Nice one Randy!!! I have always thought there MUST be a way to store all that energy and then send it back out thru the power lines! I KNOW they can already MAKE lightening strike in the same place many, MANY times, why not store it and send it back out for the rest of us to use? I am NOT saying it would be easy, new stuff never is, but man that is ALOT of wasted energy!!! Randy you could power your car for a whole YEAR on just one bolt!!

Wild, and a good interesting photo Randy

It originally came from NASA-Astronomy Photo of the Day and was taken because of the orangish dot near center-1/4 down from top. That's a lunar eclipse in-progress.

What a fun day.

Started off to some cooking and then saw the palnts so i went to water them. So some needed to move some as they were not getting direct sun anymore, I wish that thing would stop moving. So i needed a table from the garage. This was accomplished but then I thought i'd bring up that cabinet I built in junior high wood shop instead of using it as a kayak support. That too got accomplished but then i had to rearrange boxes to hold the kayak up. At the same time i found a box full of clothing, not worn in 15 years now. All still good but i had used it as packing around some framed pictures when i moved, duh, it was suppose to be temporariry. I'm a little slow at unpacking. Found also some pillows my mother had made. So all that came upstairs for cleaning off and finding new locations for, the clothing i'll wash and see if it still fits, or now fits again. Too bad though it was all long pants. If they fit at least i won't have to go close shopping again for another long while as i've go too many already. So now it is 3hours later and I didn't get to cooking yet. During the rearrangeing i put two piles of old magazines i nthe car for taking to work for shreading to use as packing material. I also decided to take to recycling, probally good stuff, but it is at least 15 years old. A laser printer and a 14 inch crt monitor. Heck they probally use more electricity than a new faster, bigger, lighter model would cost. I'ee got other stuff but i think it is time to say it is scrap. Heck, your dumb phone is proabbly smarter than that laser printer. It was big and heavy and tyo change fonts it had plug in 8 track size cartridges, 1 per font i think. I could only afford 3 at the time. I got rid of a bunch of cables too that were all dried up and cracking.

Enough work for one day, this is suppose to be a day off.

Winning though as i cleared a hole, about 2 square feet. Now about 98 more to go.....

No resting 'ere YET.

Started out with more garage duty. Since i made a hole yesterday, i thought to rearrange a few things. I ened up decided to scrap some old furniture. Two vcr tape storage cabinets and two glass door stereo component shelf units. This enlarged the hole. Restack, restack, restack. Threw out some other old stuff I no longer care to save. Got rid of a box and unpacked the china, saving all the 1997 newspaper for use at work in packing orders. Now all the china is stacked in the hallway waiting to be washed. I'll work on that slowly over the next week, then fingure out where to put it. Also found 3 paltes with old autos on the from 1900, 1902 and 1903. I believe they are actually that old belonging to one of the grnadparents, will have to quiz dad on that. Found another afgan my mother made. The car is full of stuff to go to recycling or work for reuse. Now washing those pants I found yesterday amd my dirty clothes from today. Took a shower, now to relax a while and rest my eye.

I can't see straight so to me you look you're walking in a straight line.

Break time. I'm tired. Well I've managed to process 14 orders this morning so far. I'm at 81.49% of my quotta, this being mid month, I should be at least at 50%, so it looks like i'm way ahead.

- Todays's dolalr sales for those is equal to all of last week. Me thinks this is a new record.

I go to the docs tomorrow. I'm hoping glasses fix me, but i'm tired of working at this pace and don't think I can take another day of this, much less 15 more years.

Actually I have not touched a drop since (not so) good friday.

Doctors visit covered by medical except I had to pay $25.
Glasses however are another story since my eyes still have focusing problems. I got 2 perscriptions. One for long distance with progressive lenses so i can read some if needed. The other is reading only glasses since i do that like 9 hours a day at w*&k and then sometimes several hours at home. I got two pair of those so I can keep one each location and not have to carry them back and forth all the time. I also got the frames with memomory metal and they are lighter, the lenses too. Total 800 bucks. These however will not be ready until tomorrow for one pair, then maybe friday for the others. They are going to do one pair of the reading glasses first so maybe tomorrow i'll be able to get them and at least get though one day.

I hear ya about the reading glasses! I've got one pair at work and a pair for home too. I wear bi-focals (not progressive) when I'm not on the computer. problem is...I frequently get-up and walk away from the desk wearing my 'computer eyes' and have to go back and swap them after I figure out why everythings so fuzzy.

I'm not that bad. I can see somewhat without any glasses. Things might be fuzzy but i can see enough to walk straight, find the frig and a cold drink.

I only really need the progressive pair for watching tv or driving and only had them made progressive so that if i do need to read something, like while shopping i can and not have to carry two pairs with me.

The reading glasses will be for day to day computer work and other things too, as they should be good out to maybe 5-6 feet and i figured why not two pair so i don't ahve to lug them abck and forth and then not worry about if i forgot them at home or work and go abck to get them.

Now on that note I had a talk with the boss man today. We came to an aggreeemnt and a lot of the usless paperwork I do will not be done anymore by me or anyone else. I was doing what he wanted 30 years ago, but that is not as important and he let me do it because he thought I liked it. Some of the other work that was done on paper and then given to me to computerize will not be done by me. I came close to departing today, and as i told him i'm not going to sit there going blind doing paperwork and computerizing records no one looks at. Why do we have an inventory that noone looks up any inforamtion in the computer. So now all receiving paperwork is eliminated. I do some billing and shipping. All manual sales are someone elses to do. No more inventories. A lot less record keeping. We wants to cut out internet sales and we kind of agreed to let things slowly decline and not just a complete cut off, so that too reduces some work while still clearing out some of the inventory. So a lot of what I did won't be necessary. If he changes his mind, i'll depart. I can't take it anymore. I can get by without him and find other work if i need to. So for now I still have a job and some Benefits. I do however expect to retire within 5 years.

I hope i get a pair of glasses tomorrow. i've been going home early almost every day before i completely burn out.

See ya'll tomorrow

Are your eyes so bad that a pair of cheap 'readers' won't help anymore? If you eyes are still similar to each other than, like me, you can still live with cheap generic 'reader' glasses. I have probably 6 pair of those now positioned everywhere! I ALSO have 4 pair of prescription glasses, from various years, positioned around too. I have one pair of just distance glasses at my bed as all I do is sleep and watch tv there, but I have a pair of tri-focals in the bathroom for 'reading time'. I have a pair of distance/reading glasses near the downstairs tv in my lazyboy chair because I need the readers when there sometimes. I also have a pair of middle distance and readers down in the basement by my computers so I can sit there. Then I have several pairs of generic 'readers' in the kitchen that I either put on my shirt when I go out, use to cook with, read the mail etc, etc etc. I am never too far from a pair of glasses as I just cannot read stuff up close anymore!! For Xmas I was even given a pair of the readers that the medical examiner on CSI:NY wears, they are magnetic and clip together in the center, they are SOOOO cool! The only problem is you need two hands to take them off and put them aroudn your neck. I only need my distance lenses to read things on the tv, I am still fine on hi-way signs, so none for driving at least not yet anyway!

No each eye is different, near sighted in left, far sighted in right.

I got my first pair of reading glasses. Uhh i'm dizzy. This is like looking through two magnifying lenses, my depth perception is a little off. The doc got the perscription exact though, at arms length where my screens are, everything is crisp, but if i move back 6 inches, its gone. everything in the distance is real blurry now with them on so at my desk i have a limited view of arms length. They also had a problem making these, so when the other pairs are ready maybe monday, they will remake this pair no extra charge. My widescreens though are a little too wide, i think i have to adjsut and move my eye slowly if i go too fast side to side i get dizzy.

Well we made some other paperwork changes. Today after getting my glasses i started my orders, did 3 in like 12 minutes, instead of 12 minutes each. I'm done. This also eliminated retypeing the address twice and making the invoice, instead i use the invoice that i can print from amazon. Accounting totals will be added together at the end of the month, no individual records now for each transaction necessary into our big system, eliminating lots of duplciate-triplicate work and a lot less typing. Saveing my eyes and my wrist.

Now on to some other paperwork backlog, i'd estimate that this is noramally a 3 hour pile. we'll SEE what I come at. It's gonna be a lot less.

Got through a day without an eyegrainheadache. First time now in 13 days.

But, i like my old glasses better. The new ones show me too much dust around the house.

And the memory-metal doesn't work, I thought it would make my boss look smarter, it doesn't.

I SEE I'M WINNING !!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

Keith I am glad the glasses are helping! Make sure they fix the bad ones, give them a good workout, if they are off you will be living with that for a long time to come!! Also you might want to call the eye doc and see if you are still supposed to be dizzy when spinning your head.

No Keith, memory metal only works if it makes direct contact with the brain. Try plugging the ends in those holes on the side of your head rather than laying them on top of the floppy things that surround the holes. j/k

They already said they we're going to give me another pair. They only gave me this pair as they knew i really-really needed them. It's not the seeing part of the lens that is messed up. The lenses were too thin and when they ground them they got real thin on the edges where the frame holds them. They are getting thicker lenses and then the new pairs will more sturdy.

I have been able to see better today. I should have a new pair of reading glasses and my long distance progressive pair on moanday, then within a few more days the second pair of reading glasses.

Everything is so much crisper, not gray but very dark blacks now. Colors are more vibrant. A lot of those icons on my desktop or smart phone I can see small details, some of them before were just 2 color blobs and i thought that was they way they were. The one on my smart phone for the internet is actually a globe, blue and green with 3 circles orbiting around it. Kool.

On another note. We are in the process of setting up a new workstation for quickbooks access for the other guys, not me, to use. I ordered a computer and led screen today. Just got a bsic unit. hint hint, two core and some kind of small power ati graphics. should be boincable.

I also found a way to reduce greatly the paperwork i have to do for internet orders and talked the boss into keeping our internet presence. Order processing time has dropped from 12 minutes to 4 minutes each. Yes he had me doing way to much double entry usless work and it took only 8 years to get the point across. So anyway today i ordered some more stock. Sales ended today at 100.41% of quotta. Still six weekdays to go and two weekends. I think i should break the high for this year and maybe even last year. So far this month is in 4th place but it's moving up fast. I did double this week of last week. Next week since fianlly i'll have more time in my schedule i look more at inventory and SEE what else i should reorder.

WINNING on PAYDAY !!!

The construction company called and said they want to start on the driveway Monday if the weather is good. They say it takes four days to 'cure', and since my wife and I are going out of town next Saturday that makes it iffy whether we can put her car back in the drive before we leave. I'll get one of my daughters to move it if they tell us it won't be firm enough by Saturday.

My driveway is quite long and I've always wondered just how big it was. I know now: it's $13,186 long in concrete. And that's with a 20% discount for repeat business (they did my gutters). It comes to 125' from street to garage plus 12' wide by the street widening to 17' when it gets to the garage. But it should last as long as I plan on owning the house ('til I retire).

Relaxing some more.

Today i planned to go out and dod some plant stuff, and take some old potatoes i had thrown into the compost bucket which sprouted and are beginng to grow green stalks, put those in the ground ....

...but... it is raining a cold drizzly rain. So i'm stuck indoors.

I had to move my email, i only use webmail but the one i'm using from some work stuff is going to go away as we change and upgrade out internet from the phone company which now has a max of 10M to the Cable company. We're gonna start at 30M but can upgrade to 50 or 100 if we need to. I've got 30-60 at home and can upgrade to 100 too while the phone dsl for my house is stuck at 3. What do the expect, cable has far exceed phone lines and the phone company has made no improvements in the last two years or more. They loose customers. Our phones at work are also going to be coming in on the cable now too. So i switched my email boxes to our other work emails which are part of our domain, so they should be around a while. Good thing about me having my own domain and alias email addresses, i have to notify no-one, i just reroute the final destiantion and all my email shows up in the new box. Then also i have to change the accounts on my smart phone so it reads the new boxes, but that is easy too.

I've got 5 internet orders for tomorrow so far. Under my new processing reduced paperwork job, i should be able to do those in say 20 to 30 minutes, which would beat my old record of about an hour and the 3 hours when i was working half blind. I thing too, because some are more dollars, i might have exceeded the sales from last weekend, making it my best weekend, i'm sure i'll get some more before tomorrow morning.

Are they giving you a guarantee? I had my driveway done, a simple double wide one about 30 to 40 feet long, straight with a 20 degree, or more, slope. The old driveway had cracked down one side and they said the new 'stuff' in the concrete would make it so it wouldn't do that anymore AND they would leave the old driveway pieces as much as they could to pack to it down real well, 3 weeks later it cracked and they said 'there wasn't enough fill material, sorry'. I spend half what you did and STILL have a cracked driveway!!! When the plumbers built my house they put the water meter on one side of the driveway and the pipe enters into my home on the other side, so the water pipe goes right under my driveway, as it does for every other home in my area. EVERY driveway, in my area, has cracked as the original builder didn't want to break the pipe so he didn't compact the ground after putting in the water pipe! This has resulted in many driveways having HUGE gaps under them as the ground settled over the years. Houses are SUCH a pain!!!

Keith I am glad the glasses are helping! AND that the internet sales are staying, I am surprised that the boss wants to get rid of a moneymaker like that?! Keith one question...when you get an internet sale does the 'form' come in so that you can cut and paste the info onto a mailing label making it easier to mail out? Also do you know how many internet customers are repeat customers? And lastly...do you email the internet customers, or just create accounts, in the database, just in case they ever come back?

No it is all done online. I pack item, click "print packing list" and it prints the order [everything automatically filled in]. Then i verify items and quantities shipped and then to the shipping step, enter weight, select USPS box type and it prints the label [everything automatically filled in]. stick paper in box, seal box, stick label on. done. That is if i ship USPS Priority mail. If i ship UPS for larger heavy items i'll need to reneter address in the ups system. That is about 1 out of 50 orders now. A few orders from our webstore don't print labels so i have to use the usps online tool and cut-n-paste address but that goes pretty quick, that is about 3 out of 50 orders. I'm still pushing them to change that and i don't see why thye can't since both order types, form my webstore and from amazon process in the same back-end area for my account.

But before he had me re-recording all the sales in our system to keep inventory straight, so I had to read the name and address, enter it twice in our system one for mailing address, once for shipping address plus enter other data. then start an invoice, select customer, retype the items and prices and print our invoice then finish the steps above. This extra work took me 6 extra minutes, 12 when i could not see the best. I could do some of that cut-n-paste, but it was easier and quicker to just read and retype.

I do some minumal information in my spreadsheet only for the internet sales. That is just item, and sales amounts. So i can use that for a monthly internet report and all he now needs is the total dollars sold so he can merge that info with our system info and with the quickbooks info. Yeah we now have 3 sales systems, but it eliminates a huge amount of work on me since we don't ahve another bookkeeper person, sales clerks or the like. And i no longer have to redo other peoples work, they will hand write it and give it to the boos man now for him to do. I was doing like computer entry work of 5 people. So now we have no computer invenory count, so also i do not have to enter a po, then a receiver, then a papyables invoice for prices. I just verify the prices against the inventory items. That should cut down monday's mad pile of paperwork from 3 hours to less than 1 hours. There is some billing in it but that can be done directly skipping a lot of the steps.

This week will be interesting, i'll let you know. But i've also got to install that new computer, network it, attache it to quickbooks, set up a printer. So this week has extra work in it but i think i'll have some free time in my schedule to do it.

It was a better day. Yes I still have to unlearn old habits and learn how to make the new routine smooth sailing.

But yes, when i got into the actual orders, it took about an hour to do 10 of them and i was not trying to set a speed record, but that was a record time. Later in the day when i got a pile of paperwork it was not as big as usual and it went really quickly so it was hard to judge how much faster it went.

When I came home my eyes were not tired and I was able to do things on my computers without falling asleep, first time in 8 years.

Now for some record setting. 2 weeksago I sold X dollars in one week. Then on the weekend i sold about sme X dollars so on the weekend i did what the a week before. Then more was sold during the week and I was as XX. This past weekend I sold XX plus a little more. Now i've got more orders over night plus still this week and 1 more week end to break the record month, of which i'm like I think the overnight sale will break over so this month is going to be best internet sale month ever.

I told the boss 3 times yesterday to order more stuff as I kept selling the last of some things. Some of them only came into stock 4 days ago. And on those 11 stereos we got on the 7th, there are 4 left.

I SEE I'm WINNING !!!

You need to show your boss some Revenue and Profit figures on how well (bad?) the internet store is doing. You can be selling gangbusters, but not making any profit on it, which may be why he's not pushing it. On the other hand, if the profit is real good he might be willing to do more orders.

Right now I'm the one who's...

No he wanted to close it becuase he though it was wasting time. It was in paperwork but after our discussion on what was important, it is not wasting time anymore. The reduction in all paperwork has made a difference. He has see nthe figures, but in reality the internet sales is 1% of our business. However I do sell a lot of old and really old stuff and that frees up cash flow. Also it is a good "free" ish advertising thing as those people may call us when thier stuff breaks for repairs. After our talk he is fine with it. The profit is profit, not a loss. It could be better but internet competition you often have to sell low. You make up for it in volume. The volume is also growing, as of now i've already sold about 1/2 of what i sold last year, and this is only month 4 of the year. With good prices and selection plsu good service, we constantly get more orders. More free time for me, means more time to maintain the online stores and add new things. More things to sell means more sales.

I am also now to process orders fast than they come in. Instead of being overrun by paperwork. Gotta go UPS showed up finally.

Construction ALWAYS seems to do that! Have a safe trip and don't worry about, it isn't like you can do anything about it anyway. You picked a good guy and hopefully he will now do a good job, enjoy the trip! Besides it gives me more time to WIN!!

Keith if you aren't tried when you come home you aren't working hard enough! At least that is what the bosses think!! Instead of working hard I have always preferred the steady approach, I try not to work fast or slow, just keep a steady pace that lets me get the work done by the end of the day.

SwiftMallard I had a home sleep study done 3 weeks ago now, it came back that I will be getting a CPAP machine, seems I snore ALOT and stop breathing too!! I had to put some wires and sensors on me and then sleep with a box on my stomach all night long. The test showed I stop breathing up to 48 times an hour and that at times my O2 levels dropped to 54%, normal O2 is in the 90 some percentile!! No wonder I am sleepy when I wake up and have a headache! The next thing is to go for a test to determine the ideal air pressure for me, that is May 5th and is an overnight test in a 'sleep center' where they wire you up and hook you up to a CPAP machine and it varies the pressures all night long, looking for the best one for you. CPAP is just a constant air pressure machine, keeping the airways open and providing some air pressure to keep you from snoring.

I am DEFINITELY WINNING!!!

Mikey, you should try sleeping on your side instead of your back; that stops most people from snoring. If your head/neck is uncomfortable, try using two pillows for more support.

Looking at the stuff they've dug up I can see why the old driveway was so bad--the asphalt was only 1 1/2 to 2" deep. No wonder it cracked and had dips all over.

Well, I'm liking my new job duties.

I still come in between 8 and 9, it's a hard habit ot break. So I did a few things causualy, then started my orders at 9:01am. Finished now at 9:59 am. Did 6 plus answered 2 phone calls and processed 1 next day arrival. Not bad. Now I've got to re-order more stuff. We didn't re-order some stuff yesterday, as we thought it would take a while for this new product to take off. Since the 13th when they arrived, i sold 2 of the 5 pieces, so we had 3 left, until last night when i sold all 3 of those. My sales this month have hit 155% of quotta (average of ytd sales) and is also about triple last years average. This moves into the 5 digit range, a first for my monthly sales. This month is the best month out of 29.

Well, the foundation is all laid in for the driveway. City is due to come and inspect it today. The construction people told my wife that they weren't working this weekend so the concrete won't be poured until Monday. That means I'll be able to walk on it when I'm back from Oklahoma on Wednesday (leave Saturday after lunch), but can't drive/park on it until the following week.

I'll fix that and take over the WINNING.

Hey I can see better. Have both my pairs of readers and they work good as long as I don't try to look across the room, as anything out past arms length is blurry. Got my other progressive glasses. They were giving me problems so I went back today, thinking they would have to raise my ears and lower my nose. It was more simple by them adjusting the fit by bending the frames, ear rests and adjusting the nose rest spacing. They are working better since now my pupils line up with the sweet spot.

Lunch is ready

Home from w@^k and looking over the driveway. I seems they only poured half the driveway...split right down the middle. I'm guessing they planned it that way so they could take the wood forms off the middle divide so they wouldn't be embedded in the middle of the concrete. They'll finish up on Monday I guess.

WINNING!!!

@Randy, Good luck on that. Lets hope there was not a concrete shortage. Now I bet you wish you had that mini car instead of that big honking cadilac.

Me is home too. Time to relax for the weekend. Got some plant care to do tomorrow now that I can see those little buggers.

One more thing on internet sales. I broke all my records. About 3pm today I was at 166% of average. Best month ever, yet it's not over. The some more orders came in before the end of day. One for another stereo and one for a high dollar item equal to about 6.66 stereos), so all in all i'll be over 200%. And then there is still this weekend to sell stuff. This month is even getting close to being double last month ! i only wanted to beat it, 112% needed, and maybe beat the best month which is about 133%. I guess i did that. Now only hard thing will be to top this month. I got the boss man ordering stuff faster than he can think.

Now one more thing. I was setting up our quickbooks on our new computer. It said like 15-20 minutes to install yet I think it took 3-5. We just got a multi user license so i had to do this, then set it up on the bosses and another computer. it took way over 20 minutes on the bosses and the other one crashed twice after 20 minutes each time and i never got it instaleld. Umm, this i think means the boss will approve some more new computers that are faster (with some hidden boinc kunchin' power). Especially too since he just ordered cable internet and phone for us, repalcing the phone company's dsl at 10M (max) with 30M cable which can be upgraded to 60M or 100M. Faster intertnet requires faster computers, right. I WIN.

Now to that relaxing....

That is how my driveway is split, right down the middle BOTH lengthwise AND sideways!!! Those are 'expansion joints' they are supposed to allow the concrete to warm up and cool down and not crack as one huge honking slab might. As I said mine already did so it doesn't always work.

Keith CONGRATULATIONS on your internet sales!! Maybe it will continue for a while and you guys will be among the first to start the economic recovery!!

Yeah, I hope the internet sales continue. I kind of like doing that and can get some more of the other work off me so i can maintain the store and build it up. It is easier and more enjoyable now without a lot of the retypeing of info, just print out and pack up, it occupies some time and keeps me busy. Then too i like doing the lsiting and website creation stuff, being constructive. One day I hope to be a real manager and have people below me, so far I only manage myself and that's hard sometimes as I talk back.

Got a couple more small orders overnight. One for some more leftover pieces. Even though those are high dollars, they actually have more profit in them. A lot of the leftover pieces we have don't really cost us anything, we made money and profit on the sale of whatever they came off of. If we threw them out it would be no loss really. Keeping them around though in hopes one day you'll need one and can sell it for an extra few bucks and not have to buy another new one. This has been working for the internet sales and also it makes me feel good i've been able to supply people with those ahrd to find things and solve thier problems.

Actually our business is on the rise again, finally. Funny you should mention the economy, usually when there is a downturn, we are the first to loose out as our business is mostly one of those "Luxuaries". also it is the last to come back.

Well now on to home work. I've got a lot of piled up stuff i put aside when i could not see straight. I worked through a lot last weekend. I'll do some more today as it is overcast.

Here is one thing i found, my daignosis and here are the terms the i-doc circled.

Well I agree on that this time.

Trying to turn the twins back on. Two is OK. One has been giving me problems. Yadda Yadda Yadda and three hours later with no luck, i'm reinstalling winedows from the recover option, which says after this i have to reinstall all my apps. It is still "preparing to start", huh, that must be like "fixin' to get ready" ?

My mood is a gray as the sky.

Good thing that is only a backup system, but i had a lot still on it as abckup apps and i don't want to redo them all. I might actually have a backup somewhere but with all my other problems i don't know where that stuff is or even how old one is. I think it will get bopinc again and that is all. The two data drives will still be ok. But i'm not going to reinstall a bunch of apps that i may never use again at this point. They all stil lare on numebr two, but now the twins don't act like twins anymore.

And i've already eaten all the chocolate eggs which would help improve my mood if i had one more.

Yep, i'm not winning today.

oh,
and get this. one of the cd drives on this i thought was broke as it would not open, has been stuck shut like 2 years. Somehow it opened while i was doing stuff. Now if i close it it opens again, it won't stay closed.

Well, I broke your winning streak, how about that for breaking something.

Sales report
Best weekend ever, beat last weekend by a small amount, but that weekend was double the previous and the previous was double the one before it.
Last month, 2nd best month before now was 103% of average.
This month, I almost doubled last month, hitting 188% of average and this now is the best month ever.
Goal, to exceed this months sales next month
This next 2 week payout ending in 2 days is going to exceed all of last months sales.
My total sales for this year have gone over half of last year so far and almost exceeded the total amount of the previous year.
All I see is the numbers going up, up and away.

Duh, WINNING

I do order some stuff on my own, no signature or even verbal authorizationg needed, other stuff I leave up to him as he also orders stuff he needs for jobs and what he thinks the showroom needs for stock, so it is combined orders. Plus telling him reconfirms how much I sell.

Well it's May, whre does all the time go ?

No fun here.

Today i'm starting a full recoery on twin1. This said it wiped the disk and restores windows from scratch. The partial recovery didn't work and windows never booted up. If i get this going again then there is going to be some driver updates and i'm sure a gazillion windows updates 'cause this is like a 2005ish version on the recovery partition. Then install at least boinc again.

I guess too i need to apply updates here to the other unit that was off for 3 months. That's not too bad, only 6.

At some point soon too I will have to upgrade my boincs clients on all my machines.

Then there is the work project. I've got i new Dell i570 computer setup. Two more comping and after those two i get two new ones. So then after they are all set there is things to do with the old ones to repalce even oldder ones. I still have at least one 2004 type single core running and there is still some even older win98 systems in the service shop. I may replace my single core with my two older P4HTs. The take the single core are install win98 on it to repalce one of the older service shop computers. We still have dos type apps we run, they excute better under 98 and having a seperate computer for them makes it easier when the app needs to be run, it's not interfering with the someone elses work. Then i'll have to boincize all of these. Plus in the remix there will some more extra computers i'm going to try to spread out around the shop for different uses, internet access points outside of our accounting network and make sure they boinc when not used. Since most will be gpuless it will not be a big boost to my rac, but it will help cpu projects.

Oh and we get cable internet next week.

And i was planning on moving our file server, hubs and dsl modem from a spare location to my new computer workshop, which is also the sales counter where my old desk was. From my new desk i can see over there and it is closer to me, os i can watch or more easily get to the server. At least i won't have to reroute phone lines anymore. I'm going to get the cable guy to leave me extra cable so when i move i can just uncoil it along with network data cables i'll be running and that will be easy. Actually moving the server will be easy, i'm just going to move it, and reroute all the network through an already run single cable. Then as time permits i'll start running new network cables from there to each station. i want to keep hubs and switches down to a minimum and since everything is within 100 feet that is easier to do. I have a spare network swith to use during the transistion from old location to new. This wil lkeep me busy at work for a while and away from paperwork.

Well back to not so fun windows install.

No fun today either.

The lawn needs attending to...hasn't been mowed since they started work on the driveway. Gotta figure out what to do with the edges of the driveway...they dug up space to put the wood forms in and now I have this 3-4" gap all along it. Laundry needs done... Finally finished bringing expenses up to date this morning...

WINNING???

Now for photos:
Three of the driveway:
Garage and deck area (see the gap at the edge?)

Porch entrance and looking down the driveway

From street looking to house/garage

Then the partial shipment on the new battery pack:
Nine 'small' boxes of 8 cells each (I have to assemble this thing myself; it comes in pieces).

Another box with the last 4 cells and a bag of connectors.

Did you go out and carve the date or your name in the wet cement ?

Well good luck in assembly on the cells.

I'm still not having fun. Upon the 4th attempt to use the built in recovery, it hung up again. I this time used the full recovery that says it formats the drive, it did not, it did the quick format that just reset the allocation table to clear and not the hard format, so after windows go to its thing it tries to write in the bad seco=tor and freezes. Also the stupid recovery installs 28 other programs, like aol or nortons. Ther is no option to pick and choose, so it takes like over an hour. I'll have to uninstall stuff when i'm done as i don't want those in there.

So i pulled another cd from another system to start again an attempt. This one gives me the option to pick partitions, so i deleted the old one, then picked the free space, it's doing the hard long time running format now. When that is done i'll try the built in recovery again to put back windows that came with it. its the same as the other twin so i'll stick with it.

bottom line, more wasted time. At least while i'm waiting i'm doing other stuff.

some of which includes a little winning !!!

No joy on reviving twin1. After a reformat, the original recover CD put the recovery aprtition back, and windows back, then during the setup windows goes through a bunch of stuff and then stops, after an hour sitting with one screen and no change for the forth time I gave up. I installed windows xp sp1 from an older system cd. It went Ok but at the moment the mouse has frozen 3 times, i have to unplug the wireless receiver and plug it back in. Also a bunch of stuff doesn't work, there are no drivers installed for the network port. This is why I wanted to use the supplied cd as that did all that stuff. I'm tired of watching it so for now i'll let it run and warm up. Maybe tomorrow i'll find some drivers.

On the good side of things, it was a beautiful day today, in the 80's I'm sure. This is like the first real nice day in a long time, at lest on the days off. I went out and did a bunch of planting of more seeds. Transpalnted the pot full, like 250, of baby pepper plants. I had started a pot indoors in one big pot, then when i put the 8 pepper palnt pots outside, filled them with new soil, i forgot and put more seeds in them. So i waited to see what grew. Some did good, 2 pots came up empty. So i moved bunches of pepper plants to various pots and put some in the ground too beside the others i started in the ground and the trqanspalnts from last year. I already have 2 peppers ready to eat. Then there are a ton of mini tomato plants in the same patch. It is beside the stairs going up and i'll be able to make all the plants grow up the side wall and the stair railing. Lets see, I put down more waterymelon seeds. There is a ton of lettuce growing, i might be able to harvest a small salad. I have red hot peppers. Most of the pepper plants are an inch tall, except for all those from the starter pot are 3 inches and the ones left from last year, about 4 of them and 3 feet. There is much other stuff, it was a busy day on the farm.

ps for Mikey
I got 6 stereos in stock on Friday. Already sold 4 of them so far since leaving the office Friday. This should make the bossman happy on Moanday. Time to get him to order more. The internet never sleeps and it seems neither do the shoppers. I think i'm gonna bust my record for sales for a weekend by The time its over.

Hey that is GOOD Keith!! You must have a very good price or have them in stock where as other places can't get them!

I had NO luck with my seeds so I am looking to buy some new plants this year, I tried twice using the saved seeds and nothing came up AT ALL! I must have done it wrong!!!

Keith did you say you are using a 'restore cd' from the manufacturer? If so you can blank the hard drive with a program like DBAN and then put the restore cd in and it will just load and go.

Randy what are the 'cells' for? I like the driveway!! My idea for the sides would be an almost buried border so you can run the mower along it without having to really edge it. Maybe some half wide or less paving blocks, just enough to keep the grass from being a pain.

Today I got my Poem numbers up above my Seti numbers, Seti is now steadily moving DOWN in my stats, which to me is a good thing!! I will post the signature tomorrow, Sunday, and you can see what I mean. In the meantime I am just WINNING!!!

ps has anyone heard from John lately?

Nothing from John since his last post.

How quickly you forget! The battery cells are for my replacement PHEV battery pack for my car. See my post where I told you about getting the loan for the driveway and what I tacked on to it.

Once installed, I have hopes of driving to/from w@^k using ZERO gas. Also, once recharged at home (I can also charge it at w@^k), I can run local errands without using any gas either.

The driveway edge needs to be filled in with dirt and seeded. I ran the mower wheels on the edge of the driveway and it worked OK.

I NEVER thought car batteries looked like THAT!! I do remember that conversation but didn't put two and two together, sorry! Oh and if that works for you, the driveway thing, then it IS the easiest way.

Actually, there are at least 5 different types of batteries/cells used by Electric car conversions.

The oldest technology is the lead-acid standard car battery (although they normally use the Marine Deep Cycle version). Hook a bunch together and go.

The next type is the NIMH: Nickel Metal-Hydride pack, which consists of multiple cells hooked into a large pack. Each cell is about 1 1/2" wide, about 8" high and 10" front to back.

The most advanced comercially currently is the Lithium-ion cell, which comes in at least 3 different formats...all hooked into one or more packs. The first looks kind of like a squashed brick with +/- terminals on top. The next is the cylinder, like in my pics. The +/- terminals are on either end. The third is a flat pack (These are used in the Volt and some others). The terminals are square tabs on the top of the pack.

There may be others I don't know about, and I'm sure there are new types being developed in R&D labs.

Hey that is GOOD Keith!! You must have a very good price or have them in stock where as other places can't get them!
No there is a lot of competitiom

No there is a lot of competition. I am selling cheaper than I think it should be, but still make money. On products like these the manufacturer has a minimum advertised price. i can hide it and do since i'm below it. However other sellers or 3rd party sellers sell cheaper with the price dispalyed. One can try to get the manufacturer to stop them, but it is hard. One of our manufactures also has a minimum resale price. they will buy units from sellers, and if you invoice comes to them below that price, they cut off your supply for 3 months. If you don't buy direct, they cut off your distributor for 3 months.
That keeps a lot from ever doing it again. I'm trying to get the MAP on the product i sell enforced more, but it is a very large amount of trouble. I don't even sell a lot of things as it takes too much effort to get all the manufacutres to enforce thier stupid MAP policy. I won't break the rule as it puts our dealerships at risk and my boss is mad enough at me for other things already.

I had NO luck with my seeds so I am looking to buy some new plants this year, I tried twice using the saved seeds and nothing came up AT ALL! I must have done it wrong!!!
You need to try more seeds, jsut one or two won't do. I put down hundreds, then if they grow, thin out the plants as they get bigger. Liek i said i put down 8 pots of seeds, for some reason two pots did not grow. there were seeds from 3 different batches, only i forgot now which was which. I think the two pots was the third set. All the soil was new and the same in all 8 pots and i watered them all the same. So yes sometimes it is jsut dud seeds. Location and temp also is a factor, but msot of mine were all in the same place. Timing is a key too. Plants and seeds have a natural instict to grow only under certain conditions. {/quote]
Keith did you say you are using a 'restore cd' from the manufacturer? If so you can blank the hard drive with a program like DBAN and then put the restore cd in and it will just load and go.
[/quote]Yes. I did that, i wiped the drive, reformatted, then put in the original restore cd and it went through severla hours of stuff, the the same thing again, some part of windows does not set up right. The same happens with the recovery partiton. For some reason it tries to install some thing in a specific location i guess or else some pice of ahrdware is going foobar and it locks up at that point.

Yeah, i don't get it either. it worked once long time ago. I even tried the second cd from the other twin, same thing. the setup alsways dies near the end, and then a reboot windows just starts off on a black screen, then nothing else. Something major is wrong with it. Weird.

I did successfully get an older copy of windows xp installed from another system. Only now i have to find the rest of the drivers and manually add them. The original cd did all that automatically. So at the moment there is no network access until i sit down and figure out what driver it needs. there was 6 other yellow flags in device manager for things missing drivers.

Take out a memory chip and try again, seriously sometimes too much memory can be a problem. Then after it is up and running add the chip back in and do a Windows Update, that is where it will find all those updates it needs. If you do not have the manufacturers disk at least go their website and down load the network drivers, that way you get the a/v on it and start the update process.

One more thing I do now that night help you is to get a 4 gb usb drive, or an 8gb for Win7 or Server, and use them to install the OS instead of he cd/dvd drives. It is not only faster but has less chance for an error too. If you just make the usb stick bootable you then copy the whole cd or dvd onto it and plug it into the machine. Older machines do not support booting from a usb so you are stuck with the cd/dvd on them.[/quote]

Hi guys, it's long time since I've been here. John is currently in hospital. He's had a few major medical setbacks in the past few weeks, including a shattered shoulder which required surgery, renal failure which required dialysis, and now the discovery of tumours in his shoulders which will require radiotherapy. There is a thread devoted to John in the SETI@Home Cafe, which explains it all.

Welcome to the game!!
The idea is simple, post or you can't win!! The originator of the thread was last games winner, no double posts, this gives other a chance to win too. The thread originator picks a number, date, special something or other to them and then we happily post until that point is reached and someone wins!

At the office

OLD DSL:

Net Cable connection:

Notice we moved from the "slower than" to the "faster than" catagoy.
We also have the option to upgrade to 60M or 100M. i thought we'd try the slowest 30M option first. Charter Cable Rules !!!

Not WINNING!!!

I'm very lucky, this is why I'm WINNING.

Speed varies. It's an average thing. Sometimes it will go over a little, i doubt it would hit 60M on my 30M connection.

We also now have internet, phones, and cable TV all coming in from the cable company. There are 2 modem boxes, one for phones and one for internet.

Now on a bad note. I had an external HDD problem this morning. While attempting to restore power to it, the other drive went funy too. I think i lost my data drive and the back-up drive. When i turned them back on they kind of blink and windows never saw them. Those contain all my backups, scanned documents (bank statements, invoices, etc) and more for several years going back. I didn't have time to continue fooling with them today. I'll have to re-investigate this issue tomorrow. I'm so lucky I loose 2 data drives at the same time.

I was lucky as my passwords were also in it. Being flustered over this, i had to log into the firebox to change the settings so it would use the new cable connection. I finally got it but it took me like 14 tries to remember the passwords. Then having never done that, it took a while to figure out. It was setup 8 years ago when we got it. We almost had a big foobar.

Today has been a real trying day.

Today has been a real trying day.

I had a similar problem, too many pc's each with its own set of passwords for websites that I finally went and am now using LastPass. It is an online site that is encrypted prior to being uploaded to them. So unless you remember the one email address and password NOTHING is accessible. BUT as long as you know those you can get to all of them from any pc on the net!!! AND when you change or save a new password it is instantly available to anyone that logs on. There is even a USB drive portable option so you can take it with you and not even need the net!

WINNING!!!

Unfortunately, Comcast basically has a monopoly in my town. Can't even get U-Verse (which sucks anyway), 'cause DSL won't work across my phone lines. I could get some kind of Satellite network, but that has its own problems too.

Still not WINNING!!!

Well I'm not sure on those backup drives. Maybe it is the USB interface gone bad. Still trying some things. Later when I have more time (Yeah Right) I'll try to take one apart and see if I can directly read the drive, i think they are sata drives inside the external units.

So I found another backup drive, one I kept offsite at home. Unfortunately with my recent eye problem I forgot about a lot of stuff. It is not up to date. Goes back to February though, must have done it just before leaving on vacation. That would have everything prior to that date.

I'm restoring this to a HDD in my computer.

Next up is a USB Stick that contains certain documents. That may be up more up to date, i'm not sure though, it could be two weeks old. So that needs to be merged over the first restore.

Then i've got to merge the stuff i saved yesterday in a temporary folder.

Then I ned to set up another temporariy extra backup drive, i don't want to write anything to the one from February yet until i know everything is restored properly.

Between those I can recover about 98% of the important stuff.

Some stuff may be lost, but it is not that important.

For now the plan is to continue moving forward, I'll worry about filling in the gaps later.

I don't think i'm winning today yet.

The new computers will have DVD burners in them. My plan will be to save to a hdd, backup to another hdd and then say monthly, burn the older files to a dvd. But thats another story yet to come.

Still restoring the first drive. It unfortunately is not mac-daddy-fast. It's one of those protable usb powered drives. Gets the job down, sometime. If I had looked first I would have only restored 2012, but its well into the operation, i might as whell let it run. Then after i everything is done i'll jsut delete the 2011 stuff off my HDD. I'll relabel this mislabeled one as 2011 and start a new one for 2012 to backuip everything off the hdd to it.

I didn't realize what was on it, or even read the label. I have it labeled 2010, yet there is no 2010 stuff on it, only 2011 and a little into 2012. I was suppose to start a new drive for 2012. Looking around I only found 3 other blank drives. I seem to be missing some stuff somewhre. Then I found some DVDs I made once, these are 2008s. So what happend to the other years ? Am I that bad at making backups here ? Maybe it's I just forgot where I hid them.

The search goes on....

edit
That is strange i made dvd's in 2008. I'm wondering how seen as my two computers here only have dvd-rom drives. weird.

I do monthly backups of EVERY ONE of my pc's, except for a couple! A couple get backed up to an internal drive, most get backed up to a drive on another machine and the 1 that doesn't get backed up I can't find free software for! The 1 is my Windows Home Server and is just a pc, not a backup machine or anything, but since it is a Server it requires a special version of software to do backups. I have the backups setup automatically and most only take a few hours, so they each do theirs on a different day starting a little after midnight based on the name of the pc. I name my Boinc only machines things like Boinc 2, Boinc 3 etc. The machine that I use as my regular machine is called Mikes, or Dell_laptop and they get done after the Boinc machines are done.

Randy Comcast is the main provider in my neighborhood too, but Verizon got permission to come in and run FIOS underground and a BUNCH of us switched over ASAP!!! Verizon was SOOOOOOO bad!!! My neighbor had problems and called Comcast for help, they sent the outside guys and said there is signal to the home so it is an inside problem, the inside guys came and said the signal is no good it is an outside problem! This went back and forth for over 2 weeks, neither showing up at the same time. Finally my neighbor called the local politician and she met both the inside and outside guys and together they figured out the outside guys fixed a problem down the street boosting the signal causing the problem in my neighbors house! Comcast told the politician it wasn't there job for the inside and outside guys to talk to each other, it was not their problem! She MADE IT THEIR PROBLEM at the next Council meeting, the local Comcast guy got fined, butt chewed, and forced to send each and every piece of paper to her Office for the next 6 months!! I am willing to bet people got fired, or sent elsewhere in their system, as a result! They almost lost their franchise for the WHOLE County on the spot!! They made a TON of promises and concessions to keep the franchise!!

WINNING!!!

My intention is to do backups weekly. However, in business other matters end up consuming my time and my condition of "old age" setting in doesn't help matters, if I remember correctly.

Speed really all depends on the server. Don't hit that one in arizona somewhere, it's max is like 5. The East coast servers seem to be faster than west coast.

Today I was 0.02Mb/s faster than yesterday.

We're really kookin' now.

And with that I blaze past Randy and take the lead.

I use the program Macrium Reflect, it is free for Home Use, so won't work as a business solution AND is probably why it won't do my Server!
http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx

In the free version you set it up once and then make that recurring setting and it runs when you want it to run. Like I said I run mine starting at just after midnight as no one is on the pc's then and it can have maximum bandwidth. The only thing the Free version won't do is incremental backups, so it is an all or nothing thing.

I have a friend who asked me to check out EaseUS Backup Free, it DOES do incremental but I have not even loaded it yet, when you go to install it you must check a box that says you are NOT using it in a business.

Keith I thought you had a script you used to use! It was built into Windows.

And GOOD GRIEF that is FAST!!!!!!!!!!

WINNING but not on speed!!! It is because I am now at #86 overall in Boinc as ranked by total Cobblestones!

No I use a program called robocopy. The "script" is really just the command line of the shortcut. I have a bunch of shortcuts for certain sets of data. But they are run manually and the manual timer seems to be malfunctioning.

I'm behind in stuff today getting sidetracked.

Should be out gardening some more, i did some this morning.

Trying to set up windows on this troublesome unit. OK I forund the driver to activate the network. So then i'm trying to active windwos xp. It won't accept the key. Now i realize the cd i used from another computer is windwos xp home and the key that came with this computer is media center edition. Another pain in the windows.

Yeah i do have the xp key, but i want to actually have the media center edition on this unit with the correct key.

So again i'm trying the original restore cd but the thing refuses to read and boot from it. I'm thinking the cd drive is bad, but i installed the xp to this system from it. So at the moment i'm copying the files using another computer on the cd to an usb stick and i'll try to get it to boot from that.

Now back to some emails i started on 3 hours ago....

EaseUS Backup Free, ? I went to check it out, don't see a free version. there is a trial verison good for 15 days.

Well since i'm not winning anyway.

No luck on the computer, now i've damaged the copy i had instlled. the computer is refusing to read the cd and boot from it. when it does, i think it is running the recovery on the hdd and that is fowled up so it doesn't complete. I could not get it to boot the usb stick. I can not get it to boot cd, even using the bios and wsetting the cd drive as the first boot device, it jsut skips and goes to hdd. I give up for now.

I do have a plan though. I'll unplug hdd in twin2. then plug in this messed up hdd. Maybe then twin2 has a better feeling rom and working cd drive, i can boot the original setup cd and get the hdd reformatted and setup. But thisi s for another day as i'm tired of this mess for now.

I had some other paperwork laying here for 6 weeks now. I had to find some obsure information. I could not find it in my computer. I remember i had toruble with this same info 12 years ago and after much trouble to get the info again, i found the original paper document. So a search for the paper document began, I thought i scanned it. Guess not. I did find where i hid it, scanned it and hid it again. Anyway that secret information is now found and i can complete this document.

Today has been nothing but trouble.

I think I have a problem. I just did the regular midmonth Windows update and now my desktop will not boot up. The hard drive light stays on all the time and there is no display, no nuthin'.

[edit] Hmmm...I went to install the Win 7 Repair disk and boot off that. To my surprise, the system booted up normally off the hard drive. The whole system is 3 1/2 years old and has been crunching 24/7 since it was new. I suspect I have been warned. [/edit]

OK, maybe not quite so busy as I thought.

Back from the movies (Dark Shadows) and Dinner @Macaroni Grill. Heading over to Oldest daughter's late afternoon for a Mother's day cookout. That gives us a couple of hours slack time until then.

For us old fogies that watched the original TV series, I can tell you the movie is quite good and worth the admission (YMMV). For someone brought up on the Twilight sagas or the Underworld series, there's probably not enough blood and guts for them. It was reasonably faithful to the TV series plotline, but threw in a couple of nice twists as well. Showed Barnabas as a young boy leaving England with his family for Maine where his father founded a fishing business, and of course, the town of Collinsport. We also get to see new background on Maggie Evans/Victoria Winters. For the movie, the two characters from the TV series are merged into a single character.

All-in-all, my wife and I enjoyed it tremendously.

WINNING!!!

No komputering today.

I spent most of the day moving a plant outside. My last tub of sweet potato was doing so good, then suddenly it went down hill. Maybe I should have moved it out sooner. During the move I broke 3 of it's 6 arms, 2 might survive, the other I broke completely off. The vines are flexible but only to a point. It already has 3 broken spots, as long as some is still connected, they live on. I tie a strip of cloth around them to hold them together.

Out on the porch I've got a lot of stuff. I got 4 of 5 white pototoes to grow. Those I started inside the reuse soil bucket, covered. Now they are in the other sweet potato pot (um, that one didn't survive the winter). They have about 6 inch tall sprots and leaves now.

Have 9 pots of bell peppers, too many to count. Several pots of lettuce. There is some lettuce in some pepper pots and some peppers in the lettuce pots. I think the squirrel mixed my seeds up. Some of the lettuce is big enough to start picking leaves off.

One pot of red hot peppers

A couple small pots of mini tomatoes. Don't know which ones they will be until they put out fruit.

5 pot of Alamada, about 9 plants total.

7 pots of Oleander trees and 3 pots of 1 inch tall babies.

3 pots of Sweet Basil.

1 pot with 3 Tamarind seeds. Slow growers. they are beginning to poke out and have little stalks. Started these 3 months ago.

1 pot with 5 Kumkwat trees, slow growers. 2 are poking up out of the soil now, started those 3 months ago.
Down in the ground there is a lot more bell pepper plants and mini tomatoes. All started from seeds except the 3 bell pepper stalks that survived the winter indoors. I already have 2 bell peppers at the edible stage.

In the ground too I put down some flowers. A lot I had saved from the seeds from last years. also in the mail I got this packet of flower seeds. Enough to cover like 100 sqaure feet. My Garden are for those is about 1/5 that, so i didn't use them all. Who knows what will come up. Also I saw a stray bell pepper and basil growing there already, plus I have 2 Oleander trees in the ground.

I have one Avacod0 tree growing indoors. This one is the tallest I've ever had, over 3 feet know. i t had 5 leaves and in the past week or so grew another 3 inches and started 4 more leaves.

And there is more stuff growing here and there.

The gardening is going to be a big 'hobby' this year.

Now I have to go clean up the dinning room, where during the move beside dropping like a gazillion leaves, i spilled a pot of dry dirt all over the carpet. This part sucks, well at least the vacuum does.

I don't feel too great either, I think it is the rain, rain and more rain I have been getting lately! That and the lack of me actually sleeping right now! I lay to sleep and only rest most of the night, occasionally I have bouts of passing out type sleep but mostly it is just resting.

Still working on restoring files.

I did some but i think the restore thing did not do them all. I'm so busy i can't really sit here and focus on it and watch it. I merged the two other things into one but i'm not happy and some stuff is still missing. Later i'll paly with the bogged drives. So for now i've set up a new spot to save all new documents which i had started on the day the backup drive broke. I'll keep them seperate for a while until i think i've finished fooling around with the other stuff, then maybe merge them. This couldn't happen a a more busy time.

It's our busy season plus now i've got 4 more new computers to install and setup. But I put some thought into that and decided to keep our older stuff seperate. The inventory-accounting-sales software is on our windows 2003 server and sql database. It requires the computers to be on the domain. For a 3 person store, that is too much security and power. It takes too much maintenance and overhead for 1 guy (ME!). So i thunk on it, and we can do this. Well use the new windows 7 systems to do daily stuff, email, browisng, spreadsheets and kwackbooks. We'll keep the old computers running the old stuff.

I can rearrange my desk and move some applications around. I'll still have 3 computers on my desk. I get rid of a single core. Move the one dual core with accounting over to that spot and move some applications off the single core to the dual core. Then i'll setup the two new windows 7 dual cores and put browser on one and spreadsheet on the other, repalcing the older dual core which does spreadsheets. I'll do the same for the other guys, they get a new windows 7 system to do email and browising and move their older system to the side for price lookups, they do little of that. Might actually make things easier on them. I've been doing multiple computers for years now.

Bottom line is i don't have to install the windows 7 pro upgrade on all the systems and then go through all the domain setup and all the server setup for them. Less work and less headaches. Also i end up with more running systems here. It will be a while before i boincize them and then maybe even longer before i attempt gpu addons. But the new ones can handle one each. some of the old ones have one, some can't. In the end it's more cores for malaria tasks.

When that server dies, well do something else. Maybe just switch totally to kwackbooks and not have this fancy smancy overpowered system. Anyway i've got many busy days ahead doing all these rearrangements, and no time in the days to do it. May take months.

I'm swamped with orders like the rains a comin' down.
-
Glad i have a new no paperwork system for doing these. Today I started with 3 for the morning. By 3pm I had done 10 total. And another came in now and another is pending. This is a single day record. That almost beats most weekends for order count, they usually run a dozen, but if you divide that over 2.5 days it was not that many per day.

Gotta get jamming, more to do. At least now with the new way, I can do orders today for shipment tomorrow. Our old system I had to do them on the day they shipped as I could not change the dates in it. So at least now orders in the late afternoon can be done and then in the morning I have a little less to do sometimes.

Now if I could get back to those computers. It took me 4 days to get the 2nd one of 5 out of the box, and as of yet i've not applied pwoer to it. The 1st one was done a week ago, but it took me like 2 weeks to get that done, that is unpack it, register winderz, add one piece of software and make a dvd recovery set of disks.

I am making progress on the restore of lost data. What i have is done and new data is being saved along with it in a seperate folder, and today i got my "Scripts" written to make 1 copy for drive d to e and to be able to make 1 copy from drive d to f which is a usb self powered drive i only plug in when needed for the backup, hopefully i get it once a week. I plan to make a second one, carry one home and then every other week switch them out. I have 4 of these but one i'm keeping as is with the older stuff until i get everything sorted out. the 4th is empty now as a spare. they are small 164GB drives which holds enough for what i need, one has about 5 years on it and only 2/3rds full. When i'm done with the new computers i'll have 4 internal 500GB drives, 2 per unit plus the external drives which will only keep data back 1 year. Some other old stuff i'm going to burn to dvds, 1 copy for here, 1 copy at home. That's kind of the plan, but you know how plans go.

I'm not sure if i'm winning today or not, i think i'm going sideways.

Keith try here
http://www.pacificgeek.com/showcategory.asp?c=283&s=1155

They do NOT provide serial numbers, for the most part, BUT do provide the basic software cd/dvd. That means that those dvd's you are making could be unneeded. You have the sticker on the side of the case with the MS Windows serial number on it, use the basic cd or the type you need, put that number from the sticker and Windows is loaded. You WILL need a basic set of network card drivers but they are easy to get, then you are good to go for a reload from scratch for each pc.

Welcome to the game thespeeker! John started this game but Keith has generously decided to take it over while John is not feeling well.

I am sticking with Ice Cream Sandwich, for my Droid anyway! A couple of months ago a friend of mine GAVE me his old Droid smartphone, this past tuesday he gave me the one he got when he gave me the old one, so now I have an LG Revolution smartphone and my friend is now without a cell phone altogether! He DOES have Onstar in his car and says that is all he will ever need, so he is walking around without a cell phone for now! The Revolution has a 4.3" screen, it is FRICKIN huge!!! It is 1/2" BIGGER than the NEW IPhone 5, which isn't even released yet!! There is a new for Droid smartphones Boinc app I might try, just to see it work! It still takes over 5 hours to crunch one workunit according to people who have tried it.

You get WON bonus point for using a "K" word in a Klever way.

First off I got up early. I got a new koffee pod maker and had set it up last night. I decided i should run one batch of water through first. While that was boiling away i was working on something else and the glass i had stuck under it tipped over, spilling boiling water on my hand.

I've put some burn relief gel on it but after an hour, it still stings some, mostly when i move it like for typing.

Now, I decided I needed to install seVen's updates I haven't done in a while on my home komputers here. WOW, I have a record uptime without reboots. 19 days one one and 24 days on two. I don't think i ever went over 9 before. With the problems it was like 1 to 3 times a day. Two was giving me fits again but since I turned off GPUgrid it has been fine for 24 days. Oddly though boinc has not gotten any other gpu tasks for the nvidia's on that one, i'll have to look into it. It should get some Einstein which is running on one. After a reboot here soon.

Today looks like a good day for some more Gardening.

Lastly progress report on the work komputers. I almost got the second one done for initial setup. The first one came up with an update to the bios. These are Dells. This was kool as it did everything automatically, after my approval. Sweet. I've also applied all the windows update, java and flash. I have to repeat this 5 times. Then begin some installs of kwackbooks, which we also has a bunch of updates to do after the install. I think i'll have to do that 4 times, one is already setup and running. I ordered two more UPSes as I'm ruunning short and some of the spares which were old years ago don't work. I figured lets get all new while i can. Still didn't get to taking those usb drives apart. Work keeps interferring with my IT duties, which unfortunately are on the bottom of the list and 1/5th of my job title. If we don't make money, theres none to pay the IT staff, which is me. I'll get everything worked out, setup, rearranged sometime.

I'll pass on winning today.., someone else's turn.

There are updates EVERY Tuesday with Win7, it can be a pain trying to keep up!!! On some of my machines I set it to do them automatically, on others I don't want all that stuff so do it manually!

I hope your hand is okay!!! I LOVED my pod style coffee maker and am keeping it as a spare if my Keurig every quits on me!

ps I just read the thread over at Seti about John Clark and he is starting Chemotherapy TODAY and is in the Hospital but IS posting using a borrowed laptop! That is REALLY good news!!!

I do updates manually. I do have the programs notify me, but i like to know when one is going and also i run a lot of things i don't want inturrputed if possible. So yeah, updates have been delayed some this past time.

I did do windows 7, flash, ati, nvidia and boinc on both untis. Then i fixed some project errors, nnw'd some and enabled some others.

Within an hour i had unit two crash again.

I did find yafu listed as causing problems so i dumped it for now, that might be a new problem i don't think it has been my long term problem as i don't have but 37 credit there. It is rare for projects to crash the computer, but someone else mentioned it crashed explorer desktop. On unit two i disabled one of the gpus for now also. it's been running 3 hours now. One usually runs fine.

Didn't have time yet to get back to the dead twin.

Left hand is still redish and only hurts if i run hot water on it, so doing dishes has been a little awkward. It was only the backside that got hit, my fingers or palm side are fine. I can hold things with it but any dunking in water is now a right hand op only, then hold thing in left hand and scrub with right. just means i have to keep dropping the scrubber from my right. I think i'll recover. I might have a few small spots on my legs and feet, but they didn't sting. Taking a shower later may be interesting.

Good to hear about John.

Anyway, i got new koffee makers because the old ones, well were just old. Maybe had them 13-15 years by now. I got them shortly after i got here at the beach in
97. no not 1897. They are single kup brewers with a small basket and reusable filter but you could only fit a single cup under it. They still work. I use ground at home but I use pods at work because they easier to clean up and we only have a small sink with faucets you have to keep pressing or hold the thing down to get water out for any length of time and one only sprays out half way anyway. So its a pain to do daily cleanings of anything. Plus with the pods you have to put two in as they don't exaclty fit, so i keep the last one used to fill up part of the basket and rotate them. I usually only use one new pod a day, you can get several kups out of it, although the first is the best. So the new ones i got, two different models and a different brand, just because they looked to do the job. For work i got a pod brewer that can only do one kup. so it is smaller. For home i got one that can do a short kup or a taller travel mug size. But it is still a pod brewer only i bought some fill your on pods. So i can still use ground koffee at home. At work i just don't have a lot of space to have too much stuff. Todays koffee was good and hot.

I used to use the Senseo Pod system until they recalled it and for over a year left me hanging! They told me NOT to use the old one and they would send me a new one, well it seems everyone in the whole WORLD got theirs before I got mine!! So I bought a Keurig system and am not looking back!! I did eventually get the new Senseo Pod coffee maker but it has never been used, it sits in the box waiting for 'some day', as is my original Keurig maker. I upgraded to a newer model at Christmas due to some very good sales and my wife said the old one was too noisy. I only drink 3 cups of coffee per day so a pot style coffee maker was a waste of money.

At work and at home i'm the only drinker and I drink 1 to 3, sometimes 4 all day but not on a fixed time schedule. So brewing a pot and keeping it warm all day is a waste. I might have 2 kups between 8 and 10 and then 1 at 3 or something like that. My old non-pod was Black&Decker. The new ones are Hamilton Beach. Since I share the kitchen, I only have 1/2 a kitchen so space is a premium. At work I managed to squeeze in a microwave and my stuff has to fit on top of it except where one printer hangs over, so it's like half, that's my kitchen there.

Time for a winning kup of koffee !!!

I used to do that when I was w*&king but switched as a cup of coffee makes you slow down and either sit at your desk or someone elses and take a short break. A Can of soda meant, to me, on the go go go!!!

Hey I wanted to tell you guys I am now NUMBER ONE ON MY TEAM in overall Boinc cobblestones!

I am DEFINITELY WINNING!!!
