to put komputing on hold. I just went slow when I got back to it so as to not make any typing mistakes. Like the other day I had in one palce put "N0" instead of "NO". Boy that cause some problems and the script thingy has not such a good debug, only telling me that N0 was not found. Took me a while of testing to realaize and find the typ0.

While I get some koffee, you guys get on with the winning.

Good morning Krunchin, and a productive week end to you.

Plans for me this week end, apart from finding dry countryside walks for my dogs, is to complete my VAT Return (UK sales tax for our Revenue) which is now 2 - 3 weeks late.

FreeHAL is down, and has been for 2 days, so Mikey, and his new GPU, will be biting my RAC and total credit count.

Until then I will win, like you was!

Yes I did get another HD5770! And my rac is now at 334,134, so get moving or move over I am catching up fast.

JohnC I got an email from FreeHal the other day, do they still limit you on the total number of credits per day you can earn and are running into it? I have 3 or 4 pc's I could put over there, virtual ones of course but don't want to have problems.

Keith I now remember we talked a long time ago about the barcoding problems, sorry! At my old work EVERY piece of hardware had one and some even got an additional one to separate them from the other hardware. We were kind of lucky in that regard, most pc retail items have them from the factory now so that is easy to use. The additional one was to designate some hardware from some other hardware for ownership purposes, as in State or Local purchased.

WINNING!!

Good Morning to those awake, it seems some are still sleeping.

My housemate got up and left to go Bambi hunting at 4:30am. Which was great because I was already awake for some odd reason and drinking koffee. I got started on laundry duty and vacuuming. Had allmost all my chores of the day done before the krack of dawn. Only duty of the day left now is some gardening.

This will not be much fun, we got some nasty kold wind blowin' today. NW wind 20mph. The high of the day might be 60F. Tomorrow might be a little better so I think tomorrow is gardening day. I did bring a few tropical plants inside last week, good thing since is kold out there, at least for them.

Keep trying to win, ya never knwo how short a game might be.

No, not sleeping...running around doing weekend chores. Up @6:30am and off to Sams Club; mostly for diapers for the two grand-babys. The older one only had one of them pull-ups type for overnight and then would be out.

Then off to an art show to meet with the potter who made a coffee mug my wife got for Xmas last year. It looked beautiful, but it leaked. He gave her a free replacement and let her keep the original. Picked up some chocolate-raspberry fudge at one of the booths too.

Next off to Meijers for their Saturday only specials. I got two flannel shirts: buy one--get one for $1. Another stop at the drug store followed by the Dollar store. In a little while, we'll be heading out to the grocery store.

Right now I am...

FreeHAL does limit the credit per day maximum that can be given.

But this is on a per computer basis, or on a physical computer with one virtual PC (each being judges as a different PC. However, they will not give virtual PCs credit if there is more than one per physical host PC.

Okay thanks, Hey my rac as of this morning is up again, it is now at 351,823 and of course still climbing! I know you just needed to know that, it also means I may pass you rac wise in a few days. Credit wise I still have a ways to go yet!

Keith it is chilly here too, in the 40's most mornings and only into the 60's to low 70's by afternoon. Today they say will be an exception, it is supposed to get in the mid to upper 70's by this afternoon, it better get a move on because it is only 44 right now and it is already 7:30am!!

Bymark it must be nice to have all those new gpu's just laying around, if you find that they are just too much trouble I can give my address and will be happy to relieve you problems! *LOL*

Yeah, well I paid for it this morning...didn't/couldn't get out of bed 'til after 8:00am. Now I know for some people even THAT is early, but remember that I get up for w@^k at 4:30 am on weekdays. No sales that I have to hit today, just 'round the house chores now.

WOW a bunch of sleepy heads!!! I went to bed at 1:30am and still got up at 7am!!
Keith I am saving my bourbon bottles to make the Kahlua you gave us the recipe for a while back, I now have 4 empty bottles, the large ones. I am thinking by Spring I will have enough bottles to try it, although I am not sure I have a big enough pot!!

@Mikey

At the rate your new HD5770 is adding to your total credit, and climbing RAC, I expect to see you overtake my RAC tomorrow. The increase is so steep that I expect to see your RAC stabilise in about 2 months at around 500K.

I think you are placing this new power on DNETC?

Well heres a trick to making kahlua. You don't need one huge pot. As long as you have one big enough to kook the syrup sugar stuff, you can blend it into two different pots after it kools. I did that back in the beginning before I got a bigger pot.

Poor half of the kooled syrup as best you can into two pots or large plastic containers. Add halfish of each alcohol to the two pots. mix each. Then fill all the bottles half way from the first pot mixture and half from the second pot mixture, this kind evens out if your halfzies at the mixing stage are not exact. A little messier way to do it, but it is doable without one large kauldren.

Oh yeah, right now Dnetc is the only way for me and my ATI gpu's, I even have one of my Nvidia ones there because it was having problems with Einstein. Since Quantum Fire Alpha does not do gpu processing I have the cpu there and the gpu at Dnetc for that machine. Most of my machines are doing Einstein right now, just the cpu's if they have an ATI gpu, which is then at Dnetc. But since Einstein can use an Nvidia card, if the machine has that both the cpu and the gpu crunch for Einstein. Mr rac right now is 360,776 so it is climbing nicely still!

Keith I like the split batch idea, that may be the way to go for me, at least until I can figure out how to find a huge pot, maybe a yard sale or something may have really big one! I was also thinking of using a cooler to store the smaller batches in and then since the cooler has a dump valve I could use it to pour it into the bottles. It is still in the thinking about it process, not the finished I am going to do it process.

SwiftMallard you stir fry your birds? I have never heard of that but I'll bet they are delicious!! Good luck and keep on shooting, I think the limit is more than one! Oh and the Vikings WON!!! That is a very good thing because the Cowboys and the Redskins are in the same division and the Redskins lost too, to the Colts. In order to reach the playoffs, still a LONG way off, some other teams need to be below the Redskins, and right now the Cowboys are filling that role!!

I don't think the cooler thing will be too good to use. After all this stuff is thick and sticky, you might just end up with a big cloged value and more mess. You'd also want the cooler to be very sterile befor you use it, otherwise this stuff will eat anything in the cooler and add it to the mix. Doesn't sound too tasty to me. It might also eat a hole in the plastic, it is pretty toxic !

Keep trying to WIN, we're not there yet.

I usually brown my birds and then put them into the crock pot with mushrooms and whatever other veggies are going to go in too. Mmmm.... Stir fried carefully works but you have to be really careful not to overdo them. My friend is a good game cook. He can grill a mourning dove so that it is a bite of heaven.

The Vikings pulled it out of their @$$. The mood here is Fire Childress!

See I would say fire Brett Favre not Brad Childress! Favre does no training camp and thinks he has some kind of instant karma with anyone and anything, he is an idiot! We are not talking sandlot football here, these plays are drawn up meticulously and it takes a long time to get the timing down! Brett is nothing but a glory seeker now and I think they messed up by pursuing him AGAIN!!! Now he wants to sit out a couple of games to 'let his elbow rest', BS get in there and earn your money! Either go down in a blaze of glory or a blast of defeat, but at least do it IN the game!!! I have the exact same elbow problem he does, I can go get a shot of Cortisone and it is fine in a couple of days, no pain good as new! I am not sure if Cortisone is an NFL banned substance or not but it sure works for me!! Now I can only get a max of 3 shots per year, it does something to the body after 3 shots and at that point the Doctor told me I had to have surgery if I needed that. So far, knocking on wood here, I have only needed a max of 2 shots per year.

Thanks Keith, now I need to find another way!! Will a large water bottle do it? I have a few large water cooler type bottles left over, they are plastic though and would need washing out first.

WINNING!!

I agree about Favre, but too many here are in love with him. He should have retired (the first and only time) several years ago when he was on top of his game. Now he'll be remembered as just another guy who didn't know when to leave. It's sort of sad really.

I totally agree about Farve but think it is there personality types that makes them think they are invincible! Type A personalities are like that and I am VERY glad I am not someone that is!!
And I forgot to say it but I do like your recipe for the pheasants, I will have to pass it on to my cousin. He is out hunting himself and won't be home until the 27th!

That sounds like a resonable soultion. Make sure though that the syrup stuff is completely kool first, like I said I let mine sit overnight. I know some hot liquids or foods can melt plastic. It would make mixing maybe eaiser after everything is in if you can just shake it around some, i guess.

Well, I'm of two minds about it. The fewer people that vote, the more my vote is worth. However, when few people vote it's usually the special interests that wind up winning.

On the other hand, there are so many idiots out there that just play a party ticket regardless of what may happen, instead of doing even a minimal amount of research to see who/what really should win/lose...it makes me want to cry. :(

However, right now I am...

You passed me yesterday when my RAC was about 362K and you got 367K.

I have nothing more to crank up, except for about 5K which depends on FreeHAL returning to issuing work.

I will not be able to crank the RAC much past 365K for a few months until I can afford a another GPU.

Winning a little.

No winning yet, but I hear some wineing.

Oh boy, I goofed. I though I had this latest database physical count thing done. I hadn't got started on any actual counts yet. So today I decide one more time to do a test run, change some numbers, let it record the log entries, then change them abck and I can delete all the entires. [b]O/[b]ops. Something was amiss, bigtime. All the items updated correctly with the ite number, but the descriptions and so on were all wrong sort of. Item A had descr A, item B descr B, item C descr A, itemc d descr B and so on, every two items had either a or b description and wrong quantites and so on.

I looked at the update code, file A updates from B, linked to C and D and the links were ok matrching items in B to C and B to D. Why was the description and other stuff from file D being recorded wrong in A ?

Pull some hair out and hunt down that bottle of extra large asparin.

Oh I found it, what a dummy I can be. I left off the link between file A and the B-C-D combo. The link matches up items, in this case by item number. Without the link it kinda does whatever it feels like matching wise. Don't know if I just forgot or that was like when a customer came in and I just didn't resume where I left off and didn't catch it. Stuff happens.

Oh well thats now fixed and all correct. I'm glad I decided to run one more test, otherwise it would have gone unnoticed and all the logging would be wrong.

Next i've got to add a sumamry line for the logging to one file and then I can use a built in report (yahoo) no report writing, to print a report of the changes. That will be easy to do that and much less than writing a whole report.

Today starts off chilly (39F) and looks to be mostly cloudy with possible rain this evening. High for today: 64F. Not too many of those left before the real cold sets in.

RandyC I have been telling people to vote for a long time now, do you think it will help or are there too may apathetic people out there? I AM voting!!!

WINNING!!

WINNING!!!

I vote for Mikey.

I hate voting, i'm not a party guy.

I AGREE on BOTH counts!!! I WIN and I am NOT a party guy!! This time though if I don't know who is running the incumbent goes out! I got a sample ballot and went thru the list though, so no surprises when I get there. My only problem with voting the incumbents out is that in alot of my races the person running is the person that got beat last time! What a joke that is, vote out one incumbent just to put another one back in?!!! I think term limits is the answer, 12 years MAX and then never again!! Get rid of career politicians and the ridiculous practice of doing things just to stay in office, people should be there to make a difference, not because it is a lifetime job!!!

JohnC my new rac is 389,142 and steadily climbing, so I guess I am now coming for your Boinc totals, ol buddy!

Keith I think you need to go back into you little hole in the wall cubicle in the back while you do this inventory thing, too many distractions out front! I am glad you found the problem though!! AND that is a VERY good thing you decided to do a last test, whew that could have been a VERY bad thing!! No Christmas turkey would have been coming your way if you had not found and fixed the problem and the boss had seen the mess!

I agree, but there is no cubicle anymore, I moved inventory around and now it is the 'Furuno' stock pile.

Besides if I'm in the back, i can't check out beach bunnies hopping down the sidewalk.

Your 10 hours are up.

Today I put some finishing touches and slickification on it and got that last sumamry line done with some testing, I didn't test a report yet, oops. I had to read a few of the pages of my 800+ page book, so maybe today I learned some new tricks.

I'm ready to start doing a precount and get some of it straightened out, maybe beginng next week which puts me a week ahead of schedule. I need a couple days rest first.

We're due for some rain overnight. It's been a while, so even though I don't think we're really dry I guess we can use a little wet stuff. Just so long as it's "little" and "wet" instead of frozen!

I DID have a touch of frost on one of the car windows this morning...the others just had a lot of dew on them.

Better you than me, right now it is in the low 50's outside so no frost or even moisture for me, whew good thing! DC cannot handle snow let alone any frozen wet stuff!

Outside right now it is still dark but since the window is open I can hear the wildlife in the woods behind my home and I hear an owl 'hooting' out there. I wish he would stop 'hooting' and start hunting the squirrels and chipmunks that are still around, I had to chase an animal off my deck just yesterday!!

Another nice day. It gets into the 50s at night and into the 70s in the day.

Fixed one last thing this morning that was bugging me. The software we use has some weird quirks in it. In this one file the store and event date, such as 10/21/2010 which is a datetime variable. Then in a separate field store the event_tim, also as a datetime variable, but the date they make as 12/31/1899. Now what mades it tricky they put some kind of restriction on it, i can't just store NOW into the time field. I could not jsut store the time part of now, because it converts to '1/1/1900' plus the time. I had to use '12/31/1899 ' + just the time part of now convertered from a datetime into a string so the two could be combined together and then converted back to a datetime. Why could they not just store now and ignore they date, or store both the event date and time in a single field. I spent a lot of time working around their constraint until i figured out the solution which was rather simple, but in the begining it had me baffled. I even gave up on it yesterday I was so frustrated. After a good nights sleep, I had a fresh perspective and solved it quickly this morning. These are the kind of hoops I have to always jump through with this software. You always have to go the long way around to accomplish the simpleist task. Oh well that is all finished, now on with a spell of nothingness.

Well, it was a 'little' warmer this morning (~43F) and no sign of frost. I did get some rain overnight, but the sky was clear this morning (big bright moon shining!). All the moisture and the coolish temps made for occasional wispy fog, but not enough to be an issue on the drive to w@^k!

Believe me, I'm quite familiar with what happens in the DC area when the white stuff comes down. I lived in Fairfax County from late '76 thru late '84. That included those two big February storms at +18". I also remember Florida Flt 90.

In years past I've heard an owl hooting near my house in the back wooded lot, but not recently. I kinda miss him/her. Although I've got plenty of squirrels and chipmunks around the house, I'm more upset at the 'possums, skunks, and raccoons that try to raid my garbage cans.

I TOTALLY agree!

Hey JohnC I wanted to let you know my rac is now at 406,061 and will be climbing even higher than we previously thought! I had to redo my Windows Home Server yesterday and in the process brought another machine on line, it is an AMD 5800+ dual core cpu and I put the gpu I took out to put my 5770 in, an Nvidia 9600GSO, into the machine. Once I get the projects sorted out it will be fine, I initially started with Dnetc but then added Einstein and everything ground to a halt, after a few minutes I remembered that Einstein uses Nvidia cards and my preferences allow that, so I was trying to use the gpu for 2 projects at the same time! In fact I JUST NOW fixed it, it is back to crunching Dnetc and Quantum Fire Alpha a rendering project.

The machine has a 100gb C: drive and 2 1tb drives in it that I will connect to remotely for backups of my other machines. I am now using the program Macrium Reflect, the free version, for my pc's but am going to be setting up Acronis Backup, the paid version, for my wifes pc. All machines will back up to the 2 1tb drives, my wife will use one exclusively for now and I will use the other one for all the other machines. Eventually we are going to replace a 500gb drive in her machine with a 1tb drive and then use a 2tb drive for her backups. I am thinking right now of a local 2tb drive that is hooked directly to her machine instead of putting it in another machine and then making her backup that way. I know an internal is MUCH faster but it will probably be an external anyway, I don't want her using it for everyday stuff!!

No detailed notes or notes at all. This is kalled job security.

There is some documentation as komments inside the procedures to komment on each step.

But as far as counting inventory and korrectiong the komputer, the whole process is a secret. Even with the report, edit table and two scripts on my menu (no one else has thes on thier menu), it would not make much sense to anyone else how to accomplish the task. It is not klear just with those entires what would need to be done. Anyone taking over my job would probabbly be pulling hair out within 5 minutes. Since I wrote them to work within my brain's thinking pattern, it is easy for me to remember. I remember these things as i've pretty much been doing the same thing for 28 years now, its part of my nature.

Keep trying at WINNING.

See when I did my inventory stuff I found I kept changing the way I did things and it was frustrating to find that and that I could not remember how I had coded it the last time! Sometimes I would code it one way, sometimes another and then another time I honestly have no idea what I was thinking!! I ended up making a cheat sheet so I could code it the same way everytime, making reports MUCH easier and more sensible!!

JohnC my rac is up to 414,116 for today, it should be higher but yesterday I was doing some backups and therefore Boinc was either shut down or 'snoozed' on those machines during the process.

It is 39F out there right now and it is almost 5:30AM, my toes are chilly! Yes the windows are open because it is going up into the mid 70's today, tomorrow and Monday too, at least that is what the weather man says right now anyway!!

Chilly here today. I went grocery shopping and had to wear long sleeve shirt, for the first time.

Now my chores are done for the week, that leaves all day to watch movies and consume beverages. Maybe i'll make some more cupckaes or brownies later. The batch from last week was gone before friday.

Pre-Inventory is going well, I did one corner of the showroom Thurs-Fri.

The counting is fairly easy. Fortunately i planned ahead for this and modified or database adding an 'item location' field. This can be any text and is broken done by area-shelf-bin depending on how things are stored in that section. The section i did contains seven ids with each one no more than two pages. The problem comes in as only items with non-zero quantites are printed so some items need to be hand written on the list.

Since this is the first real time i've used this, then i've got to edit some items to add missing location ids. Entering the quantities back into my edit table is easy made by the fact the list is sorted by location_id+item_numnber. I would enter all the items of a location_id, then run the import back to inventory script, then print out a new corrected invenotry page for that location. It is taking a little longer this time because i've got to do some extra updates on items.

By the time we do a final inventory at the end of the year, all the items we have should be correctly tagged with a location and i'm hoping the quantites will be closer so every item prints on the sheets. My plan is to get the boss man and the other people to do the counting, while i update the pages into the edit file. what i'll do is print out all the pages, hand each guy a page one location_id set of pages and say go count this, when your done bring it back to me and i'll give you another set. This way to I can send each person into a differnet section of the building so they are not bumping into each other while counting.

Also this time of year we reduce inventory so we are running out of a lot of things making the counting go easier. We have about 30K items in the database that we can sell, only about 1K have locations assigned, the rest are non-stocked items.

Anyway i've still got about 8 weeks to complete the pre-inventory, which sould be no problem. The year is going by fast.

I've still got some more work to do on the procedure, some additional additions that will help along the way and possible writing a report for it, but maybe i'll leave that for the winter when it is even slower.

With a report, it can call a procedure, which does the same thing as my script, only it can be modified to do a trial run, without modifications. Either way the procedure returns the records affected back to the report. Also with this method i get a popup first where i can add some variables and item filters which would affect the outcome, not that i really need that but it would make some parts of this easier and more user non-computer guru friendly. This is how i get things done, make them work and then when there is time, make them pretty and fancy.

Time for more koffee.

Coming up later today will be the rules for the new winning method game.

Question: If you're reducing inventory, and the count goes to zero...and zero count items don't print... What's gonna happen with the items the inventory says are zero, but are actually not? Are your 'counters' REALLY gonna hand-write those items? Hopefully, those will be few and far between.

Waiting on a new way of...

Well yes, they are gonna hand write any items not printed but there. Its not that hard to write a part number and quantity. They don't need to write in anything else. I did it on my pre-count sheets. Most of those are because they had not been assigned a location id yet. But there should be very few since i'm doing a pre-count now and correcting inventory.

I can print the sheets with all items, but this would produce a lot more pages, because those items are now out of stock. It would just make recording the items there more difficult, more to look through and also waste a lot of paper and ink. I only need to print out about 1000 items, at about 20 per page due to line spacing and headers that would be 50 pages. If i printed everything it would be like 1300 more pages.

After that there is an even easier part for any items not physically there, but may have a non-zero quantity in the computer inventory. This is the easiest part. We don't have to count items that are not there. Every item counted and posted back is asigned a batch number plus flagged as counted. After the count I can view all the items unflagged or with no batch number. Then change any of those showing a non-zero quantity to zero. Run the script to record all those as zero back in inventory.

I don't expect that many to dissapear in two months. The last count with computer update was like 4 years ago. Things have changed also at work with me being out front to watch the showroom. In the past I suspect some inventory walked off when no one was looking. The biggest problem we have is we receive items, yet someone looses paperwork, hint, not me, this is before it get to me.

Also too we buy items that come in several boxes, yet split them up or mix-n-match two sets into different sets. The boss man doesn't ever write down these so when the new items are sold, inventory becomes wrong. We also buy used equipment, then add new parts to it and sell it as a package, yet no-one else records the new parts, again inventory is wrong on those. A third thing is we buy new whole units, take them apart and sell the parts. Again no record keeping, more wrong items.

He doesn't really care out the computer ever being correct except for 1 second at the end of the year so we can have a printed report for some kind of tax purposes. In the past I or omeone else has assembled a separate record for this at the time using a spreadsheet or paper. But due to problems in out software it was too time consuming to put those numbers back into the computer inventory to make it correct. Now with my new procedures it will be easier to accomplish both tasks at once with less trouble/work for me.

Dinner tonight includes another home grown Sweet Potato

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

It's huge, 8 inches long, about 2.5-3 inches thick and weighs 15 ounces.

Those are some very hot peppers I grew laying below it.

It better be good, took me ten minutes to dig it out of the pot, where it finally broke to get it out. The broke end was at the bottom and the greenish end was sticking out of the dirt. It was hard to get as I could not move the pot, others around it and plants growing out of it. There's another one beside where it was. Then in a bigger pot there are two more bigger ones sticking out. I'm sure there are another half dozen around there somewhere. This will be about the seventh one to eat for this years crop.

OK here'e the new sub-game rules, Simple but there are some tricks and maybe a treat (in honor of Halloween).

Guess a three digit number between 000 and 999.

You are allowed one guess per post within the posting rules, meaning no double or more guesses in a row by the same person, if you do all you guesses in a row are invalid, even if correct and I won't tell you.

Guessing the number correctly is only the trigger for the end of the game.

Other people can post between your correct guess and my checking the thread.

Only the last person that posted wins as usual, even if they didn't guess the number or any number at all.

So playing this sub game does not gauarnteee you will win. That's the catch.

The 3 digit number changes every day around this time.

I will tell you every day when it resets, although there may be days where it doesn't, another trick.

The number is generated at random by a card game i play on my mobile device, called freecell. Each day around this time when I start a new game, I will use the first three cards in the range of ace through ten that are dealt out as the random number, ignoring any J-Q-K. Tens count as 0, aces as ones.

Now you can't try to play freecell to get the random number, because you don't know what game i'm on. i might play between 3 to 12 games a night, so the next game the next day will be some random number of games away.

Let the game begin.

Okay I have a question, if I post the correct number and then someone else posts a message, do I still win?

JohnC my rac went down today it is now 411,263 but that is because I am doing a backup of my machine with the newest gpu in it. It is not the C: drive that I am worried about it is the other drives in the machines that are used for storage of 'stuff' on them that is the problem. The current one has a 160gb C: drive but a 320gb E: drive that is full of stuff I have saved that I might 'need' someday! It is going to take about 24 hours total to back it up but once done won't need to be done again for a long time. And of course Boinc is not running on the machine while the back up is running, I may let Boinc run on the next machine just to see if it takes longer or not. Of course the data on the different E: drives is different so there is not way to do a direct comparison.

I went thru my freezer yesterday and found an OLD beef roast in there that we bought quite a while ago, yesterday I cooked it all day in the slow cooker, 10 hours, and today after using 2 forks to shred it I have started it back up cooking again, for 6 to 8 more hours, but this time in bbq sauce. The first time you can cook it in no additional juices but I always add a little just to keep it from sticking. It will be DELICIOUS and is actually quite easy to make! I have used both cheap pork roasts and beef roasts in the past and it is DELICIOUS and easy! Personally I like Bulls Eye Original flavor bbq sauce, but any kind will work just fine. If you do it get a 2 lb or so roast and use 1 whole bottle of bbq sauce, easy proportions and as I said DELICIOUS!!

SwiftMallard where are you going on vacation? Hunting would be my guess but weren't you just on vacation for that? We were just talking about cooking your pheasants a few days ago!! Must be 'use or lose' leave time, which must be nice!! My wife has finally picked a date to retire, her last day is Dec 9th and then she will be on terminal leave until the 1st week of January and then her retirement starts. She cannot go back to work until at least 30 days have elapsed from her last work date, so she will be home for about 2 months before she could go back! Boy will things be different then!!!! Right now I can do things when I want to do them, when she is home that will all change!

Mikey, I am able to hunt on weekends too, which is a plus about living in Minnesota. I am going later today only about 80 miles away. Don't know if there many birds there though.

Okay I have a question, if I post the correct number and then someone else posts a message, do I still win?

Maybe.

As always only the last person that posted wins no matter what.

Lets say you post the correct trigger number, but one person posts after you before I read it. That other one person wins because they are the last poster even if they didn't guess a number or posted a wrong number.

Lets say you post the trigger number, another person posts something, you psot again with another number that is wrong, I check the thread, you win becuase you are the last poster and a previous post had the trigger in it, even though your last guess is wrong.

This is a game of trick-or-treat. Sometimes you get a trick, sometimes a treat.

If you don't guess, that just means the game may go on longer.

Now I get a treat because its koffee time.

swiftmallard, if your guess is '80' you should have put the leading zero on it to make it valid: 080.

My guess for this post is: 404 (what else could it be?)!

Yes. I thought that was clear when I wrote it. I hope the examples provide a clearer picture.

swiftmallard, if your guess is '80' you should have put the leading zero on it to make it valid: 080.

I don't thin 80 was a guess.

I'll add these rules.

If you make a post with only one 3 digit (or less) number, that number will count as a guess, even if you don't declare it a guess.

In case of posts with multiple numbers, you must specificially declare one to be the guess as Mikey and RandyC did.

It is not necessary to declare the leading zero(s). 80 will be the same as 080, and 7 the same as 007.

Any posts I make do not count as the trigger, this if I write some message with 7 in it, you still can try to use that as a guess. Any numbers I write are not necessarily clues, write or wrong.

My guess for this post is: 404 (what else could it be?)!

WINNING!!!

404 is an error code for web page not found, in this case, it means winning number not found. trick on you.

I get another treat, eggs with fresh bell pepper and one hot pepper.

Mikey, I like my hot peppers, sort of, as long as I don't use too many. I've been putting one in myomlette. i had one in some soup. I did use three in a hamburger helper type dish.

Oh yeah, that Swee'tater was excellant. I can't believe I ate the whole thing. i brush them with oil and bake unwrapped in the oven at 350 degrees. That one took a little over an hour. Its kind of a guessing game fir the kook time. Since it was huge I game it an hour, plus the time to kook some pork and veggies.

Now for that breakfast treat and more koffee.

Ah, but the trick COULD have been making the winning number VERY hard to find...like on a lost web page.

No winner yet, trigger number RESETS now.

Speaking of Halloween, I making some Pumpkin brownies for dinner.

I've also been having an odd number of orange food lately. I guess because all i have is Orange tomatoes, Sweet Potatoes and Orange Bell peppers.

I really think the busy little bees cross polinated the mutant orange toamtoes with the bell peppers. The years before I planted those tomatoes I had few orange peppers, now all I get is mostly orange. Also too I have this pot of flowers. Most are purple or pinkish and always have been. Today I noticed one Orange one.

Your link did not come thru and when I just copied and pasted it said page not found....but I like the Isle of Man TT too and I like the sidecars but would be way too scared to ride in one!! Leaning all over the place without a belt to keep you on the hting if you hit a bump or something, no thanks!!!

JohnC my rac today is 414,071, so a slight increase from yesterday, I spent half the day backing up another pc, I have half of them to go still! And a couple of the ones remaining are the biggies!!! I did order one 2tb drive yesterday though, Newegg sent me a mailer with a 5 star rated one for only $109.00 but I had to buy some Arctic Silver paste for $10.00 to go with it, I can always use the Arctic Silver so it was not a big deal. I will have to buy another 2tb drive and a case for the 2 of them in a few months, must backup the backup you know! I am thinking of just raiding them when I get all the parts together, that way I do not have to copy the stuff from one drive to the other.

Keith do you mean the lowest layer of cards, the ones you can play, or the first layer dealt? I am guessing the ones you can play and therefore guess 150.

SwiftMallard it is a good thing you live in Minnesota! If you lived here in Virginia you would not be able to hunt as much and no pheasant hunting at all unless you traveled to someplace far away, like Minnesota!! Oh and too bad about the game last night, it was so close!

What the heck? My pic was on the board yesterday! Anyhow, those sidecar guys have cojones made of solid gold to do the stuff they do. I watched some of it yesterday. My wife was alarmed, "You mean they are riding a deathtrap and they aren't even strapped in? They have to hang on for their own death?" LOL that stuff is just crazy!

The hunting was pretty low key yesterday. My partner had to clean out his Blazer in prep for getting it towed away. He totaled it ten days ago. We just went to one area about a 090 minute drive away. It was a nice place, about a quarter section, with some corn for a food plot, cattails, grassy areas, tree lines, all sorts of habitat. Pheasants had most definitely been roosting there but we didn't see any. The dog did well with her new collar, and yes, I am one of those hunters who has more money spent on stuff going around his dog's neck than his wife's.

@Mikey

My RAC will remain as is until next year, when I might be able to sneak in a new ATI GPU.

Have you seen the write up on the new 6870 and 6850 yet?

AMD have rationalised and they are the equivalent of the HD5770 and HD5750, and not a direct comparison to the HD5870 and 5850.

The equivalents to these GPUs have yet to be released by AMD, and they are likely to be designated the HD6970 and HD6950.

These cards are all likely to be very pricey, with the assumption that the HD69xx cards being only for those that have deep pockets.

The winning number is 123.

I have to tell you, someone guessed a number that had 2 of the 3 digits correct, but I'm not gonna tell you which one it was.

Anyway, No winner yet, the number RESETS now.

Mikey, I use the first three cards delt out, left to right, which are the bottom cards of the stacks. These are not the first cards you can play. Doesn't matter much since you don't know what game out of 1M games on.

I wanted to play them all. I have to play something like 68 games a day to get them all done before I go poof. Fat chance of that, The best I've done is about 13 in one day.

ps,
I made the killer Pumpkin filled Fudgy Brownies. These are to die for. Gotta run and go get my treat now, ya'll get tricked again.

@swiftmallard: it's all over the radio this morning about the big storm coming my way out of Wisconson. There's a wind advisory from 10:00am today until 10:00 pm tomorrow...that's a long time! Tornado watches are up all over western MI. Gusts are expected to exceed 060 mph! That doesn't even take into account the thunderstorms they predict.

If I disappear for a while it's probably because the power lines or internet cable came down. ...trying to batten down the hatches and still keep...

I had not even known they were coming out until you just posted the reviews, THANKS!! I think though I will wait and see how they do in Boinc before I buy one, someone else will and will then brag or rag on them! I do not like the fact that the number of stream processors went down though!!

My rac today is 422,069 so I am back to climbing nicely. No backups were done yesterday one just would not work, the one pc would not see the other one! The one I need to backup is a Win XP Pro machine and the one where it needs to backup too is a Win7 machine, at first I thought that was the problem but then I remembered I have just recently done a backup of a Win XP Home machine to the Win7 backup machine and it went just fine! I have an external drive I will hook up to the XP Pro machine today and do it that way instead! That XP Pro machine is scheduled to go to Win7 someday anyway.

Swiftmallard I have never been hunting but that field you described does sound like the fields my cousin hunts in. I just like the results of the hunting and am now too old to learn to hunt! I would need a younger person around just to drag the results out of the woods at this point! Not counting the potential of misses, ie woundings, which could lead to L-O-N-G trackings!

RandyC I saw the weather coming your way and am VERY glad it is only going to brush me. I am going to see mid 70 temps today with rain and then even higher 70's tomorrow before slowly heading back down towards the more normal low to mid 60's we are supposed to be seeing by the end of the weekend. Good luck and check that generator, make sure the pc's are hooked up to it too!;-)))

I haven't been hunting since 1965, maybe before. I was just a kid then, so I never got to shoot at anything--just flush out the pheasants for dad and anyone else with us. We took our dog with us one time...he ran all over the field and finally flushed out a pheasant down at the far end--way out of range.

I don't have a generator at home (sometimes I wish I did), just a few UPS boxes I plug my systems into. Looking at the radar map right now--looks like the nasty stuff is about 50 miles or so to the west. We're under a tornado watch until 6pm. There's a big yellow-orange-red blob that's coming out of the SW and looks like it's heading straight for us. Gonna be a fun drive home tonight!

Regarding a generator...seeing as how both the wife and I now are driving Prii (that's plural for Prius), I heard there was a mod you could install to run the electric motor and feed electricity into the house. Never looked into it, but it might be worth it.

Current guess: 965

I think you outta ship your 2 Pius (or is Pii the plural?) and The twin micro-gasturbine powered generators should ship a great deal of 12 DC current to be stepped to 230/110 Volt single phase OK. Possibly sufficient to give you all the home power you want. After all the electric Jag sports 4 x 197 BHP electtric motors the generator can support.

Perormance is 3.4seconds to 62.5mph and 5.5 seconds to 100mph. Main mode is EV for 68 miles and the 2 generators, powered by micro-gasturbines, extend the range to well over 600 miles. The carbon dioxide of this one, when the car is going flat out (205mph) is 28 gm/km driven.

The number is 333

Also none of the numbers guessed matched any other day either, not that it would count.

I do like the 666 guess, since for me this is horror movie month and I had just watched the Omen. I'm saving the best for last.

The secret number RESETS now.

Since no winners I get another Pumpkin Brownie, only 6 left after tonights.

I hope you are home safe and sound and the storm has moved on!! The weather man here said it would start raining about 5am and it did!! First time in I don't know how long he was spot on right!! Maybe it will start a new trend for them, but I doubt it!!

Hey I was updating my pc this morning and saw this:
"So the two R6800 SKUs each have a separate codename, the R6850 being Barts Pro and the 6870 being the Barts XT.

Both cards are of course updated DX11 class product with a couple of new features. Armed with 1.7 billion transistors the Radeon HD 6850 is pitted against the competitions GeForce GTX 460 768MB model, the 6850 which is clocked at 775 MHz on it's core and shader processors domain and comes with a full GB of graphics memory. This memory is 256-bit and running at an effective data-rate of 4000 MHz.

The product has 12 SIMD clusters, 48 texture units, 960 shader processors, 32 ROPs and a TDP of 127W, 19W in idle. Despite the memory bus you can recognize similarities close to the R5770 here. This product however will bring you 1.5 TFLOPS of performance, and combined with that 256-bit gDDR5 memory it will leave the R5770 far behind it."

I guess my next purchase will have to be a HD6850Pro at least then.

JohnC my daily rac is now at 429,769, no backups were done yesterday because I had my weekly luncheon with the guys and then my neighbor was outside while he got a new heat pump system installed, so we talked for a couple of hours. I may do the same thing but I am not sure yet, they want 40% up front and cash flow is not good right now. I can afford 100 dollar things but not 4 thousand dollar things right now! I am hoping they extend the tax breaks past January 1st so the businesses keep getting the business. Come February or March I will be almost debt free, except for my house, so can then afford to do some much needed stuff.

It was 78F in my house this morning when I woke up, I put the a/c on and closed all the windows, it is much cooler already!! It is supposed to get up to the high 70's but rain all day today, then start cooling down tomorrow and be near normal by the end of the weekend.

451.

WINNING!!

Like your 2 HD5770, the new released AMD HD6870 and HD6850 cannot do double precision. So, if you wanted to do Milkyway crunching you need to use your CPUs as double precision is essential to the project.

For Milkyway the current ATI cards are the best crunchers just as for DNETC), leaving the nVidia cards in the slow lane.

The new HD699x GPUS, when these are released, will be the crunchers to go for, but it might result in the need for a small mortgage.

I hope too win with the number 256 as a good bandwidth to run with.

Well with only 3 guesses out of 1000, no one was right and no one guessed any previous number yet either. The closest anyone has been was about 25 away, but not today.

I get another Pumpkin Brownie treat, only 5 left now.

Game RESETS with a new number.

This probably won't make sense to you, but did you put 'Frank's Hot Sauce' on it?!
There is a commercial going around the US right now about how this lil old lady puts Frank's Hot Sauce on EVERYTHING and one of the commercials has her at a tea for the Queen and they ask her why the cucumber sandwiches are so good and the lil old lady says "Frank's Hot Sauce, I put that **** on everything"!!

John my rac today is 436,087, so I did another jump up but still managed to do 2 backups yesterday. I have several more backups to go but other than my Server they are going to be biggies and take some time! I HAVE to do them but my 2tb drive came yesterday and I will probably schedule my wife's pc first. Initially the 2tb drive will be connected thru a usb cable but eventually it will get paired up with another 2tb drive and a box that connects thru an E-Sata cable. Here is a link to the box:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816132029&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL102110&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL102110-_-EMC-102110-Index-_-ServerRAIDSystems-_-16132029-L010B

I LOVE pumpkin bread but have never had a pumpkin brownie either. I do make my own homemade beer bread, it is really easy, and it tastes much different depending on the kind of beer you use in it.

Keith I thought you would like the last number I picked. 8-)))
Today I am guessing the number 608 is the winning number!

WINNING!!

It's not my recipe.

The winner will get the recipe and all the Pumpkin Brownies left.

Sorry but no one won today, so I get another treat which leaves 4 more.

I'll give you a clue now for the recipe:
Pumpkin Swirl Brownies

No 6*2*1 and [0-9]{3} do not count as they in themselves are not a single 3 digit number, The answer might be, but i'm not gonna do the math.

Very cute Randy!!!

JohnC my rac for today is 440,542 but I am going to plug in my new 2tb drive to my wife's pc today and start the backup process so my rac may go down for tomorrow. I found a coupon on the exact drive I bought, remember I need a 2nd one, so I called Newegg and asked if I could apply the coupon to the 1st drive, making it 20 bucks cheaper AND buy a 2nd drive for the new lower price. They told me you can only use the coupon one time per person but they would give me the credit on y existing purchase and credit my credit card. I am thinking of having my son use the coupon to get me the 2nd drive, it is a 2tb drive with coupon for only 90 bucks, and I will just pay him back! AND as I said it is identical to the one I already have making it exactly what I need for my future raid setup.

Keith I like the recipe.

Swiftmallard it just means more pumpkin stuff for the rest of us!!

The wife has already made a batch. She used pumpkin that she cooked down herself...none of that store-bought stuff! Tastes pretty good, although kinda gooey. She cooked it as long as the recipe called for and then added some more time. I think the 'real' pumpkin filling needed longer cooking time. Also, for some reason (perhaps the filling), the recipe says to refrigerate after baking.

The recipe says you can get 016 in a batch. That's good enough for me!

John my rac today is only 433,076 because I backed up my wife's pc yesterday, it took several hours for her D: drive, the one with all the pictures on it, but it only took a little over an hour to do her C: drive. She is now happy and if I can get her to get my son to order the 2nd 2tb drive I can also get the enclosure and do the Raid thing so I can then back up the back up. Hey I almost forgot I am also backing up my external drive for another pc, that thinks it is going to take 34 hours in all to do but I am hoping it will take less. I just checked it remotely and it is going to take another 12 hours and it has already been almost 24 hours, all with NO Boinc running on it. And of course it is a machine with a 5770 in it.

My guess for today is 200

I upgraded the graphics card too, with an ATI HD 4650. I hope everything will work, this should be a good cruncher.

First, let me say your guesses have been good. Several times someone has had the first digit correct. The closest anyone got to the actual, before today, was about 25. Today someone missed it by 12. And two guesses for today missed pervious days numbers by 2, although they don't count now. Maybe someone should figure out what number they would guess 5 days from now and use that number today.

We almost had the same number again today, as the last game had me stumped for a while. The first play failed. I put it down for th night and then this morning I played again going slower, got stuck as my choices seemed to lead me down the same path I took before. Then after some careful studing of the cards, I found one move that made a difference and slowly with difficulty was able to make progress until it was solved. It was one of those games were you had to make those choices that at first didn't seem too helpful. It only took 2 tries which i was really surprised after getting stuck the first time through. My worst is 5 tries for a game. Best sreak was 22 wins in a row and i'm at about 85% for wins vs games played.

So the game RESETS now with a new number.

Oh well, since I've stumped you again, I win another brownie. And if you think there are two left, you're wrong, as another batch is baking in the oven as I type. Yes, these are so good a repeat was demanded.

As for the brownies, I think they are so tasty. There is however a problem with the recipe. You'll have to read it and the comments other people left to understand. The line in the directions says "Make brownies according to directions on box, using [some measurements]. What seems to have confused other people, i guess, is the measurements given. I guess they are not the same as on the box for the mix they used. Now my problem is I used a different brand brownie mix, Sorry Betty, But I had to use what I had on hand. My mixes had both "cake like" and "fudgey" directions, so I mixed both batches according to the fudgey directions on the boxes, each was different, ignoring those given in the recipe. The first batch came out what I would call perfect. The first batch came out what i would call perfect, the second I don't know about as they are still baking, but it looked to go together ok. The other comments people left helped me in making my decision. Plus be careful to use 3 oz cream cheese, it says 1 package, but I buy the 8 oz bars and almost stuck in 8 oz, I guess there is a mini bar, but I needed to use what I already had. Also it say 1/2 cup of pumpkin, not 1/2 can. Only problem is now i've got 2oz cream cheese left and maybe another 1/2 cup pumpkin. I'd be tempted to make these again, but try 4oz cream cheese and 1/2 can of pumpkin, only so it uses up all of both after two batches.

The other problem is the recipe says it amkes 16. I only got 9 brownies ? Sory I like brownies, not finger nibbles.

Keith, if I recall correctly, some of the Freecell games do NOT have solutions. However, not having played all of them I can't say for sure.

The batch my wife made is great regardless of what directions were meant to be followed. I guess to be on the safe side I'll go read some of the comments.

I got 12 from the batch by cutting them in a 3x4 pattern.[/edit]

I am guessing the gpu will go onto Collatz too? That is a good place for it, although I get more credits from Dnetc. NOT by a lot though, only about 10k over 150k. in other words I am getting 160k for my 5770 card on Dnetc but was only getting 150k at Collatz. My 4670 gpus are getting around 35 to 40k per day at Dnetc, Collatz should be similar, I do not have a 4650 to compare sorry.

JohnC my rac today is only 423,429, it went down because I forgot about the backup and thus forgot to turn Boinc back on until this morning!! The backup finished just fine though on my main basement pc, I still have the C: drive to go, but it shouldn't take too long. I talked to my son yesterday and he is going to buy the new 2tb drive for me, I had asked my wife to do it but she just did not do it!! I will of course reimburse him for the costs.

Keith I am ready for the brownie now, so my guess today is 050

Keith, if I recall correctly, some of the Freecell games do NOT have solutions. However, not having played all of them I can't say for sure.

Yeah, but it is something like 5 out of the 1 million games. There are cheat sheets all over the web, i've used them on one game before.

I use 9, becuase my spatula is 3 inches wide, so it is easy to mark off a 3 x 3 grid in the 9 inch pan.

speaking of brownies, which use vegetable oil in the recipe, of which I just emptied a bottle, I went to the web to look that up for some reason. Sometimes I get curious about things, what they are, where they come from.

Anyway the search brought up "vegetable oil as fuel" link. We talked about that before. Apparently if you own a diesel you can use the oil as fuel. It needs to be filtered and it needs to be preheated before going into the engine. They recommend a seperate tank and a switch so you can use either fuel, and put a heat exchanger for preheating between the oil tank and the engine. The cost however to modify your vehicle is about $1200 bucks. It might only make sense to do if you could get free used oil from local businesses. But the mess it makes handling might turn most people away. Interesting concept.

I had to do a lot of work yesterday to get this box running again. Things really started looking up when, in a desperate move, I moved the SATA cable for the hard drive from port 0 to port 2. That gave me an option in the BIOS, an option about the drive, that had not been there before. I made certain it was enabled, started over from scratch and everything went pretty well since. I made certain to get all the updated drivers for everything. The 4650 seems to generate about a thousand credits an hour running Collatz.

No winning today, in fact i'm getting ripped off again.

I went to KMart, after not shopping there for 7 months. I use to shop there a lot, but they ring up prices wrong a lot, well it was more they are marked wrong on the shelves. So I gave up. After 1 year of not shooping there, i decided to give them another try, and got ripped off. I left a mesaage somehow that got to the manager, then had a face to face talk with him. one week later they had prices marked wrong still. So i stopped shoppng there again. Now today after a 7 month break, they ripped me off again. This time they didn't give me credit for all my coupons. There is a double coupon thing today too and I had 4 coupons totaling $8 and when I got home there is only a single $2 coupon doubled. I called the manager on the special numebr he gave me, only to find out he is not there anymore, so I spoke to the new manager. Glad the old guy is gone, hope the new manager fixes the problems. I might not ever shop there again, with a 100% rip off rate i'd rather pay higher prices even to not have the aggrivation. I'm suppose to go in tomorrow and they will give me back the wrong difference, but its time out of my schedule, a special stop. Its not worth it.

The game RESETS.

I don't think though i'll have a brownie, Kmart has me pretty upset. I know it shouldn't, but it has. I think next time I go in, I'll have to carry a notepad with me, write down every item and the price, total it, compute the tax, deduct the coupons and at checkout if the total is not the same, hold up everything and get the manager on the phone right there. It's the thought of what you have to go through. I remember shopping at Kmart, not this one, back in the late 70's when I was a kid still. Everything had a price on it. it was easy to figure out. Now everything is computerized. as much as I like computers, they sure foul things up, only because the programmers don't seem to make them function easily, especially because probably they never ran a checkout. Before I fly off the handle some more, Good Night.

Which is why individual items don't have prices anymore nor do some of the shelves even, I HATE THAT!! I want to KNOW what I am going to pay for an item BEFORE I get to the checkout!

JohnC my rac today is 430,664, so it did go up yesterday with me doing no backups. I only have a few more to do but will probably put them off for a few more days to let the rac go up some more first.

Swiftmallard I am glad you finally got it working!!! 1k rac per hour is VERY GOOD!!

Keith I stopped going to Kmart when they came out of bankruptcy, I used to own stock and the reason they bought Sears is because they voided all that outstanding stock making it worthless and giving them a ton of cash flow!! I will NOT go back, I do not like shopping at Sears anymore either, although I do buy some things from Sears but only on sale items and only if I need them.

Today the winning guess from me is 123 which will make me the WINNER!!

I rarely go to Kmart either. The main reason being the check-out lines. It's not because they are inaccurate, but because they are soooo slooowww!

Michigan has a law that says if the scanned price is lower than the shelf price, you get the scanned price. If the scanned price is higher than the shelf price, you get refunded the difference PLUS 10x the difference as a penalty to the retailer...up to $5. That's a big incentive to keep the prices correct.

The winning number is currently 863.

I stopped at Kmart on the way home. Thought it was going to be a big hasstle, but it was not much of a deal. It did take 12 minutes of waiting in line, explaining the issue and for the person to figure out how to issue a refund.

I had $8 in coupons, of whcih 3 were suppose to be doubled. Somehow only one got doubled so I only got $4, leaving $7 owed me. I did get that and tax back today, so i guess its ok. But i'm not extremely happy.

What is the bad part is they just give you your money back and shout "next". They do not make any record of the person that caused the problem, so there is no reconing.

Also its sad when there is one check out line, and 2 customer service lines open.

I don't think i'll shop there that much. Every time I give them another chance, they blow it.

But I do have some special coupon that gives me 5000 points on my rewards card for buying one store brand item and also next sunday is some special event 10% off on a lot of stuff and 20% off clothing, so I may wander over.

So the game RESETS with a new number.

I get the last brownie from the first batch. This leaves 9 more chances for someone to win a brownie.

Michigan has a law that says if the scanned price is lower than the shelf price, you get the scanned price. If the scanned price is higher than the shelf price, you get refunded the difference PLUS 10x the difference as a penalty to the retailer...up to $5. That's a big incentive to keep the prices correct.

If only that were nationwide then Keith could make a killing and would ALWAYS be shopping there! ;-))

Oh the real winning number for today is 411

JohnC my rac went up again to 435,987, but I do need to get busy with some more backups soon!

I got a new for me mower last week and when I went to use it oil and gas came out this little hole with no tube on it and what a mess that turned out to be. Fortunately my neighbor let me borrow his so the yard did get mowed in the end. Today though I have to take the bad mower back to the guy that fixed it and 'help him' meaning be a gopher, replace the motor on it. I have not actually bought a mower in several years because of this process but this is the first time it came out badly. I do not pay any money I just give my time and he already has all the parts etc, so it is something to keep him busy and he feels he is helping me out. This is one of my lunch buddies, a former cop.

Here's some INFO for Mikey, you didn't win with that number.

No winners tonight.

the game RESETS now.

While I wait for my sweet potato to bake, it is about the seventh I dug up this year, and there is more to go. One of the plants has a root now as big and think as my thumb. Some og the vines I think are over 25 feet long, hard to tell as the loop here and there around the porch.

Today was more pre-inventory counting. Last month I did all the showroom and parts of the back room, counting all of our merchandise by all vendors except our biggest. That is what I'm working on now. I'll do some every day, I expect to have it all counted and updated into the computer within 2 weeks. This includes tagging all the items in the computer with the location bin code, so that wwhen we do actual inventory at the end of the year, the sheets will list all items we should have.

After dinner, I get another Brownie from the second batch, only 8 left.

Darn and I KNOW I was this close!!!

Keith I have been picking alot of my hot peppers lately and giving them to everyone. I told them they are really mini pumpkins but no one has believed me yet! Yes I do admit they are hot peppers, I have been taking a baggie full of about 20 or so to everyone just so they don't die on the vine! There are still dozens more to pick!!

Today was more pre-inventory counting. Last month I did all the showroom and parts of the back room, counting all of our merchandise by all vendors except our biggest. I used to HATE inventory time, it is one of the few things I actually do not miss by being laid off!!

After dinner, I get another Brownie from the second batch, only 8 left.

Keith if you keep eating those brownies you are going to get too big to do inventory!!

JohnC my rac today is 442,104, so up some more. No more computer shows for right now and the sales ads seem to have settled down to hard drives etc.

The winning number for today is 657

I hope everyone in the US voted yesterday, gives us all bit*hing rights you know!!

JohnC my rac today is only 446,607 because I am starting to replace the files that I lost when my drive got erased. I was downloading Genealogy cd's all day yesterday and still have over 50 to go!! I got somewhere between 30 and 50 yesterday but my program doesn't like to go out and get all those old files from the Newsgroups and then try and keep track of all of them and then download them too, just too many files! So I had to download them, it is an all or nothing thing, then delete some of the ones I am not interested in, then download some of those, wash, rinse and repeat. Time was on my side though and I should finish up today or tomorrow, I LOVE the speed of Verizon FIOS!!!!

My guess today is 616

Sorry but only a short win for you today Randy!

Hey SwiftMallard last night on the Food Network they did a special on cooking pheasants! It was pretty good and they had lots of nice recipes!

JohnC my rac today is 450,854 but again I am still downloading the genealogy stuff so one gpu was off for most of the day. And I miscounted in the numbers I had downloaded the 1st day, it was almost 60 cd's the 1st day and almost as many again yesterday! I did figure out the problems with the program so it is going much faster now. It is taking about 15 minutes to download one 600 meg cd, so my FIOS is doing great I think!

Keith I hope you are doing lots of exercising or you will begin to look like me if you keep eating all those brownies! What was it JohnC said "70 stone"!!

Unless you live in a tropical climate where you can pick them when they're ripe, you have no idea what a good banana tastes like. No wonder you need to dump a bunch of sugar on them to make them edible.

RandyC I had not even thought of that, I was making a play on the address where Keith works, it is 4711, so one day I used 471 and the next day 711, but thanks for 'seeing' what I could not!! Those darn trees keep getting in the way of my seeing the forest sometimes!

JohnC my new rac is 458,908, so up again today, yesterday I didn't do anything to affect it so it was a natural number.

Speaking of numbers I think we are at 008 as the winning number today!

Keith my hot pepper plants are looking pretty sad, they look all droopy and like they need water. But it just finished raining for 2 days so that is not it, I think it is the cold night air, today the high is supposed to only be 48F and it is 38F right now! They are way to big to bring in and they will just die out there and I will start new ones next year. I gave some to my neighbor, he actually tried to eat some!! Big mistake on his part, but he said they worked well when he ground them up and made something to keep the bugs and animals away! He also dried some of the seeds and says he will try and grow them next year. I told him they were just 2 dollar plants from Lowe's but he said 'free is free', so we will see.

As for me I am just WINNING!!

I was pre-occupied last night, so the game RESETS now.

Mikey, yeah my pepper plants don't look great, but they still have peppers growing and some flowering. I will bring mine in soon. Usually the weather hear can stay nice up until into December, i rember one fine December 1st going kayaking in shorts as it was 75F.

I will bring the peppers in, even the ones that are 7 feet tall. They will survive mostly over winter indoors, even if they loose all thier leaves, they still live and will come back in the spring as they did last year. It does take more care to not water them as much, but to not forget to water then either.

I brought the tropical plants in back early October.

I lost two pineapples this summer due to the too extreme heat. The oldeset survived, i think it is 4-5 years old. Never had a pineapple but the plant looks nice anyway.

Alamanda is doing well indoors. Lost a lot of leaves for a while but now has perked back up and still has flowers and growing more leaves and flowers.

I only hope I can get the Sweet Potato plants untabgled and indoors. They did good through the winter last year and now I want to keep them going as they are so big/long.

Besides it makes the indoors look pretty with lots of green during the winter.

Got my storage room cleared out and the leaves raked up. It's been a great weekend! The stuff I wanted to make sure to get done over my upcoming vacation is already done!! That means I really am WINNING! Mrs Mallard is coming up on her 50th birthday so we are taking her to her favorite spot, Duluth, Minnesota, 150 miles north. My daughter works for Hilton Hotels so we got her employee discount on the rooms.

Well shoot me please for being stupid.

I gave KMart one more (7th) chance. They boo-boo'ed yet again. I plead temporariy insanity. I'm cured now, I won't do it again, i promise.

There was a special sale going on today. I wandered around not finding much I wanted. I did buy a few items, about 12 total.

The problems:

One was items are still marked on the shelves with wrong price tags. I almost bought some chap-stick like product labeled "buy one, get one 50% off" then after careful reading of the tag, discovered it was for a differnnet brand and item altogether. Usually the tags are just last weeks expired prices. There were three items in a row marked this way. This has been going on about 3 years now.

Next was the checkout. Long lines, 6-7 people deep, all two open of the 12 available.

One lady left her cart and as she walked out told her childen she was not going to buy that stuff. I'm not the only angry customer.

I finally got to the cashier. She scanned all my stuff. Here in Dare county we use reusable bags because they have outlawed plastic bags, some stores give you a discount, 5 or 6 cents, for every bag you bring and reuse. So when the cashier scanned the bag rebate code, it locked up her register, now needing a reboot. The customer sevice cashier took me over to her register as every thing needed to be rescanned. After a second scan of my items, she had forgot to scan the coupon first for todays one day sale discount. So again all items had to be redone, the third time. Glad I only had 12 and not 50. And I still did not get my bag rebate, but i'm not really upset over a nickel, its all the other poor service.

Oh yeah, immediately before I wrote this, I wrote another complaint letter to kmart.com, saying good-bye after being a loyal 30 plus year customer. Then I canceled my email subscriptions to both kmart and sears and deleted every email from them.

I think I go eat a brownie, maybe that will cheer me up.

@swiftmallard, a typical honey-do list is never complete. If, by some miracle, you complete every single task, another one will magically appear to take its place.

My primary task this weekend (that I paid $103 for a new ladder to reach) was to clean out the gutters. They were a real mess! Oh the aches and pains in muscles unaccustomed to that type of work! To top it all off, I sliced my finger on a sharp piece of metal about 3 minutes before I was finished. Not terribly bad: about 3/8" long and maybe 1/16" deep. Since I haven't had a Tetanus shot in probably 20 years, I now need to schedule a visit to the doctor to get one.

Actually, I'm surprised my hands weren't cut to ribbons a whole lot earlier in the project! Next task: replace the downspout that someone smashed-in with a blunt instrument of some kind.

[edit]Have fun on your trip with Mrs Mallard.[/edit]

The number for Monday morning is 666.

WINNING!!!

Agreed today must be an evil day, I am sore today but don't know why, I didn't do anything yesterday except get up after about 4 1/2 hours of sleep after a night of poker playing with the guys. Then we went to breakfast, did some shopping then came home and watched the F1 race from Brazil on the DVR and then took a nap! I got up had dinner watched some more tv and went to bed and am now up again, so no reason to be sore, the poker game was in a hard chair but we had fun and I did not feel anything afterwards.

JohnC my rac today is 464,299, so up 6k from yesterday mornings. Things are going really well right now, some project must be getting ready to go down again!!

SwiftMallard please tell your wife Happy Birthday for us and I hope you guys enjoy your trip! We had a neighbor just turn 50 also and she got all kinds of gag gifts, depends diapers, anti this and anti that medicines, etc but another neighbor and my wife and I went in together and got her a $60.00 spa treatment that I think she liked alot.

Keith keep making those brownies and we will keep guessing, today my guess is 743 because that is the number on my cable box right this second!

Wasn't that a tv show way back when 'room 222' or something like that about a bunch of high school kids, maybe with John Travolta or am I mixing up Welcome Back Kotter and something else?

JohnC my rac today is 466,170, so only up a little bit today. Turns out Virtual Prairie and Dnetc both under reported yesterday, in fact VP gave NO credits to me yesterday at all and I am usually in the 4k range for them! HMMMM!

The winning number guess for me today is 606 because that is what time it is right now!

Without looking it up on the web,

Yes there was a "Room 222". I seem to remember someone named Karen, real name that is. I think it focused more on the teachers than the kids. I think it was before and gone off before WBK started.

John Travolta was WBK only.

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, Off to work I Go ! Well, another day of bored'em. Sales are slow. my duties for now are counting inventory and fixing the inventory list for the end of the year. i could have been done but i'm pacing myself. Spending some time listing more items that I just counted for sale in out intenet store on amazon. Both are really fun thing to do. Well it keeps me occupied and awake.

Well all those are fine guesses, including those players' had help with.

None were correct though, and I was sure someone would guess this number, because someone guessed it two days ago and I thought they might repeat themselves and win.

Too bad, I get another brownie, only two left now.

As for Mikey's suggestion, keep making brownies, gee i won't loose weight with that one. Actually i'm trying to empty out the pantry of stuff I overbought on sales.

I was doing good by not buying any chips this year, well i did good for many months then had a wee little relapse recently.

I'm, trying to get rid of the brownie and cake mixes too, 2 boxes of brownies and 6 boxes of cake mix to go, well that was before i bought two more boxes of brownie mix on a buy-one get one free deal last week.

oh well the game RESETS now while I go enjoy my treat.

Keith's weight, of course, is measured in a little-known unit of mass called the brownie.

Okay, unlike Indian bookmakers, I have had no outside assistance in selecting 631 as the winning number.

Hmmmm, maybe and then again maybe not, let me think on it....

JohnC my rac today is 473,353 but from the site I usually get it at it is still 466,170. Seems somehow they stopped updating from the feeds! This is from the site Free-DC, I am not sure it is better overall but at least the numbers ARE updating!!

Keith the store is FULL of cake and brownie mixes, just keep on shopping, you might NEVER run out!!! I hear Kmart has some on sale this week?

JohnNeale welcome back to the game, glad you could rejoin us, sorry you aren't winning though!!

I think the number today is 557

I just might be, if my number is the right one. (It strikes me that this incarnation of TLPTPW can be won by someone who isn't TLPTP.)

Here's another guess: 369 (the goose drank wine...)

Actually, not true.

Guessing the winning number is only the TRIGGER for the win. Anybody that posts after the trigger is a possible winner: TLPTPW! Your number may be correct, but since I posted later, I could be the WINNER!!!

Next up: 147

Does that mean since I've eaten 16 brownies, my weight is 16.

No winners yet, I get another brownie.

This leaves only ONE, I wonder who will get it ?

the game RESETS now.

ps
Mikey, FAT chance of me shopping at KMart again, I wouldn't go there if they were giving them away free. I've been telling everyone I see to stay away so they don't get ripped off too and for them to tell all their friends too.

It's looking more and more like Kmart is the GM of the Discount Retail world.

The number for this evening is 810.

Randy, you are of course quite right, and I should learn to read the rules properly before opening my gob! Thanks for correcting me.

820 Jumbo

John, if it's a Jumbo, then the winning number has to be 747!

How about 380 for all the Airbus A380 engine problems lately?

JohnC my rac today is 476,942 and climbing nicely! I sent an email to my usual stats site but they haven't done anything yet. It seems they could be close to shutting down if they aren't going to fix the problems, I can't be the only one experiencing them! They have been begging for money and I have sent them some in the past, but no more!!

JohnNeale those pesky rules do seem complicated, until you read them, and I think you just have to go with the flow, Keith will let us know who wins and when! Hopefully it will be ME!!!

Could be, Mikey; the A380 is known as the superjumbo, although the Boeing 747 is the original jumbo jet.

Let's try 124 for the Antonov An-124, a jumbo-sized Russian cargo carrier.

Oh what good guesses, but none are korrect, which is agood thing because I already ate the LAST Brownie.

We had some good guesses today, since todays number was 047.

I was worried that when 512 came up, someone would win, especially after a previous guess of 256, all someone had to do was double their answer.

I think the klosest guess on the korrect day missed the number by 3.

The only matching number the whole game, although it was on the wrong day was 753.

This ends the magic number game, which by coincidence ends the game.

The WINNER is John Clark.

Thanks RandyC for the kongratulations, and to Krunchin for the accolade.

What do we do now?

Is it for Keith to start a new thread or do I guess a number/post number and start the competition again?

Please leave your answers in a plain brown envelope behind the potted plant, and all the beer and kookies in the clean trashcan on the decking.

I am off to sleep now so it will be about 08.00am tomorrow (UTC) before I am back here.

CONGRATULATIONS on your win JohnC

As for starting the next game you, Keith, me or anyone else willing will do it can do it, since you won the last(this) game you are normally the person to start the next game though. Starting the game means you can't win, so some people prefer to let someone else do it. What I do is just go back to the first post of this thread and then start a new thread with the same info pasted in, only changing the number of wins each person has. You do not need to tell anyone else anything, but you do need to pick a number of posts, a day and time combination, something that you can easily remember as to when the game ends. I have seen games go more than a thousand posts, I have seen games end on the 1st post, it is all up to you. I have run games that ended the day before I went on vacation, just so I wouldn't have to worry about them while I was away. When I was in the fire department my badge number was 159, I have ended games after that many of posts. The choice is yours as to what to do next.
