hey, I downloaded the BoincDV program because I wanted something that I could monitor long term debts and things like that. Most of the other manager programs seemed to be geared towards a network of multiple computers. Since a) I am fairly new to BOINC projects and not all that computer literate and b) I am only using one computer for my BOINC projects, I was looking for something fairly simple. So I have two questions:
    1) I can't get this program to work. Does anyone have any experience with it? It says to extract the boincdv. exe file into the BOINC folder, which I did. Then supposedly you just click on it to open it up, and it will work. But nothing happens. It says I might need to manually load the client_state.xml file, but I don't have this file. What is wrong with that?
    2) Could anyone recommend another manager program to use? Again, I dont need one that allows multiple computers, since I have only one, just something simple where I can look at long term debt and things like that. Mainly, I'm just curious about that.

    Thanks!

If you've just downloaded then run the downloaded file and you have the right permissions it will do everything for you. You do need to reboot your computer after the very first install to ensure the right permissions are picked up, then you just need to attach to a project. You do this by going into BOINC Manager, go the Menu item Tools and clicking on Attach to project.

      Hope it works for you.

      Live long and BOINC!

Which version of BOINC are you using? If it is version 6, then the instructions for BoincDV are a little different, in that you will have to install the boincdv.exe file into the data directory, rather than the program directory. If you need help with this, could you let us know which version of Windows you are using, as the data directory is different on Vista to XP/2000.

Okay, here are the basic instructions for Windows XP and BOINC version 6. I apologise if these are too basic, but I don't want to assume any knowledge.

Open My Computer. On the menu bar click Tools - Folder Options. Click on the View tab. Look for the Hidden files and folders option, and set it to Show hidden files and folders. Click Apply, then OK. Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC. You should see two sub folders called projects and slots, and a number of files. Extract boincdv.exe into this folder. It should now run. I would suggest creating a shortcut to the executable on your Desktop or My Documents, then resetting the hidden files and folders option to the Do not show files and folders option.

Hope this is helps and is clear. If you have any problems please let us know.
