    hi :)

    new user since some days.
no problem with wu or other opt task.

now i have an issue with an opt task :
    http://www.malariacontrol.net/result.php?resultid=21775013

after 1.5 hour of cpu usage for this task, the progress % is still at 0.000%

    what should i do ?
    drop task ?
is there a way to solve the problem ?

task still on, waiting for your answer, advise ;)

Optimizer tasks use a wrapper for communications between BOINC and the science application. This wrapper application is unable to show progress reports from the science application to BOINC, so the progress report will stick at zero percent until it\'s done, then it\'ll shoot to 100%.

In BOINC it also won\'t show that it is checkpointing, but in reality it is.
So nothing to worry about, all is working as it should.

Don\'t know who came up with the idea that not reporting status was a great idea, but I have deleted multiple work units thinking that data set was corrupt... suggest rethinking that choice! How does one differentiate between work being done and a hung process without reporting? BAD!!!! -s

Or before downloading lots of them you could\'ve checked the forums to see what is the expected way they work in.

This thread has been regularly updated with all the information about the optimizer tasks.

The wrapper makes sure that projects do not have to rewrite a working application from one programming language to another, a time consuming and costly operation.

If you don\'t want to receive optimizers, either set your project preferences so you don\'t want to run test work, or specifically tell you don\'t want the optimizer tasks. Update MCDN through BOINC Manager and the next time work is asked, it won\'t get optimizers.

How does one differentiate between work being done and a hung process without reporting?

Simple. If the application still takes CPU cycles in Task Manager (or similar for other OSes), it\'s not hung. You can also try an exit of BOINC/restart of BOINC to check what is happening in Task Manager.
