The dengue project over at World Community Grid is issuing workunits again. It looks like a good place to get workunits for at least a mosquito-bourne disease while waiting for malariacontrol.net to start issuing workunits again.

The last I looked, they also had an African climate project, but that one was inactive.

A company working on a possible dengue virus, and planning to do similar work on some other mosquito-bourne viruses later:

Dengue related work, but mossies that can't fly are probably relevent here also.

There are, of course, animals that rely on eating flying insects for their survival.

But if a mosquito can't fly how does it make little mosquitoes? Is the male mosquito that uncaring that he will mate with a female that can't fly? Won't the need be to release more and more of the males until there are no females left? Seems like lots of things are left out of the article.

It is not clear, however, I suspect a male will mate with whatever is available to mate with. I don't know enough about mossie breeding to say. Presumably the offspring of a "flightless" female will inherit the trait and be similarly impaired.

Whatever, I guess the number of flying mossies would be reduced.

I guess male mosquitoes are not monogamous then huh?
