Posted by Nick on behalf of Viola:

    Dear Malariacontrol.net Volunteers,

We recently launched an inquiry about motivations and expectations linked to their participation in Malariacontrol.net. So far, we received a little over 1000 responses. For those who already filled in the questionnaire, many thanks for your participation! For the others, note that submissions are still open and we would love to hear from you.

This is the link to the survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=bfyPC3nHo_2fC5gOxUWaGW6g_3d_3d

What will we do with your answers? First, we are analyzing them, studying trends and reading all the qualitative data for ideas and feedback. In a second phase, we are planning to publish the results in form of an analysis and scientific article.

Regarding confidentiality: we will treat in a confidential fashion any personal answers, contact details, etc., which serve solely the project and its evaluation and will not be used in any other way or communicated to third parties.

    Kind regards,

    Viola Krebs of ICVolunteers.org

Hmm, I appear to have missed this entirely.

      Where/how was this inquiry launched?

I got an email a while back, no idea how I was selected though.

The invitation went by email to those malariacontrol.net users who allow being contacted by us by email. You can change this preference on the website:
Your account->malariacontrol.net preferences->Is it OK for malariacontrol.net and your team (if any) to email you?

to opt in or out of future email notification (we don't plan to send emails frequently)

            Thanks Nick.

It's fixed now. Had no idea it was turned off. Hope I haven't missed out on any other important messages from the project.

For those who have not seen it: This study is now published in "FirstMonday", a peer-reviewed journal on internet studies:

Viola Krebs: Motivations of cybervolunteers in an applied distributed computing environment: MalariaControl.net as an example

Thanks again to everyone who did the survey!
