Hi.

Add me to this group of errors, they are only on these long tasks run on (Branch B) v6.57 app

i don't have any trouble with v6.58 or other projects that have longer tasks!

Some are taking up to 12hrs to finish, what a waste.

Hi,

Those task are not different from the one you got before :). Except maybe that, they are quickly computed. But you'll see a lot of them during the next few days. By a lot, I mean 186 000 tasks :D.
To be valid for a publication, the results of the experiment needs to be run with 100 differents seeds. That explains the large number of task.

Hi.

I have noticed that for some reason the app keeps downloading every time i get new tasks. This could happen a couple of times a day, any idea why they are not persistent, i mean like for the same tasks, this is the one i'm talking about today.(see below)

I get a few tasks and then later when there finished it gets more new tasks after the others are returned it downloads the app again. This is a waste of bandwidth i think.

This is on both my Ubuntu x64 rigs, if that makes a difference.

P.P.L., you say the file is not empty when you open it directly with gedit? Running editors in sudo mode is not really recommended. Try the following:

VISUAL=/usr/bin/gedit sudoedit /var/lib/boinc-client/client_state.xml

Hi hardy.

Yes when i right clicked on the client state file it looked normal, the way i

tried to edit using gksudo is the only way i had found after a lot of searching

that worked in the past. I'll try your idea next time if i have to edit it

again, i'm no expert but what i think happened this time is, the reason it was

blank that gedit was trying to make a new client state that's the only reason i

can think of for it being blank.

Now what i did to fix the d.c.f. was with gedit open with the blank file

still there in the first tab then went to file open and found the REAL client

state file and just opened it in a new tab and edited it, saved and rebooted

and now the d.c.f. is back to what i would call normal for this rig.

Try the following sequence:

stop BOINC.

edit the file client_state.xml in your BOINC data directory using a plain text editor.

search for the string malariacontrol. That should find the line <master_url>https://malariacontrol.net/</master_url>.

search for the string duration.

change the value between the XML tags to 1.000000. The line will end up as <duration_correction_factor>1.000000</duration_correction_factor>.

save the file.

restart BOINC.

Without that change your DCF will very gradually return to a reasonable level on its own (by around 1% every time you complete a task).

Sorry if i sound short with you , but did you not read my last post.

I'll say again that when i opened the client_state.xml it was EMPTY, i don't know if i have to try editing the client_state_prev.xml file first.

I just don't know why it's doing this, i have edited it on another rig before without a problem.

I was hoping that someone with Ubuntu had the same problem and had fixed it.

I'm still running Ubuntu 8.04 & Boinc 6.2.14 on this rig, yes i know it's old i'll
have to update shortly anyway.

I couldn't find anything on these forums on how to edit the d.c.f, i did elsewhere
but the funny thing is when i do ( gksudo gedit /var/lib/boinc-client/client_state.xml. ). It opens up blank but if i find the file and right click and open with gedit the file is normal/full but can't be edit it of course.

Any ideas.
