I was having a nice morning until.

A HDD just died and took oyut the mobo too. HDD makes whineing noises, spins, clicks, shuts down. mobo puts out one steady beep. I kept pulling parts out and every turn on it jsut puts out one long beep.

So this is really bad news. That was my primary connection to our database for me to do my daily works. A long time ago my backup broke, "I had to unattach it from the domain and it is no longer a domain computer. So i've got to try to reattach it, then reinstall software. All the time while i'm ding this paperwork piles up on me because no one else here can do any. So i'm really in a fowl mood until I restore a computer and then get caught up.

See ya later

Didn't you keep some of those old replaced pc's for times like this? I thought you did, if so just put the drive in as a secondary drive and see if that works, then if it does you just need to install the software and point it to the drive.

The drive is fried. It was my o/s drive. No most of the old computers are still in use or do not have windows xp on them. The new ones replaced nothing really, they were additional computers to operate seperate software from our old accounting system. I do have a spare as I had 2 originally, but it had been undone from the domain and the accounting software so i had to readd it to the domain, reinstall three pieces of software, setup printers on it. A couple of things actually went easier as some old settings were not deleted from it which is good becuase i might not have remembered how to link that. I got it all functioning but then things kept going wrong after 30 minutes of running. I had to keep "end process" software, reboot. Then i realized after a couple of hours, my brain is fried too, and i had stuck the old server ip in the dns, not it's new ip. It had the same ip for 8 years until i changed things around this year. After 5+1/2 hours i got one thing done today, then another hour to do the second thing until i fixed the silly ip mixup. Now the day is shot, i wish i was too. Tomorrow i have to do today's paperstuff.

Now on top of this A printer ran out of ink in the middle of some documents so they had to be redone. then the other guys computer overheated because the fan in the psu was not turning. That's on tomorrows schedule I guess.

There has been an overfaileure of stuff today.

Sounds like it might be time to ask the boss to budget two more pc's just for emergency use. You obviously don't need them BOTH today but it would make life MUCH easier if you could unplug a bad pc and then just plug in one that is fairly ready to plug and play.

That was suppose to be the idea behind my spare. But some time ago it had problems and I had to remove it from the domain to gain access to it. Eventually I found out it was a bad network port, sort of worked but sort of didn't. I put in a new network board but then didn't want to go to all the trouble reattaching. By this time i removed the extra software in a clean up effort. Then we got into new computers. I already got two new ones to replace the spare. But after spending another 5 months setting up new computers I still did not feel like fixing up the spare. Unfortunately in the reconfiguration I decided not to install all the extra domain stuff on the new computers and keep them off of it, so they don't really help in this situation. Now at some point i need to get a new hdd and rebuild the now junker on the shelf as my spare for the spare now running as my primary.

I also am down a gpu as those two older computers had my gpus in them. So for the moment the gpu is on the shelf too. I'm just burned out and need a break from computer repair.

Oh so this morning we went to rebuild the other guys old computer. It fried itself yesterday also. The fan in the psu siezed up and it overheated and the psu blew like fireworks going off. so this morning i found another psu which was 6 years old. I new it worked at one time as i had the green sense wire jumpered for testing. We didn't test it today and guess what, when he stuck it in it didn't work either. So i had to find another one which might be as old, it was out of one of my tow i had upgraded to larger psus to run those gpus. We tested it first then before putting all the screws in tested it. At least everything else in the computer worked. He was able to change that so that took a little off me.

Keith I think you just need to tell the boss you are taking a day off one day and take all the parts you need home with you and get at least one pc up and running from home. Then bring it in and connect it to the domain and printers. At home you will less 'other stuff' interrupting you and can take the time to do it right while not be under pressure to do something else instead.

STILL WINNING!!!

Randy now that it is getting cooler what will your all electric, mostly, do for heat? Do you run the radio and a/c when needed too? If so you are LOSING mpg's!!!

I LOVE John's idea too but need to stay home and get ready for the Iphone announcement to see if it has enough to entice me away from my Droid. There are CERTAINLY some things I HATE about my Droid that work just fine on my wifes 4S model Iphone. I am hoping someone streams the 'event' live.

That would not work as well as noone here would do any of my other work while i'm out so i'd be double busy when i came back.

For now it stays on the spares pile. I need to look though unused hdds and see if i have something that fits in it. It's only a 160GB drive and i don't keep much on it but programs. I may take the second drive, which at this point is boinc only. It was a 320GB partitioned into 2 160GB spaces, but no o/s. backup my boinc. Redo that as 160GB for the o/s and a spare 160GB. Reinstall the o/s from the original setup cd. put my boinc back. load any drivers i need and put my software back i need. At least i woun't have to uninstall a bunch of unused stuff. I had recently done that on the one i'm using now, cleaned it up and got rrid of old prgrams no longer in use. I didn't do the other one as it was in use. I'll stick the hdd in another system and see if i can recover any info from it. Mostly all i lost was some pdf files which i can get new copies of those and all my internet shortcuts. I have an older copy of those, but there too there was a lot of junk in those. I didn't copy them to the new computers when i started using those, i started over fresh. Time to do that again. A lot of the time i don't worry about cleaning up or uninstalling, it seems computers find a way to take care of that by self destructing.

tick, tick, tick. Is that my system counting down or is that the WINNING clock ?

A light jacket, or even a heavy one will do just fine down to near freezing. Below that, I have no real idea except that the pack will be severely impaired. Depending on how much, I may even remove it from the kar like I did with the smaller pack during the winter. No sense karrying dead weight.

So far as radio and a/c is concerned...the radio is not set to 'blow your eardrums out' so it draws very little juice. The a/c (I'm told) draws about 10amps intermittently as the electric kompressor runs. I haven't had to run it since I started using OOG mode so I don't know what effect it would have on my commute.

[edit]As of this morning's kommute, I'm getting 204.2 mpg on this tank of gas. I've used 6.4 gallons of gas so far and I doubt I kan go more than another kouple of weeks before I have to fill up.[/edit]

John I am too busy to meet today, I have to update and backup my Netbook today, the process has already started, and that will take a few hours as I have not done it since the middle of June! It's more a traveling laptop than an everyday thing so it just sits under the coffee table and waits for me.

Keith I was just thinking of isolating your pc job into a one time thing to just finish it and then move on, not w*&k on it for the next 3 weeks 10 minutes at a time. When I was working I was the same way, I was THE GUY, there was no one else, yet sometimes I just told my boss I will let these things pile up so I can FINALLY FINISH and be done with this other job. My boss was understanding and yet sometimes he said no, then he explained why and that TODAY was a bad day but tomorrow might be better, we always worked it out. Sometimes he even dropped the job on someone else and I no longer had to worry about it, I realize that is probably not your situation though. But maybe if he sees your 'full plate' of work maybe he will give something to one of the other guys FOREVER!

Does it get more often as you get older John? Here in the Colonies it is a Colony by Colony thing, for instance in December, my birthday month, mine will go from the current 5 years to 8 years before I have to do it again!

I ordered a new Iphone 5 this morning!!!! I am tired of my Android ALWAYS locking up on me while my wifes Iphone, a 4s, can be right next to me and just keeps humming along! Mine is a 4gLTE phone and hers isn't and mine is STILL SLOWER!!! I got the 16GB model which is the cheapest at 200 bucks with a 2 year contract thru Verizon. They said it will be here BY next Friday. A friend of mine, a former 6 figure AOL guy, stood in line for the 4s on the release day, FOR FOUR HOURS, and one of his friends who had ordered it online stood next to him with his in his hand! He had gotten it a day EARLY!!

I've been up a kouple hours now.

I was gaming and watching a streaming movie, when .... internet went out. It happens. Usually it takes about 30-60 minutes to resume. So since I was awake and nothing to do, i went and mopped the kitchen and bathroom floors. They neded to be done but I kept putting it off as I was always gaming.

Well now back to fun things while waiting for a winner to show up....

Hey I have the same temps today, right now though it is down to the low 70's and it is time to open the windows, it is 6:10PM now.

I had a fight with my wife this morning and did NOT go to breakfast today nor did I go to a scheduled dinner at some friends with her either! I am REALLY angry at her right now and just don't want to be around her!!

But I am still WINNING!!!

Actually, yes it does! It means you are sending less transportation related $$$ to terrorists than I am. I don't have enough info regarding your other petroleum related purchases to compare them.

Anyway, we BOTH are...

Well, the off season is 'ere.

Internet sales where good. End of last week I should have been over 50% of average and ended at about 57%. This week I should be at about 75%, and for the first time since the beginning of April, sales have fallen behind as i'm now at only 70%. Not bad but the first time it's been behind schedule. Even so sales are still up over last year this month.

I've been busy scavaging up new items to sell and get my listing done. Next season (Spring) I plan to restock a lot of stuff and have another banner year.

Back to not winning.

It's Friday again and time to rhyme,
indeed, it's time to take a bath in cold brine.
But, before that happens a WIN I'll need,
to see of this scratch and the resultant bleed.

It is supposed to hot until Sunday then only about 70F thru Tuesday then back up into the mid 70's, everything subject to change of course! It is time for the F1 guys to be in Singapore this weekend, a tight twisty street course that in the recent past has favored the Red Bull cars. After the 1st practice you will never guess which Team is fastest...Red Bull!!! Though McLaren is 2nd with Ferrari just behind in 3rd place. The 2nd practice comes on in about an hour and of course everything will change as at the end or the 1st practice some VERY dark storm clouds were rolling in, F1 still runs in the rain though, but with the narrow streets it could be interesting!

Keith CONGRATULATIONS on your internet sales!!! I hope you can keep it going thru the 'off-season' and maybe even have some 'sales specials' to keep it interesting. Do you guys include a calendar in each internet order, or offer to sell one on each sale? Something like 'with your order for just 5 dollars more you can get our 2012 calendar full of summer time beach bunnies, it will make you wish summer was still here'.

I tried calendars before. Problem is a lot of orders are small items that if there was a calendar on the order, would require a larger box and more postage. Also too I had a comment to that they should be offered as an option as some people (or thier wives) might find it offensive. I did try a promotion once to get a free one, but you had to put the code in to get it. Never saw one appear on an order over 3 months when I did it. So basically I nixxed that idea.

I'm putting stuff on sale now. When were busy I have too much to do, but now that it is slow I'm looking at items and lowering some prices, trying to klear them out before next spring. Also I have more time now so I could handle more orders.

I'm also looking at listings of items that don't sell and fixing some of them up more, adding more description or klearer text if I kan.

Still I'm hunting around for more leftovers to add to the katalog. It takes a lot fo effort to list one item as I have to find the description, price and all the details, weight, dimensions, models it fits, yada, yada, yada. But repeat sales if I have more than one or get more are more easy as I only have to change the quantity and not redo all the details again. So I try to do items that will sell and repeat first and then get to the one offs.

I'm still selling parts for 10-13 year old stuff. I regularly sell things that are 2400, 3500 or 4500 days old. The average item turnover is now at 697 days.

Today a customer brought his 26 year old unit into us for repair. And yes we still got parts to fix it, sometimes new never used parts. But this past year sales of new units was very low as everybody wanted to buy used or have rediciously old things fixed. Our pack-rat supply of parts is really run down.

Remember old is the new new.

Too much info John!!!!
they make pills for that now you know!

Keith on the calenders I was thinking more of a spend this much, get an option to get a calender too. That way the larger box would be worth it.

I had a LARGE Birch tree taken down in August, it left some dark black marks on my roof, yesterday a company came and cleaned them off! I didn't even know they could do that until I called to have my driveway pressure washed and they looked up and said...! It looks NICE now!!! Got rid of lots of the green stuff too that forms due to the way my house sits and the fact that parts of it never see the direct sunlight! I also have some of those strips you can put near the peak of the roof that thru a chemical process will deter the green stuff from coming back. It was inexpensive and hopefully an easy fix.

I ALSO got my iphone5 yesterday! It is MUCH lighter than my wifes 4S and is FASTER too! I am still setting it up and in some ways it is a pain, everytime you download a new app you have to put in your AppleID AND password! They are an email address with a password, what a pain!! I have NOT tried most of it, I am just starting the process and it will be several days, at least, before I am done. It has itunes on it, do you use itunes to play your music though...NO you don't, you use the music icon! itunes takes you to itunes STORE, not to the music on your phone!

I sit in front of my pc's for over 4 hours EVERY day, having one in my hand is just an extension and more convenient thing. It also means I don't have to REMEMBER to do something later, I can do it NOW when I am thinking about it. BTWmy new Iphone5 is MUCH better than my Motorola Droid was at just working! I could click on an icon to do something with the Droid and it would just sit there and do NOTHING alot of the time, and it was a 4gLTE on Verizon! My new Iphone is also a 4gLTE and it just WORKS every time!! There are NO delays when clicking on something, it can also work on 'N' wireless networks, I have 'G' wireless.

As for F1 you guys missed a heck of a race, Sebastian Vettel in a Red Bull won with Lewis Hamilton of McLaren breaking down while in the lead! Jensen Button, also from McLaren, coming in 2nd and Fernando Alonso of Ferrari coming in 3rd! BOTH Williams cars broke down in the race while doing well, they were BOTH in the top 10 out of 24 total cars, they seemed to both have hydraulic problems. In F1 cars lots of things are operated by VERY high pressure hydraulics, from the valves in the engine, springs are WAAAAY to slow for engines revving at 20 THOUSAND rpm. Hydraulics even operate the rear wing slots that open and close at various times during the race, making the cars even faster for passing!

It was cheaper for me to 'bundle' when I got Verizon Fios so I AM still on regular phone lines, I still have to dial '1' to call outside my own area code, but Verizon 'says' it is not. When you press them on it they come clean and admit it is NOT using the internet to make phone calls.

I have the Comcast 'bundle' that includes VOIP. It really DOES use the Internet. However, I never use that line. I have a separate ATT landline that I have and will continue to use (even though it costs me extra). I have that one because if the power goes out, the ATT line will continue to work, but the VOIP line will die after 8 hrs when the Cable Modem battery runs out of juice.

Yeah my Verizon phone does the same thing, it has a battery and they say it too will die if it is out that long. BUT I also have a Magic Jack phone, I got it for traveling, that will work as long as I have internet. My wifes work encourages her to "tether" her BlackBerry to her pc so we will always have internet even if over the cell phone network! She has tethered it to both her work laptop and our personal laptops too, and they said it is okay! It is cool doing sleeping reservations while driving along at 75mph! I drive while she reserves our place for the night. I don't like pre-planned stops as what if traffic is bad or even good and you either have to drive until midnight or stop at 4pm?! I like driving until about dinner time then stopping for the night, it makes for more on the road time but when we are done for the day we are done! We get and eat breakfast in a restaurant, then lunch is in the car, then dinner and done for the day. I get gas and she gets lunch to go, I drop her off and then pick her up when I am done.

WIINNING after a long dull dry day heading for an Osteo Hospital consultation. Waiting for the hospital car, logging in to the consultation, getting several X-rays and then returning to the consultation then home pretty well wiped out the day until now.

Positive news is that the left upper arm bone is thickening up, and I can now dispense with the protective arm support. However, the same cannot be said for the right upper arm bone thinning where the cancer is. I need to continue wearing the restrictor until things happen over there. I am chewing 4.5mg of Ad-cal-D3 a day to calcium plate the bones, and will see if it is working in 6 weeks time. I have an X-ray request to be processed before the next Osteo consultation, so I hope things will move quicker this time.

Now I have to put together an argument for support towards the technology of replacing commercial power cable ducting runs with a superior fire performance at the same price. This needs to be together and to the commercial R&D company before I meet them at 10.00am tomorrow.

I was trying to add here John, I take 1500 mg's of Calcium per day on my own. I think you must mean MG's instead of mg's, I THINK the caps means 1000 times as much! I am almost 60 years old and had low calcium so the Dr. put me on a Calcium supplement every day AND I take a Vicodin a day, along with a handful of other pills. Since Vicodin depletes both Magnesium and Calcium, making for lower leg cramps that wake me up at night, I take 3 Magnesium/Calcium/Vitamin D-3 tablets per day, the Mag is 1000 mg while the other 2 are 500 mg's each. I then ALSO take a 2000 unit Vitamin D-3 pill per day, but it doesn't say how many mg's, just that it is 50% of the Recommended Daily Allowance. My Calcium level is now back into the low normal range. All that leads to HANG IN THERE JOHN!!!

Randy it is a good thing MicroCenter is close, it sounds like you are in for a lunch time 'road trip'!

Randy it is a good thing MicroCenter is close, it sounds like you are in for a lunch time 'road trip'!

WINNING!!!

Well, I could probably make it there and back during lunch time, but I'd lose my spot where I plug-in. And it's out of the way from my home commute. I think I'll try my luck at the Best Buy about 3 miles from home. I may pay a little more, but there will be less traffic and it's closer.

I have 3 pair. 2 are the same for reading (1 daytime use, 1 for home use so i don't have to carry them around back and forth) and then a progressive pair for like driving between home and the other place. My cost was about 900 bucks for them all. They better last a while.

I have like 10 pair, some are drugstore 'readers' and some are prescription ones. The prescription ones are both distance and reading and one even has 3 levels in it for the computer too! Those last ones are not as easy to use as I had hoped, I am always moving my head just a little to keep things in focus. So for the computer now I am back to using some with reading and mid level no far away stuff. I can still see fine to drive I just can't make out any letters when it gets too close anymore! The 'readers' are only 5 to 10 bucks a pair and I use them ALOT as it just magnifies the text and if they break I am not out alot of money. I am up to 2 on the scale though, so I am getting worse!

I am STILL WINNING though!!!

Yes but my eyes focus differently, so those dollar store ones won't work for me, unless I got lucky and found two pair that were different and would be able to use one lense from each.

The optometrist says I'm developing a cataract in my right eye and it makes my eye get blurry randomly. So there's no prescription that will make it right until it's removed.
Catch 22: Medical won't cover it until that eye is all but unusable.

Between bites of spagetti, checking for winners. I hope if any show up they don't slip on that piece on the floor...

---

Well this months sales were not bad for internet sales. Our season has ended until spring. I did keep more in stock this year. The past 2 years my sales dropped by about 50% for this month. This year I dropped some about 20% over last month but I hit 99.45% of the monthly average.

Oops, he slipped on that stay piece of spagetti and fell over-board.

Update time.
Updated windoze on 4 computers. I t don't do automatic, usually i do udates on weekends but sometimes i skip several.
then there was adobe on 1.
then itunes x2 which lead me to backup my ipad and then update to ios6 on it
then my HDTV needed an update

Now since update to ios6 all the apps need updating. This is pretty easy on the ipad as it tells you which ones and you just hit update and ok. I think too i might be able to do that thru itunes or online.

I haven't updated my android apps in a long time, i got tired of the too frequent updates. But since the screen is so small it is easier to update via google play on the computer so i figured while i'm at updates, lets get them all, there where like 72 out of 98. It shows all my installed apps and i just click , update and ok on each one. it pushes the update to my phone and it is automatic from there. i can even install apss after searching fer 'em, which is a little easier with a full size screen and keyboard.

So i added some emergecy apps. A poilce band scanner, hurricane tracker (knock on wood, we didn't get any this year) and a red kross shelter finder, just in kase an emergency ever blowws this way.

well, time to go check the plants. So far this year i've harvested 3 bell peppers and they where fist size. There might be about another dozen that size or smaller. I have 3 red hot peppers. I had maybe two dozen mini tomatoes. And i have 3 watermellons which if I ate all 3 at the same time would have a mouthfull.

I HATED updates on my droid! It seemed like EVERY program wanted to update every time I turned around! It is the end of the month so I did my Malware updates and scans on ALL my pc's AND the updates. Starting the 1st my automatic monthly backups will start for each of my machines, one machine per day. Two of my machines backup internally, all the rest backup to a 2TB drive in a networked cruncher. I have a separate directory for each machine so I can keep track of them all and ensure they actually did their backup. The network backed up machines get each drive in each machine gets backed up as an image. The machines that are backed up internally, to their own 1TB drive, are incrementally backed up. One machine, my Server, is backed up DAILY as that is the only option in its internal software, it auto deletes the old version as it makes the new one.

Keith don't forget Gas Buddy and a Flashlight app, those are two of the several I used on the droid and now use on my Iphone too. There is even an app to show where the cops have radar setup if you are interested!

I got a warning my phone was running low on space !

I had to move some apps to the sd card. You can't move all apps, only some of them and it only moves a portion of it, not the enttire app. Also apps run or loaded from the sd card load slower, so mainly i picked the lesser used ones. I do need to review and maybe delete a few.

Then even though i keep the photos on the sd card, i deleted most those to just clean up. They are already stored on my computer and in the kloud backup.

I have flashlight.

Don't use gas buddy. Who cares. I have one palce i stop at and get gas and pay whatever it is. It's not like i can go in and haggle for a cheaper price. I don't spend time running all around town to get to the cheapest place. Do you really save money by going out of your way to get somewhere else ? My time is more precious doing things i like to do. When i get gas the palce I go is on the way to ____ and is not off the road any so it's not out of the way. I stop in, pay at the pump, fill up and go on my merry way.

I do have one of my games on my android. Crime City as of the three it was the one one with an android version at the time. The other two Modern War and Kingdom Age I play on the ipad. Altough now Modern War is now available in an android version. You can play these on the iphone too. They are addictive and i've been playing daily since January. They are simple but do require some strategy to get ahead and i like to think. Most of it now is collect money to spend, then wait for an hour to go by. I'm at the point wher it takes several days to collect for the next thing. I only play Crime City on the weekends when at my desk so my phone can be on wall power. Next time I travel though I will be able to play when traveling anywhere. My ipad requires me to have "Free" wifi access so that currently limits me.

It is 50F outside right now and only going up to the low 70's today with a possibility of some light rain later on. Tomorrow it is supposed to rain most of the day, sounds like an inside day to me, but I may have to go out. I bought a new laptop hard drive for a friends machine I am working on and it isn't working! I may have to take it back and get a different one.

Keith I live less than 15 minutes from the 2nd largest Shopping Mall in America, Potomac Mills! That means that within 5 miles I have over 3 dozen gas stations and within 2 miles I have over 6 stations to choose from. MOST of the time my local Sam's Club, BJ's or Costco is cheapest and they are all only 3.7 miles away and on the way to almost anywhere! As of right this minute gas at all 3 is 3.62.9 per gallon and it is the cheapest around. No I do NOT ALWAYS go that way but I DO when I need gas. At my weekly lunch with the guys it is 47 miles round trip, I also have a monthly luncheon that is about the same round trip mileage and it too is North of me so past the Mall, which is where the 3 stations are. My Doctors are also near the Mall, MOST things are near the mall except the grocery and hardware stores. I TRY to stay out of the Mall itself and only use the stores around it. The Mall is a HUGE half circle, so wherever you park you are walking past what you have already seen to get back to your car.

That would work if it had a basket for packages on it! That might even be a cool business idea! But I think a shuttle bus going from entrance to entrance would be better received and easier for the general public.

Having a Mall that close to me would frighten me, taking account of my wife's shopping habits. This caused me problems over the years. So, it is lucky that the nearest Mall is in Nottingham 30 miles away.

Oh we go over that way ALL the time, but the grocery and other stores we shop at most are closer to us. Also since it is just off the interstate, the M5 for you John, and I live South of Washington DC it means we have to pass right by it alot! My old w*&k is 1/2 hour North, my wifes old w*&k is 3/4 hour North and West of me, even my parents and sister live 1/2 hour North of me. Her sister lives a couple hours North of us too, but her mom lives a couple hours West of us. We moved 25 years ago and got twice the house for only 25 grand! The area has now grown up around us and we are now in the middle of everything. Her mom and sister both live in more rural areas and have trouble getting cable or even more than dialup internet, me I have Verizon FIOS! The Mall came AFTER we moved in but it WAS 'on the drawing board', so it was not a surprise.

Winning as my 2 way satellite provider has upgraded the maximum download and upload speeds at no additional cost per package. When this month is done, and we know where I am going over the barrieer nursing/stem cell treatment, then I willl upgrade from a 10Mbps download maximum to 18Mbps.

WELL DONE AND GOOD LUCK JOHN!!!!

I wanted to tell Randy I HAD to go to MicroCenter today to return a bad hard drive I bought to replace a friends laptop hard drive, while there I saw an 8 core AMD cpu with an AsRock mb and memory bundle calling me to it. I bought them and am now flat broke for the rest of the month, well almost I have NO paper money but I DO have a bag of quarters I have been saving for a rainy day. They are only worth 25 cents each so not really worth holding on to. I ALSO have 2.5 water cooler type jugs of pennies that are full and could be turned into cash if I REALLY had to. I am still adding to the last one then I will need another jug. My son put 20 dollars worth in one time and by the amount it went up, almost not at all, he guessed it holds around 600 dollars worth in each jug. I collect coins and STILL check each and every one for older Wheat style pennies.

WINNING!!!

Winning as my 2 way satellite provider has upgraded the maximum download and upload speeds at no additional cost per package. When this month is done, and we know where I am going over the barrieer nursing/stem cell treatment, then I willl upgrade from a 10Mbps download maximum to 18Mbps.

Speaking of bad hard drives, i had to power down one of the old twins, it was squeaking. This weekend i'll play with it. it does have some extra drive still running, so first i'll unplug those to see which drive it is. Hard to tell with three in a cage with a fan blowing on them which one is squeaky!

Dang, the other one is dead too, no video. Maybe just a windows thing a reboot would fix.

Maybe it's time to retire those. They are at least 8 years old now.

Those are old backups which should be fully copied to the new computers. Really at this point probally i should carefully review and wipe them and turn of the extra drives.

If the main drive is bad I think i'll just retire it or maybe both of them. I'll keep all the good parts but for now keep them as spares for some future project. I don't feel like rebuilding and i don't really feel like buying more new stuff now.

Yes. And it's so complicated from what I started with back in the early 80's, Ouch I've been doing this over 30 years now. I surrender. It's not fun anymore. I need a new jacket with long long white sleeves that wrap around my back.

I was really hoping for that Hammer !!!

There is too much stuff in this business. I'm still adding leftover stock items. I've added about 40 in the last few weeks. Also too i'm going back through other items and putting some on sale trying to get rid of what is left before we go out of business which is where were headed if people don't buy something. At the same time to i'm reviewing listings looking for typos and improvements, sometimes adding search terms so people might have a better chance of finding it.

During the summer i had no time to work on these things, now all i do is have too much time to work on them.

Well it is now almost 7:30AM so I MUST be WINNING!!!

Keith have you thought about a 'sale a day' or week or however long an item lasts type thing? Say for instance you have 12 widgets and are not selling them or getting any more, ever. Put them on sale at a good price until they are gone, then do it for the next item etc, etc until things are gone. I am not talking regular sales prices, I am talking bringing traffic to the site prices! Plus removing old inventory prices. Something to get the people to check the website every day or week for the next item. Some prices could be below what you guys paid for them, if they are just too old or so out of date they aren't worth keeping anymore, other prices could still be at a profit for you just not the 10,000 % profit you guys usually make. I am being silly on the numbers, OBVIOUSLY!!

I broke amazon again. This happens to me a lot, i "submit" some data and the website i submitted it to goes down. So while i have a moment of free time let me tell you a story....
I have a sale "year"
I have items on sale all the time, that is prices listed below our normal sales price which is below the "suggested" retail price. These "sale" prices i constantly add to items for various reasons and they may last various periods. We don't do that "week-end" holiday thingy. We do it all the time.
#1 Yes to get rid of them more quickly than they have been moving
#2 Yes to attract people in, sometimes called bait.
These last various periods or sometimes until i run out. I do have to put in dates, but at the moment i have a lot to run out 12/31/2013. Other run out sooner and then i may review and then put on sale again, or not, sometimes even lower than before. The longer stock sits on the shelf the more likely it is to get a lower price, still abovce cost, but i have sold things before below our cost because it is evident that is the only way it is going to sell and a little real money in the pocket is better than potential money sitting on the shelf. You can't eat with "potential".
In the amazon store and lsitings, you see the sale price, but there is now way to get to a "sale" page. however in the webstore, i do have a "specials" tab and under it are many catagories, clearance, specials, sales, closeouts where people could find bargins.
However most items we sell are more like "required" items than luxuries or impulse buy items. You don't impulse buy them and wait for your gadget to break like a computer. In out business people only buy items when the one they have breaks, either to repalce it or fix it. The economy being down too makes it more so.

I wish me made 10,000% as i'd be retired !!!

Hey that works for me, and I WAS thinking of the 'specials' area on the stores webpage, not the Amazon one. And I think if you really made 10,000% you'd still be working and raking in the cash as long as you could.

Heck if they'd of offered me a 10,000% pay raise I would have come back after my mandatory break instead of taking the lay off as I did. But there was NO WAY I was going to stay when they wanted me to change from a 'pc tech support person' to a 'personal assistant' for some lady I did not like in the first place! And then do it all for the same amount of money too! NEVER gonna happen!!! I ALWAYS told my boss that the 12 bucks an hour I was making was keeping the wife happy and giving me disposable income for more computer stuff! I make enough off of my retirement to pay the bills, along with my wifes salary, and now retirement, so I did, and do, not NEED to work! Now if the economy would come back I would sell this 5 bedroom house and move into a smaller one, but at the prices right now my house is just not worth selling! I AM considering moving to a more 'retirement income' friendly place, but still not until the economy improves and my home value goes back up closer to where it was.

WINNING!!!

Yeah Mikey, your home only has value if someone wants to buy it, otherwise it is worthless.

I have a whole garage full of worthless stuff, want to buy some ?

I hope I can do as good as my dad did. He retired at 55 in 1975 (I was 12). Now at 92 he still has money and recieves more in retirement benefits in a month, sitting on the couch watching tv, than I do with my nose to the grindstone. That included keeping mom happy when she was around.

I figure i'll get one social security check before they go broke and i fell like i'm gonna have to keep working until i'm 92, if it doesn't kill me first.

Hey there's a white van outside with some men in white suits. they're coming to take me away. [runs out back door...]

Just passed a major milestone with this tank of gas on my car+battery: 2000 miles. The Scangauge says I still have 1 1/2 gallons of gas left too!

As fast as fast kan be, they kan't ketch me.

What a rough week. Sales numbers for average end of day for this week look like +5%, +0.05%, -3.5%, +7.35%, +7.71%. For the week I should be at 25% of average and I actually am at 23.84% now, so not too bad but it feels worse than that. luckily i got one of those rare expensive items sold, which makes up for the lack of sale of about 5-6 medium items. I only sold 14 items this week. During the summer I sold 12 on jsut a weekend.

I am however making good progress at building up the katalog of items, but still with no end in sight. Who knows I might finish it before next spring. At least the work keeps me busy and from going nuts.

Actually, the MPG listed by the kar tops out at 99.9 mpg. My true mpg as of this morning's commute is 233.1 mpg. I suspect I will need to get gas either this weekend or sometime next week. I'd like to hold off until Oct 7th so I can make two full months between tanks.

I find my ScanGauge II gives readings a little higher than actually, when refueling, just like yours.

I use the miles per litre as a fuel consumption, as multiplying the figure by 4.5 gives me the miles per gallon.

A frustrating and a slow/no progress day has just nearly passed. So, I am now WINNING

I don't have a scanguage, but I did buy gas today and looked at the gas pump meter and put in 13.004 gallons. I can do the math in my head. last fill up was 17 days ago so on average i use 0.75 gallons a day which is 3.03 bucks worth. Lunch costs me 2.00-2.50 if i buy the on sale meals. Don't know what it all means except someone in WINNING

My boss tells people he use to own a diesel suburban and that he could fill up the tank and drive from virginia to jacksonville florida. Sounds impressive, but he never says how far it was or big the tank was. It's a lot more than todays 10-15 gallon vehicles. It's about 500 miles and I'd say he got about 22mpg highway.

I left out of my post, i probally drove 175-192 miles on my 13g, so i get about 13-14 mpg city. i seem to remember my long trips to florida i got in the low 20's but it's been now 5 or 6 years since i last drove that far.

Now at 6am i've done all my paperwork for the day. Sun is not up yet so i can't go out and water plants while they are sleeping. Humm. I know, to save on gas i'll do some internet shopping !!!!

I did that same trip from way up here in Northern Virginia, 20 miles South of Wash DC, and it took me 12 to 15 hours, it has been a LONG time, but it took WAAAY more than a single tank of gas!! I was in a Dodge Caravan and it was not good on gas! We were doing the college visits for my oldest son and hit 2 or 3 in Florida and some others here and there on the way back up to home. He ended up at JMU, about 2 hours away from home!! He finished up there and then went to UNC and got a PHD in Chemistry and is now making more TO START than I did at my highest when I was working!!

Keith I usually get around the same in my '04 Honda Pilot, sometimes a little better but not much. My wife can get in the low 20's on the hi-way but I can't, I think she is just a less aggressive driver. I like to make decisions while she likes to just let things happen. She often ends up behind people who then do crazy things where as I would have been in front of them, doing those crazy things!

I found a screen shield for my Iphone yesterday online, it cost $1.00 and the shipping was FREE!! I bought a case for it last week for $15.00 and it too shipped free. I like shopping online! I even bought my self a new electric airsoft pellet gun to encourage the squirrels to find some other place to hang out. My old one was not shooting all the time especially if the batteries were not brand new. The new one was only $34.00 and should last me another 5 years of more. I am NOT interested in killing the squirrels otherwise I would use a CO2 pellet gun, I just want them to remember it is scary to come here. When I do hit them, accuracy is NOT a part of $34.00, they jump into the air and run away faster. But just shooting near them with the pellets bouncing off the branches etc. seems to do the trick. Don't get me wrong, I shoot AT them, the gun is just so inaccurate I don't normally hit them! The pellets are plastic and biodegradable so I am not worried about them. I even bought some paint splatter ones but since I can't hit the squirrels very often the trees were getting painted and I didn't want that, so most of them are still in the little bottle!

Cloudy and cool here. Temps are on the downhill slide to Brrrr(!) until next Spring. Precipitation is a hit or miss thing. If it keeps up like last summer it will be a mostly miss affair with minimal sn*wfall...

WINNING!!!

[edit]Just filled the kar's gas tank:
2084 miles total driven
8.88 gallons of gas used (I think this may be a little low...it's cold and didn't get a good fill)

I just got back from the grocery store. Big load as I hadn't been in several weeks and was out of a lot, no more meat, pizza or dairy products. Got lots of baking supplies and filled the frig. Forgot the milk.

Among that was 9 bricks of cream cheese, 4 pounds of butter and 10 pounds of sugar. Some will go into cheese cakes. One thing I make this time of year is with that and some pumpkin is "Scream Cheese Brownies". I've got several other pumkin dessert recepies.

After the lost data reconstruction I Got my old computers running yesterday. Fortunately one was just some loose connectors. The other with the whinning HD turned out that it was the second spare (oldest one) so unplugging it for now is just fine. That drive is a 7200RPM drive and the newer ones I got the 5900RPM Low Power ones. Those twins still each have the now extra 1TB drive and a spare 1TB drive. All the data has been moved to the new computers. i need to proof it and be sure i have it all. I did migrate boinc to the low power drive on each of those. What i want to do though is pull all the 1TB drives for future use in some other system and stick some kind of older smaller drive in to run boinc on. i did that with me new computers, they both have an older 250GB eide drive which i put boinc on. I have a pair of 500GB drives in the cabinet and maybe 4 250GB drive in an old backup drive enclosure but i'm not sure if they are EIDE or SATA. For now they're hanging in there as is, not bad for 8 year old computers.

Kold temps this morning played havoc with my battery pack, not to mention the kar's normal battery. Had to switch the pack off twice because the kar's komputer kouldn't handle the voltage swings it was going through. Don't have stats yet, but I'm sure the performance was kloser to 100 mpg than to the 234 mpg I averaged on tank #2--see those stats in my previous post. But even 100mpg is an improvement over the 58mpg I got without the pack.

WINNING!!!
[edit]More goods stats here as well. Total BOINC is approaching 20 million credits![/edit]

Randy 20 MILLION is good!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Keith you should include three brownies in each walk-in sale the store makes, get some foot traffic in!

It as cold here yesterday and is even colder this morning, it went down to around 54F yesterday and is now down to 45F right now. It is 8AM and is cold and cloudy!! I made a big pot of chile-mac yesterday and had 2 bowls for dinner, it is DELICIOUS!!! I take Carrol Shelby's mix and use beer instead of water. I also brown the meat in beer and then add extra beer, in the beginning, as it sits in the crock pot all day. I used a total of 3 beers yesterday to make it, I use Budweiser to cook with and Dos Equis Ambar to drink, right now. I was drinking St. Pauli Girl but they don't carry it at my local Sam's Club right now.

Well in order to be un stressed, you need to reverse that and stressed spelled backwards is desserts. More for me.

I haven't had an alcoholic drink now in almost 6 months, 3 more days to go !!!

I seem to have discovered we have water on tap and it's very good on the rocks.

Looks like both sides of the pond are cooling well. Autumn is here and Winter accelerates towards us.

The temperature here dropped to 6C (41F), and Cairngorms, in Scotland, has -2C (28F)

It is in the mid 40's outside right now for me, at 7:15 AM, but here in the house it is a very pleasant 70F and although I do have the heat turned on so the house does not go below 40F, it has not come on at all yet! I guess that depends on whether you have gas/oil/or electric heating. Of course, if the furnace isn't running now, you must be using 'electric' heating via PC.

I had a mini blackout myself the other day, the power blinked and I had to reset my Verizon router AGAIN!! Every couple of months it seems I have to reset it, using the paper clip method, and then it works fine again.

I find it is good to unplug the power for a minute on these things once in a while. I try to do once a month but sometimes two goes by. I've had things not work and it seems that even a hard reset sometimes doesn't even help, but an unplug allows memory to drain off and any stacks, caches, buffers and registers to clear and then a fresh power on it works fine. In other words, these cheap things have buggy software that hiccups once and a while and without a complete power off it doens't reset and over time those hiccups build up until, it needs burping.

I got my cable modem and router done last night while the cable was offline. Since it took so long and i know it was out at work and home, i suspect someone cut a major artery somewhere. There's a lot of work going on and someplace is laying some new cable as there's miles of those little yellow flags growing out of the grass in one sort of straight line.

So on to...

Well. today i've had more than normal orders for a Friday and 4 out of 5 came in today, not overnight which when most are placed. This was the best sales day this week, which also is unusual, usually monday wins becuase it counts all the weekend sales. Manageing to barely stay ahead, ending the week at 5.87% ahead of average which is not really good, but also not bad. Even with the slow down, my sales are still more than the previous 2 years this month. This will be month 35 of my "experiment".

Continueing on weirf Friday, I got two more orders after my last post, but before the end of the day.

I'm still increasing my catalog, i added more items. Some I can't beat other sellers prices, but you put them there anyway. Sometimes people will see you have a good price on one item and even though the other item is not they buy it anyway so they get both items in one shipment from one place. Other times the other sellers run out of stock and then suddenly you are the seller with the best price able to ship one. Also the more you have showing selling, the more you look like a legitimate industry seller, not just some guy selling one piece of that thing.

I don't shop at those places, like AZPerfume that also sells GPSes. What business do they have selling elecroncis. There's a bunch out there that sell such an assortment of things at such cheap prices, they just sell boxes and if you ever needed help or advice, i bet you would not get it from them.

Well anyway, This is the weekend, so my w&*k half of the brain is switched OFF to save energy, only the FUN side is ON and looking for a WINNER.

Round one in Kitchen Wars.
- Preparing dinner. It felt like ti,e to start making chili. I've got many recipies but on such short notice, without running to ths store, only had the stuff for one. Actually it's one i like with ground beef, italian sausage, tomatoes, chick peas and of courge chilli benas. i usually add something else, today was white Korn. it's in the krock now simmering for 8 hours.

Round two will be after lunch.
- Kreme de Mente Cheesekake. Just restocked on Kream Cheese last week. I've also got a good supply, 24 pounds, of Chocolake Kookie Krumbs. I like to bake. Well it's more I like (need) to eat, baking is just a means to an end.

There will be a feast tonight.

I am suffering this morning with allergies!! I opened the windows on Sunday and my head is now hurting!! Actually it started hurting on Saturday and hasn't quit yet! I take a Tylenol every 4 hours and it lowers to a dull, manageable pain and then comes roaring back reminding me to take another! If I take a Naprosyn it seems to recede to a dual roar for 8 hours or more, so I normally take that instead. Besides too much Tylenol is bad for your liver!! Something is bother me and it happens every season, I have 'seasonal allergies' meaning each season it is something!!

Keith just stay away from Coke or Pepsi! They have been found to have alcohol in them, low levels of course, but it is due to the chemicals used to make the products. The generic sodas do NOT have the alcohol though!

Randy only ONE more game to go and the Tigers are in the Series!!!

For a while after I suspended my liquer intake I was still drinking just soda, then I thawt why ? It was just mixer for the liquer and mostly water anyway. So I tried tap water. It was good water. Water is life. So I decided not to restock on those heavy cases of sodas as by that time I figured I'd given up liquer. I did do some cranberry drinks off and on, i might continue with those off and on as they have some good things in them, but mostly i'm staying with water. I do like a soda with pizza but that is not a daily thing.

Tap water is bad for you too, if i drink like 8 liters a day every day for my entire life adult i have a one in a million chance of getting cancer. I'll risk it.

I drink distilled water, which I distill myself (saves $$$). If you've ever seen the stuff left over after distilling tap water you'd swear it off too!!!

Is that like the white crusty stuff that develops all over my fish-less tank. I switched to plastic fish as they are less maintenace and last longer.

Sales are up and down. Yesterday was not a total loss. Sold one thing for 1 buck, not including shipping. A little is better than nothing. Amazingly I had six orders overnight but nothing expensive. 3 out of 6 were old or clearance items and the last ones of those, so that at least was good. So today is in the low range too, about 1/5th of a monday. As of now, i'm -1.97% below average, barely hanging in there.

The sides of the boiling chamber tend to get a white crust on them, but the bottom turns yellowish-brown. Looks like mud or worse. I have to use vinegar to clean that junk out every 3-4 weeks. That's after rinsing it out every time I refill it.

Water is chemicals and that is what you guys are seeing, the chemicals. SOME of those chemicals are good, as in fluoride for your teeth, some are bad as in chloroform bacteria! Randy you and the kids/grandkids NEED the fluoride as it helps prevent bacteria, do a search and see if it is removed thru the distilling process! I saw a study just the other day that said that over the last 4 decades people have increased their life expectancy by over 30 years!! That is solely due to living in the bigger cities and the products they provide AND the fact that people are now talking better care of themselves thru chemicals! The people in rural areas are not getting the RIGHT chemicals in the RIGHT dosages so are not increasing their lifetimes as fast! Big cities tend to provide both sewer and water thru pipes while rural areas tend to dispose of that stuff onsite, leading to cross contamination!! Also farmers have been putting stuff on their lands for dozens of years now and some of it is either going into the food they eat or the water they drink. BOTH in higher dosages then city dwellers get! City dwellers get other chemicals but right now they are not having an adverse effect on their lifespan! The expectation is that the weight alot of city dwellers are carrying will have an adverse effect in the near future, but as of yet that hasn't happened enough to show in the stats! In George Washington's time people lived into their 50's and traditionally DIED, people in the 21st Century are living into their late 70's to early 80's!! Back in the time of the Egyptian Pyramids it was safe to say MOST people died in their late 30's to early 40's! MOST kids NEVER saw their grandparents!! That is partly why having kids EARLY in some parts of the World is a tradition!! Have them early or never have them at all!!

Remember I went to Microcenter and got a mb, cpu and memory 2 weeks ago...well today I was going to build it, but it turns out trusting the salesman was not the best idea. He sold me a single pci-e board instead of a board with dual pci-e slots as I asked for, I now have to go back and get a different board!! That is a 45 minute drive each way not counting the time in the store!! Going to Microcenter is kind of like to Fry's...you can't go for just a quick in and out, you need to 'experience' the whole thing! If you haven't ever been Fry's, the one in Vegas anyway, is H-U-G-E!! It is soooo big they have 23 NUMBERED checkout registers!!! There is no income tax in Nevada but the sales tax is 10%, so you have to be careful what you are buying if you are traveling!

WINNING!!! I guess I am anyway.

What a messy morning.

Came in to one computer making a Grrrring noise. Widows had said before that the HDD had gone funky. Fortunately it was one of the backup drives and not the main drive. Those were old anyway. The same ones I had problems with not long ago and pulled them out of the external usb cases and made the HDD into an internal sata drive. Luckily not long ago I got tboth installed and set backup and copied all the backups left one one to the second, so I still have a good copy. Even so those two large drives are a copy of the backup drive on another computer, which also has a second copy and then anouther computer has two more copies. This particualr drive though also has more older backups on it to. I suspect that it might be time for the other drive to fail as it was the same age. I think i jsut get two new internal 2TB drives to repalce both of them and be done with it.

So while that system was down, our kwackbooks unit, i figured i might as well appply the update to the new version while i was working on it, shouldn't take too long. [pulls foot out of mouth] It took 2 hours. Turns out after installing i have to rebuy the second license, register and then reapply the new license to all the 5 computers, after installing a new copy on all of them. I spent the 2 hours mostly on the phone as there was some problem on thier end and also thier system was running slow.

And heres a laugh. Since kwackbooks was down, my boss decided to klean out under his desk. He found a box of 3-1/2 floppy disks and wanted to know if i had any use for them. I don't think we even have a system online that has that type of drive anymore. Think about it, its been that many years since he kleaned out under there. Now you can ROLF.

Sort of winning as my crunching RAC drops slightly.

I wanted to swap my HD3850 to crunch Rainbow from Collatz, but I cannot get any work. Swapped back to Collatz and the same result applies, despite resetting the project as well as detaching an reattaching.

Randy THAT is a GOOD thing!! AND CONGRATULATIONS on the Tigerd SWEEPING tha Yankees!!!!

My overall Boinc rac is rising too but mine is rising more because I am not bouncing around from project to project right now. I STILL have not made it to MicroCenter to replace that motherboard, but it looks like Monday may work for me. I am contemplating putting another pc online today in preparation for the new 8 core when I replace the mb. I need to get my wife used to seeing another pc someplace.

I've now got a minimal Win 7 install done on the SSD drive. It DOES boot faster from an SSD drive, but I'm not sure how much of that is due to the drive vs not having much of anything installed (application programs) on the system yet.

It appears the quad has problems with the ATI HD5970, and I cannot boot the dual P4, on W2K, to desktop. You know the story.

When I finish this pan European R&D project bid for €1.25 million, then I will invoice and have the money to sort things. I am happy to leave it until then.

Randy I went to Microcenter yesterday and swapped the motherboard for the RIGHT one, I had originally gotten one with only 1 pci-e slot and now have one with 2 pci-e X16 slots. I also swapped the memory I bought originally, a pair of 8 gig HIGH power stick for 4 4gig lower power sticks that saved me 30 bucks all by itself! I hope to start building it today and finish up tomorrow when the pc it replaces is done crunching, I have set it to NNT but could abort them if I need to.

Randy I have both a 1090T and an FX6100 Phenom and LOVE them both!! They are BOTH 6 core cpu's and are excellent crunchers. I have 2 gpu's in the 1090T but for some reason, probably me, the FX6100 hasn't worked with more than 1 gpu in it. I haven't put alot of time into figuring it out as it crunches just fine with all 6 cpu cores and a single 5870 gpu in it.

John I think that sounds like you can call up your local pc shop and tell them to 'just fix it' when you get that check!!

Tech tip of the day.

I just got inturupted because one of our repair "technicians" can't get on the internet with one computer. I don't even ask what they were doing anymore becuase it will take him 1/2 hour to tell some unrelated story before he even gets close to the point. First step was to close everything he had open and reboot. Try ie, No joy. So next i decided to see if i could see another computer in the net-hood like the other computer on his desk that is connected to the internet showing the sports scores, relly important stuff there. No joy. Humm, lets check the network connector. Oh it is plugged in, but not into the board with a light on. switch connector to socket next to GREEN light that is on. Refresh ie and wow, it works, imagine that. Walk away quickly mumbling i've got other things to fix before he starts a story.

Today is so boring. Sales are down near the bottom of the fishing bucket. I was doing good but had ZERO orders yesterday and one one this morning so i'm 8 percent below average now.

So I have plenty of time to work on product listings. which i've done a lot over the past days (weeks). Today i though i'd do something different and put some time into some webpage improvements, adding some company logos and about text. It is necessary and useful, however it is tedious (aka boring). The easiest way is to visit every manufacturers website and download a new logo, edit it for my library, upload it to the shopping site, then find the brand name page, insert the image with links copied from the previous visit to thier page and fill in link text. Then with text i've borrowed off thier about us page it gets inserted into another spot and a little editing to add paragraph markers. Lots of chasing the mouse around and doing the smae procedure over and over. I think i've done about thirteen which is maybe half. Time for a break.

That's why i like to visit here, as that pumpkin color on all the pages here give my eyes a refresh from so many other boring colors.

Winning as I actually seem to be making some progress against the SOA ...

Good to hear.

I made progress today also. I had a few partially done over the past two weeks. Today, even though there was a busy spell in the middle and one order that took me an hour to make special boxes and pack this afternoon with the sun coming in the window, no ac on, its 79 plus in here. I actually got all 26 of my vendors on the website fixed up with a logo and a link plus some text. That was more than I expected to do, I thought I would do about four done. It was a quiet day otherwise.

The next part a little more time consuming will be to add subtext to the subcatagories, describing what is in that catagory. Unfortunately there can be from zero to twenty under each vendor so I have no idea how many of those to do. This ends up on my todo list and i'll try one or two a day but who knows how many i can get done the next slow day.

At some point I need to go back and fix up our homepage with the same logos and links, but that will be easier since i've already got them all saved.

Time to declare Eight Bells and sign off

I am awake now as it is after 8AM!!!

Keith it sounds like lots of good stuff being done on those pages!!! I used to code webpages and it is tough chasing them down and tedious too, but it IS better when it is all done!!

I setup my first meeting with the financial guy at my old fire department work place. I am turning 60 in December, meaning I MUST switch to regular retirement, and we need to have a couple of meetings to go over what will and won't happen. I have a lump sum of money that apparently will be coming my way plus some other options we will be discussing. My money is in the stock market, mostly growing, so it is not the same day to day. I should have enough to live on until the end with some left over but how much depends on those other options that I am not clear on right now. When I get the lump sum I will be giving it to a financial adviser to manage for me, he just has more info and options than I do. I know how much the lump sum is, I can track it on a webpage, but am still a little bit nervous!

Kieth are you ready for Sandy to come see you in the next few days? I HOPE so as my guys are saying it could be a doozy!!

From what I'm hearing in the forecast, the 'S' word is being thrown around. Especially the further North you live.

Yo Ho Ho, Sandy can't blow me down. Not really ready, We've not had one in October since i've been here, the season is suppose to be over. I am bringing some plants in as this is th normal time anyway, i might need to accelerate my plans.

Well the webpage stuff is not hand coded, now it is drag and drop a widget, then fill in a few details in the widget. Some of it though I can hand code features so it is good to now basic HTML. I do mostly paragraph tags in what i'm doing now.

In the past i have written my own websites and done it all by hand, not tools used at all, only a book or lookup reference on the web.

Sales picked back up slighlty. Yesterday I got rid of a 1995 item which we lost money on, but recovered some so that is just as important instead of loosing 100%. Today i got rid of three items that we've not had too long but they are from 2009 or before vintage. A couple pieces were from one of those closeout lots.

Remember those closeout lots we bought. On one after 14 months, i've sold enough to to pay for the lot, anything left we basiclly make 100% on it now. I though we would do better than that, time wise, but things happen. I feel that figure is accurate.

The other two lots i show i've sold 63%, but there was a lot of it i'n not sellingand we sold out the front door, but i didn't keep track on those sales, so i know we've done better and probally already passed the 100 mark.

Oh back to the webpage, i'll let you see it tomorrow if you want to, i usually only publish changes once a week.

Well while i'm on this, i decided to go ahead and fix some things up. I did a bunch of the subpages with descriptions. Then I noticed a couple of the vendor pages with logos needed a fix so I did those. I got stuck on one vendor that the image would not download. Seems they used a blue background and then paste a white ghost image over it so their logo is white letters on blue. Getting frustrated i suddenly remembered an old trick. ctrl + shift + prtscn, then paste into paint, crop it and viola, i got the visible logo. So i'm thinking while i've done all these and it's fresh on top of my last brain cell, i should do the logo/links on the main webpage. did all of those replacing the few previous logos only. Then there is this AIS page i started but never finished. Well it's finished now with map, text and logo/links. I've run out of things to do for a while and i'm not even tired today, just bursting with energy.

if you want to see the webpage work, its up now. http://meob.com
All the vendor logo/links will be down the left on the front page.
The AIS there is a link in the blue menus bar above the logos.
Check out the contact us page, the photo is our storefront. My desk, not in the photo as it was built after that photo was taken, is gonna be just to the left of the left most window at the front inside of the store. I can see out all those windows and doors.

Cee Ya, gotta find something else to fiddle with....

I Love it Keith!!! I used to HATE using a text editor to build webpages BUT I did learn alot that way!! Once I spent 30 minutes trying to find a single period I had left out!! Of course until I found the missing period I didn't KNOW I was missing a period!!

Hey Randy I saw a radar map this noon on the local news and they showed the remnants of Sandy coming ALL THE WAY to Erie PA, that is not THAT far from you!! My youngest son went to JuCo there so I know where it is on the map. Soooo maybe the "S" word IS coming your way!!! It WILL be cold for me later in the week as it drops down in the lower 40's again at night, and only the mid 50's during the day! I have the heat set at 40F so until it gets that cold inside the house it won't come on. AND with the pc's in the basement if I just open the basement door it should NEVER get THAT cold!! Besides I could always turn the floor model a/c that is down there off and it WILL get warmer!!! It is in the lower 80's even with the a/c unit running 24/7!!

Why should I have all the fun. I've sent Sandy on her way towards Mikey and Randy. Maybe she'll Kiss us on the way past, but to us that will be a lite breeze. I'm going out to get pizza's tonight, it's party time.

Looks though like all my brothers will get some of her. One lives in Hampton Roads Area, another up the coast on the Rappahanock River and the third up in Harisburg Pa.

Mikey don't forget that the track they shoow is the center of the storm, it can extend 100 to 300 miles out from that. You'll get some windage and rainage I'm sure. Heck where it ends up in PA I might still get rain from it down here.

We seem to be experiencing a Sand(y) Storm. The first rain band came through, started about 10am and now ended at 12:30. The flags outside were pretty striaght out, but i don't worry until it starts to rip them off the poles.

Remember a while back i said i installed some emergency apps on my smart phone, well i'm getting alerts from the Red Cross one. kOOl. There's a little red huricane that appears at the top on my icon bar. Right now we have "Tropical Storm Watch". I guess it means sit down and watch the storm.

Oh I know, I am ready, I think, for whatever comes my way. My house is near the top of the hill and I have plenty of bottles water and chili mix! I can last awhile!!!

On another note I am FINALLY building my 8 core pc today. Turns out I had a abd power supply so I had to take down the old pc it was replacing AND I had NO spare Sata drive. I am installing 64bit Win7 Ultimate and took down a pc with 32bit Win7 Ultimate. I do NOT have any more licenses for the 32bit so am going to keep that drive for awhile, just in case. I went to the local mom and pop pc store and got a 500gb Sata 6gbps drive for $70 and Windows is now installing from my USB drive. I will end up with 2 AMD gpu's in it too, 6850 and a 5770, I hope anyway. Right now it is a generic 128mb pci card just to install Windows, I like using it because the Windows drivers just work with it.

It is 5:30AM and 60F outside!! It is going up to 68F today but will only be in the mid 40's on Tuesday.

Randy the pc is running and crunching on all 8 cores but the cheapy gpu is still in it for right now. In a couple of hours I may go down and drop at least 1 gpu into it that can crunch. I MAY change over to Malaria units at that time, right now it is running WCG units.

Since Malaria does not support gpus, you also need a project on there that DOES use one.

@6:42 it is 39F, going up to around 50F.

Oh I have another couple hundred million to go on Moo to get to a billion, then I will move to another gpu project. I am not sure how long I will stay at Malaria this time, but I DO need to test the new machine and Malaria is an easy project with consistent units.

I put the 1st gpu in the new machine and all was good, so I put the 2nd gpu in and BOOM OUT GO THE LIGHTS! I reset the breaker and set one machine NOT to come back on, and all the others except that one, are now running just fine including the new one.

I am waiting for Sandy to come visit me, I should be okay as soon as I move the stuff off the deck, which I will do tomorrow morning. It is in the mid 60's right now and could be in the mid to LOW 40's Thursday and Friday. I will also be making a big pot of chili tomorrow morning after the race, just in case the power goes out. I can always use my grill to warm it back up. The Weather Channel is now saying Sandy will come ashore near New Jersey, so I am on the South West side of the storm. We will see.

I hate that, let's quit fooling with the time. I woke up at my normal time and my klocks are korrect without fooling with them.

Weather: More wet than before with continued wetness. 94% Humidity. Wind has doubled in strength to a gusty 23mph. Sandy is closing in now at 334 miles but is moving more offshore, now at 159 degrees instead of 180. This is what the "outerbanks" does, they deflect the weather.

Now on to my 3 online games, which is why i woke up...

It is cool at 7:30 AM here at 60F alot of humidity and a small breeze blowing. It is supposed to start raining a little bit later on then on and off until it picks up as the storm gets closer. The wife and I will do a little last minute outside moving of stuff today then we will be done and waiting for the storm to come thru.

I have setup my new pc to start crunching for Malaria, it download a BUNCH of units and they should start within about an hour. I am trying to get thru the last of the WCG units I downloaded before I concentrate on Malaria for about the next week. After that I am not sure where I will put it, the ones I want to crunch for all have 'issues'. Eon can't handle the increased load, Rosetta can't handle both cpu AND gpu crunching on the same machine, etc, etc.

The F1 race in India is over and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull came in 1st, with Fernando Alonso of Ferrari 2nd and Mark Webber of Red Bull coming in 3rd. Vettel is not 13 points ahead of Alonso for the Championship with 3 races remaining. The winner of each race gets 25 points going down to the 10th place person getting 1 point, so it IS still close and up for grabs! Next weekend they are in Abu Dabhi at a more reasonable, for us East Coast viewers, 8AM race time.

I have finished my first Malaria unit and did it in about 30 minutes! So the pc is SCREAMING thru the units, 8 at a time, and with a 0.75 day initial cache and a 0.25 day additional cache I have A TON of units on the pc!!

My mother-in-law lives in West Virginia and lives alone now in a single family home that OFTEN loses electricity for days at a time. We are TRYING to get her to go to the local hotel tomorrow morning and just stay there for a couple of days to ride out the storm. The hotel has an onsite/inside restaurant so she won't have to worry about anything except staying inside. She is in her mid 80's and has Parkinson's but refuses to admit it! A couple years ago she sat in her house for FOUR days without electricity and NO PHONE waiting for the electricity to come back on. A neighbor FINALLY checked on her, they were out of town, and took her home with them. They had a generator, so HEAT, and said my m-i-l was WHITE and VERY cold!! We tried to convince my m-i-l to get a propane generator for power outages, but she refused saying 'I have always made it thru so far'!! The generator for her would be LESS than 10 grand, and she HAS the money. We even told her it would be a GOOD selling point for the house when she HAS to move. She WON'T discuss it, she OFTEN does that when the subject involves danger!

My sister-in-law and her family live near Allentown, Pa, which is near ground zero for the storm, and they TOO will NOT even CONSIDER a hotel!! They live in an area that HAS flooded before, they are near a HUGE damn that has has been forced to open to keep from breaking in the past, AND they now have a 6 year old kid. I hate to say this but it is like dealing with what Forrest Gump said..."you can't fix stupid"! I think they are making poor choices, but it IS their choice to make!! A couple of days in a hotel is $150 bucks, to save a life or even make life easier, that just seems like a no brainer to me!

WINNING!!!

Well the storm is throwing us a fit now. Electricity has glitched a couple of times, the UPS beeping as it kicked in for a microsecond woke me from my knap a moment ago. The storm is still 304 miles away to the SE. It's moved about 250 miles since this mornings first report, but as it is not heading directly for me it's only gotten 100 miles closer. My guess is about another 9 hours until it is just passing me.

It probally will keep me up all night.

And you don't want to be out in the rain, it's very cold rain, not to mention the wind is driving it with some force.

After my 3rd knap of the day, wether check. Yup, it's still very wet and windy.

The storm has advanced north more, but, it's farther away. See the outerbanks has done its job and deflected it. it is now 312 miles out from me.

I've been watching random movies. After each one there are popluar choices below it, i pick one that looks interesting. Appropiately one I picked next is called "Storm", only it's not about a wether storm. I think i'll put it on and take another knap, I learn a lot sometimes while sleeping.

Actually i had to get another kup of koffee so I can stay awake and do some gaming....

A Moanday mourning that is really a time of mourning...Tigers are down and out after 4. I pretty much expected it after the game 2 wimp-out.

Current temp is 40F and pretty much steady for the rest of the day. Winds are forecast to increase towards evening with gusts 40-45 mph and 70% chance of rain.

Sandy looks to have finally turned north from it's Northeast track...starting to head for mid-Atlantic/New England landfall.

Sitting well West of all the ruckus and...

Wakey, Wakey. Wow, it's still raining. Although during the night it sounded less stormy as I faded in and out. But the storm has not passed. Checking now it is 292 miles out at 90.59 degrees, so it it is almost even and will soon be passing my latitude.

It is almost 7AM and it IS raining but nothing special or to write home about. The radar shows it JUST higher than Cape Hatteras, so JUST past Keith, so it is ALSO getting closer to me. The chili was good last night, I left the spice packet out of it but my wife put 4 cans of kidney beans in it. I also had her make a pan of cornbread, I LOVE cornbread with my chili. We make cornbread from scratch! BUT that also means NO chili-mac this time around!!

Randy I was sorry to see the Tigers go the way of the Nats! I had hoped they would do MUCH better, as in WIN!!! But I guess the old saying 'been there done that' DOES help as the Giants won just a few years ago so had some 'history'. The Giants seemed to play more loose and free but at the same time focused. The Tigers made some silly mistakes and their two big guys didn't really do much in the playoffs. As you get closer to the end you really MUST play better and better as the competition is also better and better. Maybe next year both the Nats AND the Tigers will do well again!!

I am now WINNING!!!

It hasn't fully left here yet, but I see the thing has turned and heading for Mikey. It's been raining and windy here now about since Friday evening, nonstop, that is over 48 hours. It is like 53F outside now. Mikey, you can have your cold air back.

There is lack of activity here today. Not a single customer or phone call, although i did have 7 internet orders from the weekend to fill. There is a shortage of beach bunnies roaming around. I'm thinking do to lack on interest, i'm going home early.

ps,
I'm home now.

Gonna make some hot chili, koffee and then find a blanket to hide under.

THANKS Keith!! It is about 50F here right now but should go into the low to mid 40's overnight. FORTUNATELY I am NOT in the snow area, they are talking up to 2 feet in the Blue Ridge Mountains!! I am sitting here listening to the radio and the Va. Governor JUST came on saying Northern Va is now the target area instead of Atlantic City, New Jersey!! WOO HOO time to ride out another hurricane! MANY years ago I was in Virginia Beach and rode one out in a 'on the beach' rental beach house. It leaked like a sieve, we had pots and pans EVERYWHERE, but made it thru with no problems! It got a little scary at times when the wind came thru and the windows rattled, but otherwise we were fine.

Weather, i don't know. It's still dark.

I have a mild flu, was sweating all nite long and shivering under the blankets, everything ached. I tried to sleep around 9pm but lay sort wide awake until probally 1am. I changed the damp sheets this morning and took a shower to clean off. i fell better at the moment. I may go to work but leave early.

I see a water spot in the closet where water forced it's way in around the dryer vent, or through the vent and it has leaked out the hose. It's done that before in these driving rain storms.

It is STILL raining but not like they said it would be doing, the wind stopped. mostly, around 11PM and after that it just lightly rained. It is now 6:30AM and it is 42F outside! I am guessing they got HAMMERED by the snow in the mountains if it is that cold here! Yesterday I saw pictures, on the news, of OVER 1 foot of snow and that was ONLY mid afternoon!

Keith did you get your flu shot this year yet? I have not but need too! Did you guys know that OVER 30 THOUSAND people DIE in the US every year from the flu or its complications!! The flu shot prevents the worst of the complications and NO ONE has died from the flu or its complications, that has gotten a shot, in YEARS!! A SMALL number of people that are allergic DO still die from the shot itself but no one can figure out why they got the shot in the first place. Did they 'forget' that they were allergic or just not think about it?

Wet, cold, and windy. Current temps in upper 30sF, going up to upper 40sF this afternoon. On and off rain and lots of wind. Gusts are 40-45 mph.

Yesterday was a disaster for my mileage. Battery pack was practically useless on the inbound commute. When I charged it I only put in .66 kwhs, when I normally use 3.25 kwhs. Then going home I had to take the highway to go pick up my granddaughter's cousin from elementary school...lousy mileage there: only about 85-90 mpg. An hour after that, I had to take the wife to a Dr. appt...more highway speeds and low mpg. Later in the evening after a full charge, I went to the drugstore on all-electric...YAY!...about 3.5 miles round trip. As of this morning's commute, my average mpg for this tank is 160.8 mpg over 854 miles traveled. Current gas consumption is 5.31 gallons. The odds are decent I can exceed 1000 miles before I refill.

This is odd, the gray sky is turning baby blue with white cotton puffs, there is a bright light coming from somewhere. i'm told don't go toward the light.

My plants did not look good this morning, they kind of look like i feel. I should have brough more inside. I did move some out of the rainy area but some i left out, they look sad.

I'm sad today too as this would be my mother's birthday.

I heard two of the fishing piers are damaged.

The road up North is flooded. This is not the road by the beach, but the main road. It sounded like some of the dunes beach side are washed away, hence, nothing to stop the ocean from advancing to the main road which up there is about 1000 feet away.

Traffic jam

This would be about a mile south of the flooded area, my house is about a mile south from that and work another 9 miles south.

My wind has died down and it is now 42F at 8:15AM going up into the low to mid 50's for today and the rest of the week. It turns out the lady who told me about it being 37F here was talking about NIGHTTIME temps, NOT daytime temps!! My house is 68F this morning and the heat has not kicked on yet, it is STILL over 80F in the basement. Fortunately I never lost power or anything, although it did sorta blink a few times. The light bulbs would dim and come right back, all in less then a second, so the power company must have been suffering someplace. I have florescent bulbs EVERYWHERE so I too am saving SOME energy, not like Randy though!! CONGRATULATIONS Randy on the your EXCELLENT gas mileage!!

Keith after Randys post I refreshed the page and the traffic moved, COOL!!! I don't see much damage though, you guys got off very nicely this time around!! I have not looked at all of my roof from the outside yet, but there are no leaks inside that I can see.

I think they have been reclassified as "serfs", floating in the waves somewhere. They could even be "landed". My humor is not as dry as yours.

Yeah I am very GLAD the F1 race this weekend is NOT at that time, they might show reruns DURING the race! The televised race events are actually at a decent time on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings, 7AM.

ALOT of leaves came down from the trees and are just laying EVERYWHERE, the sun has not dried them out yet so they are kind of stuck. The sun is supposed to say hi again this weekend and they should mostly move on. Right now it is 43F at 8AM going up to a high in the mid 50's later on.

If you get up at 2am and set your klock back to 1am, then you'll have to get up in an hour at 2am and set your klock back to 1am again. You'll be stuck in time repeating the same hour over and over again.

My internal klock does not have a reset, what that means is I now start waking up at 4am instead of 5am, I won't get any extra sleep.

I went to sleep early and woke up late today, so i've got extra sleep stored up and can skip the clock reset thingy. Beside, all my 'puters, ipad and smartphone set automatuically by internet time.

Oh, i'm so busy today and no time left to do anything since i'm repeating myself every hour, or was that yesterdays chili ?

Sales are booming as today i've sold over 3 times the amount of yesterday. OK u got me on that, yesterday was $3 and today was $10 bucks.

Just harvested some sweet potatoes. Got some odd shapes and sizes, but that's what happens when you grow them in a pot with limited space.Got 2 at 12oz (3/4 pound), 2 at 8oz and 3 at 4-6oz plus a baby. I tried not to break some of them off, but it happens. There are 3-4 more babies ileft and i'm transplanting every thing now into a later tub and hope it keeps growing over the winter. Sandy really did a number on the palnts, the've looked worse and come back so i think they will. I still have the second tub to see if I got any potatoes in. I've been moving stugff in. i have some tree's to repot, split iup the 2 or 3 smaller ones into seperate pots and nusrse them along inside thru winter. Peppers come in soon.

I have some rubber backed carpets, area rugs i put but not enough to go all around and then i have some other old rug i use. I intend to go buy entra tray bases for them, but get one size larger. then when inside they will have double babes so if one overflows it has a second one to flow into. This does happen, osmetimes unnoticed and i've rotten holes in some of the extra rugs.

I took all my outside plants down last week when it dropped into the 40's, today it is 38F outside and 57F INSIDE! I opened the basement door, to let the heat come upstairs better, and it feels warmer already! Even with the a/c unit running 24/7 down there it is STILL warmer than up here!
