I got a PM from John Clark and told him I would pass it on:

"I sat in a chair mid-April and broke my left uper arm, which was titanim plated and screwed in a 7 hour operation. Unfortunately my kedneys failed for the month following, and I was mainly on dialysis. Kidneys slowly recovering but low function ATM.

They found I have blood myeloma which has weakened my bones, and caused 2 bone cancers to be deposited. I will have radium treatment to reduce the cancers, and have started, today, into a chemo trial which will later replace all my bone marrow with a new immune system via stem cell replacement - my stem cells.

Most of the chemo is pills, which means I can be home and reboot my old rigs.

Advanced chemo treatment for the UK NHS rural hospital ..."

He seems to be in good spirits so hopefully he is on the mend!

Then this thunderstorm rolled in and i don't ahve them on backup supplies yet, so i turned them off. All the storm did was make a few rumbles, a few rain drops came down and the sun came back out. I seem to never get a break. I could have used that time to get some more done on them. I left them off because the sky was black again, really black around closing time. I do have backup supplies on order and they'll be here in a few days. I at least did get a good todo list made up so i can check off what's been done and remember what to do on the next 2.

Oh well time for some dinner and then sleeeeeeeep.

Oh, sales are great. Before i left work i was 66 bucks and some change from breaking last years best month, which would make this month so far #2 in my internet sales. I just got an order for a 65 buck item. Well then there is still the long weekend to try for the number one spot, but I don't think i'll make that. Part of the month i've been out of my best selling item due to back-order from the factory and then other sellers have been real bad on selling it cheap. I gave up on the price war for a while as i really have more important things to do.

Just picked my first harvest. Enough Mesclun lettuce leaves for a nice n tasty salad, plus one bell pepper, ate the whole thing. Still one more pepper to pick and the lettuce there is a lot, I could get about 5 more salads out of it as it is. need to let some more grow as i don't want to strip them down too far all at once.

Really winning, no virtualality here.

Well now for a blown day. Came in a little early to get some stuff done. Distractions ensued. The work began. After taking care of no less than 2 problems which were were problems to take care of, phone calls to make and people to yell at, I'm finally getting to what i wanted to do at 8am.

Anyway first test was good. We only have a 2 looser, i mean 2 user license on kwackbooks. So in testing this with 4 computers is to see that each can log in while someone else is online, but only 2 at a time so it was a rotation, log 2 in, log 1 out, log anouther in, rotate though them. This went well today and was able to get all 4 to work. That is at least part of the battle. I still have two more stations to set up and the actually move kwackbooks data off the old system to the new one. Then retasking old ones can begin. I think too I'll recommend one more new computer as a dedicated data server, so someone deosn't accidentally reboot it while some other looser is logged in.

I like the . I'm impressed by there speed and lack of heat pumping out. Some of my old P4's with no GPU suck down 223 Watts with no LCD on. These at full power 2 cores and the built in cheap ATI (4200 I think and like 40 streammers) are slurping down only 90 to 126 Watts and part of that is because i've got older LCDs on them for testing and not the new LEDs. I didn't put a lot of thought into buying those, pretty much picked the first one i saw, maybe the second. It had what we needed and was a reasonable price.

I'm thinking of retiring the twins at home and replacing them since one is half dead anyway and they are at least 8 years old. That much less electric power would pay for them. Plus less heat to have to run less a/c to compensate.

And NO you do NOT want your backups on the SAME drive as the data you are backing up!! Separate drives are a MUST!! If you REALLY need to you can use those old single core machines as backup ONLY machines! You can make them headless and run a script on a schedule, the single core cpu while slow, will handle that with ease. ORRR you could put Win98 on them and sell them as used pc's on the website to recoup some of your investment. NO warranty of course. Maybe it would fund another Qwackbook license, if needed?

Well it's not the screen saver. #2 doesn't use one, in fact it doesn't even 'blank' the screen as normally i manually jsut turn it off. After my last message i went to sit down and watch a video, it ahd reset. After 40 minutes it reset in the midle of my video. I was not even running Einstein, i had diasbled that nad had no einstein work.

It's frustrating......

We are not dry here, and we got plenty of rain (nyuk nyuk). Four inches last week. It's been a long time since I've see the landscape look so green.

Well, we got some rain yesteray. I went out to to porch and garden once, and it started to rain while i was at the bottom of the stairs, by the time i got to the top it was done. That was all we got the whole long weekend. And the weather gadget said 3 days of thunderstorms. I never heard a peep.

So this morning i'm out watering again.

And then there was this spare pot full of clover. Came out Satuday morning and none of the colver stalks had any leaves. Every single leaf stripped bare. Though wind damage, but all the other plants in other pots are ok. Something had a good breakfast. Well anyway it was jsut extra stuff and I needed a pot to put some basil babies in, so it worked out ok, but i'm worried miss muncher is lurky around somewhere.

According to MichaelT, an Admin here, the credits should have been granted for those units, if not you might want to send him a link. Also ALL units that the Project KNOWS were bad were cancelled, so for now we are back to the older units and everything is okay again.

Well day 6, the weather service is actually right today. They said chance of a storm. We got a flood comin' down. And to top that off, it's now raining inside the building, but not on my computers. It picked a good spot to come in, right in the middle of the only narrow walkway we all use to go from the front to the back.

I had so much paperwork yesterday I didn't even get to the new computers until 1 minute to 5. All I could do was turn one on that was off for some reason. Today I'm making better procress and got a 5th one out of it's box. Got the others all up equal on updates and stuff.

I noticed one thing about the dells. You can now make online backups of key data, up to 2GB for free. I thought I might give that a try until I get some more permanant stuff setup where I can store thme here. So in my new plan I had created email addresses for each computer using my domain, so i could register certain stuff for each, this came in handy to register each with it's own backup space. Also there is an option to make a password recovery disk. Loose your password and you can reset it in windows, bad thing is anyone with that disk can, so they need to be made and stuck in a really secure locked up place. I'll make those up too after I raid some more blank cds from home, i had bought like 100 dvdss and 100 cds once and used about 3. So another dozen gone won''t bother me at this point, gotta use them before they go out of style.

I think I just say a large boat, with an old man, 2 elephants and 2 garaffe's on deck float by.

I got to go to the psot office in half an hour, didn't bring my rain hat and it's not letting up yet. no winning here.

Well, I opened the boxes last night and started going through them. Wow what a bunch of electric parts! Noticed one thing missing right off the top...he included a 10-12' length of black wire to connect the BMS mini-boards to each battery negative terminal, but left out the red wire for the positive connections. Now, I can easily get some of that at the local Radio Shack, but I need to know the specs...proper gauge, etc.

The power cord for the charger is supposed to reach from the rear bumper, through the carpet and door well to under the driver seat where the charger is to be installed. Well, it's only about 8-10' long and I think I need AT LEAST 12' to snake it all the way there. Along with that, the Rear Controller has an AC wire hanging out of it...no instructions as to whether it needs to be plugged in at the same time as I'm charging or whatever...and where do I plug it in anyway??? Maybe the bumper plug should connect to a 3-4' power strip and I plug stuff into it?

Whatever...I sent him an email with about 10 questions I need info on to put this puzzle together and install it.

No answers yet on the battery kit. Discovered I am also missing one battery holder after all the others came in. The batteries are all connected now in the holders (except the one that's missing) and I can start soldering the BMS mini-boards together...still need to get red connector wire at Radio Shack, but lots to do before it's a show-stopper.

Well, last night I finished cutting, stripping, crimping and soldering 152 wires and terminal connector rings. Next I need to solder the wires to the mini-BMS boards...another 152 connections, then attach the wires to each battery...unscrew and re-screw 152 screws plus associated washers and lock-washers. While I'm at it, I'll attach the bus bars which connect the batteries in series.

Man, this project is a lot more work than I originally thought it would be! But I am...

No progress on the battery pack last night. Wife insisted I spend a bit of time with her.

Took a bunch of pics though and sent them to the kit supplier to show him what I had received so he could check what might be missing. One thing I was supposed to get was an 3-outlet extension cord to plug-in pieces inside the car. I think there's a relay switch missing too.

Solved problem with #6. There is a setting under the advanced power managerment in the device manager for the network card, called "wake only on magic packet". The first 4 had this unchecked but this one had it checked. So far so good.

But the the last one i'm now working on #3 has the same problem, yet i've checked those settings. Weird again.

Strange how the last two setting up are having problems. I bought them in the order 1, 2+3, 4+5 and 6 yet i ended up setting them up 1, 4, 5, 2, 6, 3.

More Good Good Good news. while waiting for not-so-quickbooks to load on #3, I turned #5 off and plugged my dissasemlbled hdd drive in, by passing the usb-sata interface (no in the trash can)and going directly to sata. It WORKS with all that data intact. YAHOO !!!. I'm relieved and can sleep again at night not worring about that.

I'm taking the other drive apart now also to test that. Won't matter as it should mostly be a duplicate of the first, but it would be nicve to know data is intact. Then i'll have to figure out a plan to merge the old data with the new data i've been saving on another drive.

I'm thinking what i will do, if they are sata drives, and i think they are, is take apart two other external drive units. put the two each 500GB drives in each of my two units #4 and #5 so they have twin spare drives each. Put the other two drives that had the failed usb interface into unit #6 as spares os it has twin drive, only they will be 1TB each. #6 will also act as another backup storage server for me, master copy on my main unit, second copy on my main unit, third and forth copy on my second unit and a fifth and sixth copy on the backup unit. This way too i resuse some current hardware and spare my budget for other things needed later.

So all the backup data is going to migrate anyway somewhere. Just need to make sure it moves without loss before i start to reuse the drive it is on.

Now back to problem solving.

Minimal progress w@^king on the kit tonight. Youngest granddaughter turns 3YO on Saturday and a big party is planned...so, grandpa and daddy and mommy were busy getting the yard mowed, raked, and shelters put up in the back yard. All this while grandma watched BOTH granddaughters the whole time.

@Keith, I ordered out Pizza Hut yesterday while we were setting up the yard for tomorrows b-day party. One pizza had Italian sausage + mushrooms + xtra sauce + onions + pineapple. The other had pepperoni + bacon bits + chicken.

I hope to keep my kar running another 100k miles...about 2/3 of that I hope to drive using ONLY battery! That, I'm estimating, would take me up to retirement age (70 unfortunately) in about 12-13 years. BTW, I rechecked and it's < 7k miles, not 6k to 100k on the odometer like I stated before.

Well, my battery pack progress has come to a standstill.

I've completed all the soldering that can be done at this point. Once the mini-BMS boards are mounted on the plexiglass sheets, they can be jumpered together and connected to the battery modules.

That's where I'm stuck at. The supplier didn't sent the plexiglass sheets to mount them onto. Waiting now for them to arrive before I can continue. Looks like another week's delay before this thing is installed.

Good news. All 6 units have run over the weekend with no dropouts, no backlog on boinc uploads or downloads. Bad news is that is all i've had time to check on today.

I'll probally uninstall all the mcafee. It was trial anyway. The question is why was one out of six blocking traffic, that should not be the default, all six should have been the same. Since i found a couple other minor things set to some other value from the others, i suspect somehow someone else had this unit or thier hands on this unit before and it was not wiped and restored to defaults. I checked as many as I could think of last week.

My Tablet died last week. I think the SSD went bad. Funny thing is, it was only 1.5 months past end of warranty. Figure that huh!

Replacement tablet is 7" Samsung Galaxy Tab 2. It's 2 major OS releases above the old one (Viewsonic tech support is/was terribly lacking). The 7" screen is a significantly smaller display, but the 10" version was an extra $150 with little or no other additional features. I wonder if I can hook the tablet to a monitor+keyboard+mouse...or if it'd even be worth it?

One advantage to this tablet: it has Proxy support so I can get internet access at work! Previous tablet only had access to LAN and couldn't get past the firewall.

Randy I do not know if your particular tablet can but they do make usb to monitor adapters. And with bluetooth you should be alge to use both a keyboard and mouse too. My friend runs his Ipad like that, not the monitor but the keyboard and mouse. Also SSD drives are getting cheaper now, you can get a brand new 60 gig for under 60 bucks now!

I'm soo tired.

Moanday and Toesday was paperwork days, nothing accomplished. This morning I had a few orders to fill and then got sidetrcked with improving my sales spreadsheet. I do a lot of numbers manually, was not a big deal at first. Now that sales pick up I need more automatic, so i made some more of it do more database type automatic summary of numbers, but had to go back and add a column for quantity then ender all 2271 numbers by hand. Thats done and now i have totals by item for the past 3 years of sales all automatically added up. I can better see what is popular, more popular now than then, or dropping off and not worry about did i add one eavery time. So this ended up kiling a couple unplanned hours.

Sales are increasing, Last year i did 1 or 2 packages a day during the week days. I'm up to a steady 4 to 6 now most days. Had 4 for this morning and already 2 more since then. Looking at the total dollars, i should surpass last years total within the next 30 days. That is about selling the same amount in 6 months instead of 12. Beat that !!!

Still no package from my Battery supplier. The only thing I really can't obtain myself locally is the instructions on how to hook the damn thing together. I'm going to run to Lowes this afternoon and pick up some plexiglass sheeting and silicon sealant (to glue the sheets on with). I think I've got a 3-4' power strip laying around to hook to the bumper plug.

The Priuschat.com board has people who have put the larger version of this kit together and they would probably be willing to help me with connecting it.

While I'm at Lowes, the wife wants me to get the same color paint that was used for the front porch, to paint the sides of the screened porch on the side of the house. I'll do that as well.

What were you low or something?! Just kidding, I know it is about your current problems! I used to give blood but they said since I take a baby aspirin every day now I can't anymore. There is a strong trend this side of the pond to Internet sales, and the high street, bricks and mortar shops without their web sites are loading marginally. In my case, and Krunchin's, there are a lot of old PC equipment still around doing a perfectly good job (if at they are powered up as my 2 are not yet).

It seems you are in a demand equipment area with a good long term business prospect ATM.

Did a lot today, after heading out for a good lunch time with Sheila, and a quick supermarket purchase (£14 or $22). I mowed the back lawn without trouble, while we had dry sunny warm weather, and have finished a couple of domestic chores, not attempted before.

Not tired yet, just hot, so I must be gradually winning still.

I'm excited about today but at the same time dread it. Yesterday I shut down 5 of the 6 new computers, they were in the test lab on 2 UPSes and 2 of the computers ad those UPSes need to go under my desk. So today I have to pull one computer and UPS out, move the other two computers and UPSes into that hole and stick the new stuff where i moved the other two out of. Reroute lots of cables, rearrange monitors and hope it all works. This is like an all day job and I feel I need to do it in an hour so I don't get backlogged on other tasks. Probally what is going to happen is it end up taking two days of rearranging so i can do some then do some work then do some more rearranging. This does not even include moving data around or setting up any software, that i'll have to work on over some days after. Well in other words the next three days are going to be stressful.

Then repeat three more weeks as I keep moving new units in, old units over and older units out, once for the boss, the other guy and the servers. Then there is some network cable rewiring so add another week. My brain needs rewiring too.

Maybe the boss will let you trade one day on the when you are closed with no interruptions for one day when you are open? Meaning you come in when you guys are normally closed do your work uninterrupted and then get a day off when you guys are open, sounds better to me! Even if it is only half days it is still better than 20 interruptions all the time!

Yeah that would work, but the day I take off he would just leave extra extra work on my desk. No thanks, then i'd be twice as far behind.

I'd rather work on it when I can and take 6 weeks, which has been 8 weeks so far to do the job.

I heard a good one at the post office too. I told them how my internet sales about doubled both of the last two years. They asked me if my paycheck doubled. ROLF !!!!!

I made poor progress today. I ended up moving my email box from one account to another spending several hours fooling with that. It was such a nice quiet morning. That took longer than I thawt and ate up all my time.

Didn't get to the computers until 6 hours into the day. I managed to remember I had to move the label printer and install the drivers for it on the replacement unit. Then turn the old unit off, pull it out and all the cables and the UPS. Now a big hole under my desk on one side. Added a repalcemnet older LCD on the desk top for one of the computers i'll move over, the other won't get one at this time until i figure out how to double stack them (probally buy a braket) I'll attempt early in the morning to move the two computers and UPSes left under there over into that hole I made today and keep them working. That is about 1/2 the battle. Then slip the two new ones with UPSes in the new hole. Then try to make them all work on the correct monitors with the correct keyboards, mice and printers.

my internet wentn out at work 10 til stopping time. The phones were out too which are on the cable also. I didn't worry about it but when i got home my internet was out, same cable company. Panic now as i needed to play my war games and i had some critical stuff to do right at 6pm. By a stoke of luck the conenction came back on 3 minitues til and i was able to finish without messing my plan up. Keith have you tried "tethering" your cell phone to your pc yet? You plug a cable into your cell phone and the other end into your pc, or thru a free app on your Android phone called 'FoxFi' you can do it wirelessly. FoxFi does NOT work on all Droid phones but it does work on a bunch of them. We did it thru my wifes BlackBerry using a cable last year while driving down the road and it worked just fine! A buddy of mine uses FoxFi so his wife can play Scrabble on his drive to and from the beach. One thing though IF you pay extra for your data plan be careful as it is easy to go over using your cell phone. My buddy still have Verizons unlimited plan, they say they are eliminating them but haven't done his yet.

No I haven't teathered my android phone yet. Sprint has a weird plan, and this costs extra to activate or at least it did in the past, i haven't looked back into it. However you can just get 1 month or maybe even 2 weeks. I don't ever need it that much. I could use it on vacation but i go away only 1 week a year and i found last year i ahd so much to do i didn't miss computer stuff, well except for my gaming some but found that starbucks has free access so i could go by there every day and get some done.
Now off to wash the kar and wet the plants.

FoxFi too complicated. Sprint has it removed from the google market. You have to download it from foxfi as an untrusted source. Then it doesnot work in wifi hotspot because sprint has an HTC hotspot lock on the phones. There is a version you can get of some of these but you have to root your phone, and i understand that to mean other apps can get in and cause big trouble. I'd rather not do that. So to use foxfi with the ipad you have to use bluetooth but it doesnot work unless you jailbreak your ipad and install ibluever yada yada yada

too much junk and too many security holes to break open.

This involves applying some Loctite Thread Lock gunk to each screw on each battery terminal, and connecting the wire from the BMS module to it and a 'bus bar' that connects adjacent battery terminals together in series.

Once both BMS module wires are connected to a battery, a little green LED lights up showing that it's working. I hadn't really expected to be putting 'christmas tree' lights in the battery compartment. ;)

This phase should be finished by Thursday or Friday night. Then, this weekend I hope to get it all put into the car!

Originally it was $3800 but the Dealer split it with them after he checked their service records. They get EVERYTHING done there, they even bought their new tires from the Dealer!!! Every 5k miles it was in for routine service, etc, etc. I was surprised they had to PAY for the new battery pack though!

Keith what version of Windows 7 did you get on the new pc's? It could be conflicting with the old and new versions, or not be 'businessy' enough to share the way you want it to.

What year is your friend's Prius? Also, what state was it bought in? The warranty on a Prius battery in a 'CARB' state is 10 years/150k miles. A non-CARB state warranty is 10 years, 100k miles. A Prius battery replacement could be considered equivalent to a transmission repair/rebuild ==> $2000/3000 after 8 - 10 years. I don't know if VA is a CARB state or not.

BTW, there are replacement options available other than having the dealer do it. Notably, ReInvolt who offer a replacement battery for $1875 +S&H and the old battery as trade-in. There's an installer in Ashland, VA (not that I know where THAT is). However, if your friend got half-off at the dealer, he probably got similar to the ReInvolt cost.

I am ROASTING, yesterday it got up to 104F here in my town, same thing in Wash DC! It is SOOOO hot when I walked out to check the mail I thought I had stepped into an oven! Last night some BIG thunderstorms came thru and I had some leaves and branches on my deck this morning, fortunately all small ones though! It is supposed to be HOTTER today than yesterday and MORE storms again tonight!!! It is projected to be above 100F tomorrow too!!! Then ONLY in the low 90's all week!

I am NOT WINNING!!! But I DID get my Nvidia 560 Ti gpu back on line yesterday which replaced an older ATI 4670 gpu. It is cranking out the units for PrimeGrid right now.

I am ROASTING, yesterday it got up to 104F here in my town, same thing in Wash DC! It is SOOOO hot when I walked out to check the mail I thought I had stepped into an oven! The last set of instructions for my Battery kit actually came in handy. By doing the tests it showed (the instructions are pictures...no words...just pictures), I discovered that one of the BMS cell boards was bad. Because of the modular way it's put together, I was able to remove and replace it with the spare cell that came in the shipment without disassembling the whole board.

If I don't get this thing complete this weekend or next week I will definitely have it done the following week. I'm taking the week of the 9th off from w@^k! Not going anywhere...just taking the time off. And...

The last set of instructions for my Battery kit actually came in handy. By doing the tests it showed (the instructions are pictures...no words...just pictures), I discovered that one of the BMS cell boards was bad. Because of the modular way it's put together, I was able to remove and replace it with the spare cell that came in the shipment without disassembling the whole board.

If I don't get this thing complete this weekend or next week I will definitely have it done the following week. I'm taking the week of the 9th off from w@^k! Not going anywhere...just taking the time off. And...

Not much going on this morning. Its hot outside. I did some watering. Just standing still you feel like sweat is starting. I had to come in as the neighbor started his turck and toxic fumes poored out. After they leave and the air clears i'll go finish watering. I hate people that run the vehicles in the driveway, where do the think the fumes go. Especially when the wind is not blowing. Or those people with dieslels that stop somewhere and don't turn it off.

Well it's Moanday.

Got to W... and one of my old computers won't reboot. It runs the fan at high speed, usually it does that for a couple seconds then throttles down, and the dvd light keeps blinking. I turned it off for now. It's always something else to fix. Good thing I guess I got new computers on my desk. It's like it knew it was not wanted anymore and gave up.

I've made good progress for paperwork day. Got everything done, the extra paperwork for statements to customers and end of month reports. I had trouble doing the sales tax again. I had it all fixed in our accounting to generate a nice report that made filling out the state forms very easy, especially since we have to report sales tax for each county shipped to indiviually and there are 100 and some have different rates. I usally only have about 6 with amounts. But the internet sales are seperate now. i had my spreadsheet to figure it, but it was a pain to merge the two set of numbers manually. So i thunk on it and decided it would be easier on the last day of the month to enter a sale ticket in the big system for internet sales after i'm done that day, only i have to do one for each county and one for out-of-state. Its easier as i have my spreadsheet give me the total sales by county and one for everything else. Start a ticket to cash, select the 'county' for tax and enter the sale amount as a misc item, it figures the taxes. It didn't take but a minute or two maybe to enter 6 tickets. We don't need all the detail, just the totals. Then my report is the combined and its easyier to do. Thats out of the way and next month will be easier.

I'm done with my shipments too. Need to run up to the post office, then basically i'm done for the day.

Well, I've now actually installed the first piece of the kit into the kar. The front controller module needed to hook into some wiring under the dash...that is now complete (and the kar still runs!!!).

I plan on putting the full kit into the kar on the 4th...if it isn't too hot out. Temps for the rest of the week are expected in the 90sF. If I don't finish it Wednesday, I should be able to wrap it up this weekend.

Don't you have to charge the In State people the sales tax when they buy something? Isn't that info already in the system that way? I mean somebody has to figure out how much to charge someone, who lives In State and buys something, prior to shipping the item out, right?

Yes, but those sales are already go in our big system, this is what i am merging the internet sales with. It is just the internet sales that is now seperate. No paperwork to speak of. Amazon charges the tax and it's already on the invoice. My spreadsheet only does totals for each sale as i do them, so daily it is not much work. I only need sales tax totals at the end on the month for in state shipments, which are about 6-8 a month, along with a total sales amount to merge with the other slaes totals. Doing it on paper by hand is confusing when you have maybe a dozen differnet counties and maybe two the same to merge numbers, too much adding. When the boss man starts doing kwackbooks it will get worse, but we kan do the same thing at the end of the month get a report out of kwackbooks and just quickly enter a few tickets into the big system for one consolidated - pre totaled computer report.

Well I fell like i'm making more progress. I got many things set up on my systems, and with W7 it is easier it seems to do a lot of the daily tasks. I've deleted many desktop shortcuts, because it is easier to navigate folders in W7. Sometimes even quicker.

Got the misbehaving komputer back online. Just a loose wire, gpu or dimm. I popped a lot of things and unplugged a lot, then put everything back and it fired up ok. It's back in service krunchin some mc.n and gpugrid mostly.

Still much to do with merging data backup copies and still at least 3-4 komputers to finish or redo and get online.

Today is a mini weekend. This would be kool, 2 days on 1 day off. Wish it could continue.

I might go do a little grocery shopping, although i need to do that now before all the tourist wake up. Then its lock the door and hide all day. Stay off the roads.

Can't say I've ever seen anything like what just happened. I was looking at the radar weather map because a thunderstorm just rolled over us. Animating the map, this thunderstorm just appeared out of nowhere RIGHT ON TOP of us!

There is another one heading our way from the northwest, but it appears to be disappearing (evaporating???). Haven't checked the rain gauge yet, but the weatherbug site says we just got .7" in the last hour and the temps dropped from 98F to 73F!

Needing lots more rain still and...

I HOPE you continue getting nice gentle rains NOT the kind we got with 80+ mph winds and more than 1.5 MILLION people without power!! Apparently all the easy people have power now, we are into our 6th day now, and only the tougher people are left. The power companies are saying it may be the middle of NEXT WEEK before everyone has power again!!! Knocking on wood....mine is underground and did not even blink!!

I WIN, yesterday was 104.5F

I was feeling ill yesterday. 'me timbers were shivering, so I put on my light jacket. When I went to the post office i didn't take it off, and it was not very hot to me outside, felt warmish and nice over the inside a/c set to the ice kube making setting.

Must of been the 8 hour bug as I felt better as I went home.

Making progress. Got most of my backup shortcuts worked out on the two w&*k komputers here. Third one still to go. I've got some that merge information from old kwackbooks, old unit 2, old unit 1, new unit 2 and new unit 1 to the primary data drive on new unit 1. Then a copy is made from the primary to the secondary. Then on unit 2 i make a copy of the primary from unit 1 and then a copy to the secondary. At the end of the week and/or month I have more shortcuts that also remove files based on time, like any older than 28, 93 or 379 days. These move to a recycle bin and i have one that empties the recyce bin, not the windows bin, just another folder i call the recycle bin. In the past i did a lot of the "recycling" the manual way in each folder. Now it is mostly automatic. Next i need to set up the third komputer which has larger drives. The third will be the "archive" and keep more older data. The first two I think i'm limiting to the current year or at least back 1 year. I am pleased with the modifications i made yesterday employing some of the new tricks i learned and even made a few better modifications.

Still going through my todo list. I use cut in half index cards now and when i come across something to do, i jot it down. These i can sort on my real desktop. When done, i recycle the note card half. I still have a huge stack of "fanfold" index cards from the early komputer days. We still have fanfold paper here too that hasn't been used in a decade or more. So today i'm going through some old notes, things i wrote down todo, but with the paperworkless and reduced bookkeeping, some of these now are obsolete (related to internet order import) so i think i've cut my list in half and saved kountless hours. A bunch of notes pertain to things to do on the old komputer (backups) which now have been replaced and i've already redone them on the new komputers, so trash those too. Then i've got notes i don't what they mean. I jotted down some password or numbers, no date, no what its for, and i don't remember. Trash those i guess. Some stuff i'm going back to old scholl tricks, digital is just not efficient.

Front controller box is now completely hooked up. That includes an OBD-II connector with a passthru link via a ScangaugeII unit. If you don't know what that is, don't worry...it displays things like RPM and MPG...plus a whole lot more. There's also an ethernet cable that goes to the rear of the car. It's hooked into the box now because I had to screw the lid down tight. I'll run that cable later when I open up the trim to stuff a bunch of cables in there...hope there's room for everything!

OK I think i came up with a solution to getting dead twin #1 back on line. Since for some reason the restore CD refuses to restore, and the RECOVERY partition refuuses to recover, And I want to keep the version of windows because all the drivers for this mobo and hardware are with it, I decided why not try to clone twin #2. Now i know i have stuff somewhere but it was easier to searh the web than through my dvd jumble. I found some freeware and it seems to be rather easy to use. I took the drive sata cable off the main drive on twin #1 and using another cable cabled the drive to twin #2 mobo, powered #1 on so the drive gets power and rebooted #2 so it will see the drive and I am trying the stuff. I cloned the recovery partition in 4 minutes. It is doing what it call shadow copy on the c partition now from twin #2 to the drive in twin #1. It's done 32% in like 9 minutes and says 17 minutes to go. Then i pwoer down and put the cables back in the right place. Hopefully i can get twin #1 restarted.

I hadd intended to buy jsut new gpu's and waterkool them and try to keep the twins running. I may give up on that, buy some new mobos, cpus and memory to repalce them, but not as expensive as the i7's. Then i'm thinking of moving the pair of nvidia gpu's out of each i7 into the new twins. If all that works at some point i'll think about filling the empty gpu slots in the i7's but instead of nvidia i'll get ati to make them inline with the exsisting ati still there. I have to do some pre-shopping and check on some prices and make a plan. First though i want to finish my project at w&*k since i'm like juggling 10, soon to be 12 komputers and that is a lot of system to keep straight in my head. once they are all done and running smooth, i kan empty my head of that project.

Oh this is silly, I could jsut shoot myself.

First I went through about many tries, everything kept giving me difficulties.

The clone software is suppose to make copies while windows is running, this failed 2 times. First i cabled drive from bad #1 to good #2 to try this.

So i decided i needed to put the drives on another computer without tearing anything apart. This too was not easy. I finally found in my spares two different usb-sata interfaces i could use with assorted cables power supplies and an extension cord. I got both drives hooked up to windows 7, hopeing not to blow this unit up. Then i had problems getting the partitions on the bad drive set to the exact size. one was too big or too small and if they are not the same between drives, the software won't copy. so i had to cable the drives back to the good unit #2 and was able to set the partitions to the correct size needed. Then cable them back to windows 7 where i was able to clone both partitons from the good drive to the blank drive.

Finally the test to put the drives cabled back to the correct units.

The first attemp i got ntldr missing. Found the other end of the sata cable was not plugged in mobo. The i got a black screen, twice, where i found i had knocked the video card loose during pluggin in the sata cable.

I turned #2 back on to be sure it still worked, and it did. Windows 7 was still running, nothing wiped out there. [sigh of relief]

So the clone did start mostly but not fully into windows where i got a duplicate name on the network error and it would not continue. So i turned #2 off figuring if i got #1 back on i could rename it, then it got to a certain point and frooze, not getting fully into windows. confused again.

I decided one more time to try the built in restore which wipes out the clone i just made, after all now it is the copy off the good twin so it should work, but then again so should that cd as they are suppose to be the same. This again takes a while (hour) as it installs 26 extra pieces of stuff, most of which i'll want to uninstall. It goes through all this and reboots and for the second go round windows is preparing to start, dots across the screen and then it freezes again. I wait another half hour and reboot and nothing again.

Giving up I go to bed to watch tv. While i'm relaxing something occurs to me, finally, i guess as brain cell #2 fires up. I realized I think that it is installing factory settings and the video board is an add on. I didn't think of it at the time but it might be resorting at that point back to the onboard video, which has no cable plugged in. [DUH] So this morning i find a cable and switch to that cable to my monitor and pulled the addin video board.

Fired it up and got to the windows setup and registration stuff and all the way into a running copy of windows media center.

Well i feel like a dummy. And i had truied about 12 times before to get this going not realizing that onboard video was not plugged in but instead an addin card. I guess in the first parts of setup it uses all video outputs then at some point it switched to only the default which i guess in bios is the onboard.

Well know let me see if i can get the clone folder some way restored in place of the new fresh copy i installed so everything is back i had before, unfortunately i don't think i have any backup copies anymore of these systems since all my stuff had been moved to windows 7 i didn't make any more and think i deleted all the old ones.

Well i'm on the road to recovery....

I've spent most of the day since about 8:00 am working on getting the PHEV kit installed. Thank heavens the weather has held out and stayed kool as well. All the wiring from the front of the kar is now run to the back.

Putting the wiring into the trim tray of the left passenger seat was a real hoot. I had to snake all the new wires on the left side of the tray (as you face forward in the kar) and at the front section of the trim (nearest the driver) run all the wires down under the original wiring and out the side of the tray. This caused a problem since the trim tray is now overfull and won't snap back together...insert a sheet metal screw through the plastic (making sure no wires underneath) and now it stays together.

The rear section of the trim wasn't any problem as I just followed the existing wire out of the tray and into the back of the kar.

I had four wires to run front to back.
1. power cord for charger...imagine an 8' computer power cord.
2. ethernet cable from front controller box
3. Charger HV wires...these connect to the batteries @266v
4. Signal relay for the charger...tells charger the batteries are done.

Now to get access to the Prius HV battery to splice in the new batteries, I had to remove the backs of the passenger seats. Not complicated, but heavy lifting.

At any rate, that's where I am currently with 'rebuilding' the stuff I took apart. I have one seatback mostly connected and the other yet to do. Unfortunately, I've run out of endurance and I have to take a break...which is why I'm posting now.
